Trainer Mark Kavanagh says Caulfield specialist Cat’s Pyjamas will go back to Saturday city grade after she led all the way to win second-up from a spell on Wednesday.
Kavanagh said the five-year-old daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus had had bone chips taken out since her last preparation which ended with a third to Dubleanny in the Listed Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in May.
Wearing a tongue tie for the first time, she made it four wins from five appearances at Caulfield.
After running eighth to the in-form Let’s Be Happy over 1200m at Moonee Valley when resuming last month, Cat’s Pyjamas defied a betting drift from $2.30 to start $3.50 favourite in the D’Urban Hcp (1200m).
With apprentice Damian Lane having his first ride for the Kavanagh stable, the mare kicked away in the straight and held on to beat Psychologist by a long neck with Volando 2-1/4 lengths away third.
“She found when she straightened and was out on her legs a little bit the last 50 metres,” Lane said of the mare who has won five of her 11 starts.
“She was an easy ride and I let her cruise under her own steam and she did the rest.”
Meanwhile, Any Dream Will Do gave Geelong-based Andrew Campbell his first metropolitan win since joining forces with his father Don as co-trainer of the lightly-raced Choisir four-year-old 18 months ago.
Ridden by Steven King, Any Dream Will Do ($4.80) got up on the inside of the well-backed $3.40 favourite Big Bear Rock to score by a short head with Fancy Pants ($7.50) a length away third in the Sportingbet Hcp (1200m).
Any Dream Will Do has now won three of his six starts and Campbell believes the gelding will develop into a regular Saturday metropolitan performer next winter.
