Trackwork gallops on Tuesday will determine the make-up of Anthony Cummings’ team for the Hawkesbury Guineas meeting.

The Randwick trainer has three runners – Fontelina, Time To Plunder and Upbeat – entered for Saturday’s $150,000 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m).

Stakes winners Fontelina and Upbeat are proven big race performers while Time To Plunder has also been entered for a 1200m benchmark 85 on the program at the track west of Sydney which is hosting its annual Saturday metropolitan meeting.

Upbeat won the Group Two Autumn Classic (1800m) at Caulfield in February while Fontelina claimed the Listed Phoenix (1350m) in Brisbane a year ago.

“We’ll see how they all gallop in the morning before deciding whether all three go to the Guineas,” Cummings said.

“Time To Plunder is also in the other race.

“All three are probably heading to the Scone meeting and then we’ll sort out the ones going up to the Brisbane carnival.”

There were 23 entries taken on Monday for the Guineas with 73 rater Time to Plunder not certain to make the 16-horse field.

The John O’Shea-trained filly Colorado Claire is the highest-rated horse in the entries on 96 with 2011 Sires’ Produce runner-up Uate next on 91.

Colorado Claire is a last-start winner of the Group Two Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) on March 24. She has since been given a hitout in a barrier trial last week to keep her ticking over.

Cummings entered three runners in the 1200m two-year-old race but has already reduced that by one with Diamond Player to race at Wagga on Thursday.

“Calamba and Diamond Earth will run and Calamba is looking to go to Brisbane,” Cummings said.

A maiden after two starts, Calamba was a close second at Gosford on April 3 while Diamond Earth has won two races restricted to Inglis sales graduates.
