Jockey Craig Williams will have to wait until at least Monday afternoon before he knows if he can ride second favourite Dunaden in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.
The VCAT hearing into an application by Williams for a stay of proceedings arising from a careless riding suspension he incurred last week has been delayed due to the unavailability of one of the tribunal members hearing the case.
Williams rode Dunaden to victory in the Geelong Cup at the French galloper’s only Australian start.
Connections are keen for Williams to retain the ride, but have placed French rider Christophe Lemaire on standby if the stay is not granted.
Lemaire, who rode in Tokyo on Sunday, is en-route to Melbourne and will arrive later on Monday.
