Popular jockey Chris Symons has made a winning return with a double at Sale, the scene of a freak accident which kept him out of racing for more than four months.
Symons broke his foot in late September when he had to take evasive action in the car park to avoid being crushed by a reversing car driven by an apprentice rider on his L plates.
He returned to the saddle with three unplaced rides at Morphettville on Saturday then made the most of his Sale bookings.
Symons rode Fierce Command to win a restricted handicap before steering the Alison Bennett-trained New York to victory in the day’s feature, the $75,000 Sale Quality (1200m).
The Sale meeting also provided a winning return for Ryan Maloney on the Robbie Griffiths-trained General Hap, his first ride back from a broken wrist.
Maloney suffered the injury at Flemington after he fell from the Griffiths-trained Beltrois when the horse suffered fatal injuries a few strides past the post after winning a race at Flemington.
