Glen Boss said he felt “100 per cent” after he partnered Josimar into third place to Costa In The Glen in his comeback ride in the Sportingbet Handicap at Sandown.
Boss had just the one ride at Wednesday’s meeting after Meaisin was scratched from the Le Pine Funerals Hcp (1800m) won by Ruse De Guerre.
The champion jockey, 42, was having his first ride for four months after shattering his left shoulder and suffering torn ligaments and tendons when 2010 Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily collapsed and died in a Flemington jumpout on September 23.
The triple Melbourne Cup-winning jockey has a metal plate and 10 screws inserted in his shoulder.
“The ligaments are still soft, you expect that, but I feel great, 100 per cent,” Boss said after the race.
Boss, who gave Josimar every chance, has taken four rides at Flemington on Saturday and intends to play it low key, just riding on Wednesdays and Saturdays for two weeks.
“Then I’ll go full on. I just want to get the eye in, the timing right,” he said.
Meanwhile, Caulfield trainer Andrew Noblet believes there is a very good future ahead of Notice Received who made it two from two when she stepped up to metropolitan class at Sandown.
A $135,000 purchase at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney, the daughter of O’Reilly made a winning debut in a three-year-old fillies maiden (1200m) at Geelong on January 4.
She followed up with an impressive win in Wednesday’s The Cove Hotel Hcp (1400m).
Ridden by Ben Melham, Notice Received ($6) sat back beyond midfield in the nine-horse field before unleashing a powerful finish to score by two lengths from Tatum ($4 fav) with Godliness ($6) a half-length away third.
“That was very encouraging. Not many horses do that, go from a maiden win to win in town next start which is good for her because she’s a pretty immature horse and she has plenty to do,” Noblet said.
“So it’s very exciting, we’ll see how far she can go this time in but I’m sure she’ll be better next preparation.
Notice Received is out of the Royal Academy mare Classique Royale, a winner of two races at 1200m and a half-sister to multiple stakeswinner Apple Danish who won the Group Three SAJC Swettenham Stud Stakes.
“She’s very professional. She’s been like that since day one. She’s great to handle and has a great attitude which goes a long way,” Noblet said of Notice Received.
“And she’s bred to get 2000 metres-plus.”
