Stephen Baster makes his return to Australian racing on Sunday when he rides the Gai Waterhouse-trained Power Broker in the Hobart Cup.
The meeting featuring the $225,000 Cup will be the jockey’s first appearance since having his riding licence in Singapore withdrawn without explanation by the Singapore Turf Club last month.
Power Broker is one of 16 acceptors for the Hobart Cup (2400m) including fellow interstate entrants Fieldmaster, Hurdy Gurdy Man, Westsouthwest, and Lucky Angel.
Last year’s winner Geegees Blackflash has topweight of 59.5kg and his chances were dealt a blow when he came up with barrier 14 at Tuesday’s draw.
Power Broker has barrier two.
Champion jockey Glen Boss rides the Darren Weir-trained Hurdy Gurdy Man who has drawn gate one while the Patrick Payne-trained Fieldmaster will begin from the outside barrier.
Weir will be looking to build on an impressive Hobart Cup record having won the race three times with True Courser (2006), Offenbach (2008) and Gotta Keep Cool (2009).
Fieldmaster, to be ridden by Michelle Payne, won the Devonport Cup first-up last month and has been placed in his two starts since in Tasmania including a second to Geegees Blackflash over 2200m on Sunday.
Sydney-based stayer Ironstein is a notable omission and will instead go to the $350,000 Mornington Cup next Wednesday.
