Karuta Queen will undergo a thorough veterinary examination before trainer Neville Layt tries to resurrect her autumn campaign.
Layt said he could find no obvious issue with the filly after her below-par run in the Light Fingers Stakes at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
“She seems OK but the vet is coming tomorrow (Tuesday) and he will go right over her,” Layt said.
Karuta Queen missed the start in the Light Fingers before finishing ninth, more than seven lengths from the winner Sea Siren.
Seven days earlier she also came out slowly after standing in the gates for a long time when her neighbour Here De Angels played up and was scratched from the Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield.
“It was a big week for her and in hindsight we should have missed the race and looked for another one,” Layt said.
“Everything has been upside down with her since they called off Warwick Farm a few weeks ago.”
Providing she is given a clean bill of health on Tuesday, Layt said there remained a strong chance of Karuta Queen competing during the main part of the Sydney autumn carnival.
“If she checks out as I expect, I’ll press on but you won’t see her for another month at the earliest,” Layt said.
