The Luca Cumani trained Manighar has been backed into outright fourth favourite at $12 for the Melbourne Cup after Sportingbet Australia took some massive bets on the overseas raider.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters had been keen to back the gelding since his impressive fifth in the Caulfield Cup.
“He has shortened from $15 to $12 in recent days following a number of good bets including one of $10,000 at the $15,†Sullivan said.
“He has been steady at $12 now for a couple of days and punters just keep backing him.
“He is a bad result for us as we took some good bets on him at $51 before he even landed in Australia including one of $50,000 to $1000 each way.â€
Shocking is now an outright $4.50 favourite for the Cup ahead of Cox Plate winner So You Think after shortening up from $5.00 in the past twenty four hours.
“Punters have clearly settled on Shocking and So You Think as the horses to beat which is understandable given their outstanding form heading into the Cup,†Sullivan said.
“We have seen a good move for Shocking today without any one huge bet and he has shortened from $5.00 to $4.50 while So You Think has been $4.20 out to $5.00.
“Shocking is almost certain to run as a ruling favourite for a second successive Cup win on Tuesday now.â€
