While Blue Diamond winner Sepoy has shortened to a raging $2.70 favourite for the Golden Slipper, there has been big money for some unraced horses at Sportingbet Australia.
Sepoy was posted as a $3.60 favourite for the Slipper on Saturday night but Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters stepped in instantly.
“The first bet we took was $10,000 at $3.60 just hours after the Blue Diamond and more money came at $3.20, $3.00 and $2.90,†Sullivan said.
“I can’t remember a horse being this short over a month away from the Slipper and I am very keen to keep laying him at these odds.
“I think he has found his price.â€
Sullivan said there had been big money for a couple of Victorians who didn’t feature in the Blue Diamond with the Lee Freedman trained Retsina and the John McArdle trained Kid Kobe both well backed for the Slipper.
“Retsina has been backed from $81 to $61 following a string of good sized bets so he has obviously shown plenty to someone,†Sullivan said
“Kid Kobe has shortened from $301 to $101 with one punter backing him to win over $100,000.
“He has won two trials in nice style and punters must think he has an enormous amount of potential to be backing him for the Slipper.â€
