The feature race in Sydney today is the Group 2 Apollo Stakes which will see some of the Group 1 Autumn Carnival contenders return to the track including the Melbourne Cup fourth placed finisher Kelinni and last years Caulfield Cup favourite Glencadam Gold. View our runner by runner preview of the race.

1. Shoot Out Preview:

Chris Waller trained Shoot Out will go into Saturday’s Apollo Stakes as the $4.80 second favourite in betting and deservingly so being perhaps the most performed horse in the race. Shoot Out’s first up record is very good as well with three wins from six runs and enjoys the distance having been placed five times from seven starts at the distance. Big player.

Trainer: C J Walle

Jockey: J Bowman

Breeding: High Chaparral x Pentamerous

Prize money earned: $2963950

Form at 1400m: 7:2,2,1

Apollo Stakes Odds: $4.80

Apollo Stakes barrier: 7

Weight to be carried: 59kg

Special Offer: $500 FREE BET ON SHOOT OUT – Luxbet (Tabcorp owned)

2. Danleigh  Preview:

Danleigh has been the best backed roughie in Saturday’s Apollo Stakes where we have seen his odds drop from $12 into his current quote of $8 and now solid around that mark. Danleigh has one start this preparation in the Expressway Stakes where he finished a decent fifth and should take improvement from that run. Each way chance.

Trainer: C J Waller

Jockey: J A Cassidy

Breeding: Mujahid x Graceful Lily

Prize money earned: $2452295

Form at 1400m: 13:4,1,3

Apollo Stakes Odds: $8

Apollo Stakes barrier: 3

Weight to be carried: 59kg

3. Albert The Fat Preview:

Albert The Fat won the 2011 Emirates Stakes but has yet to fire since, his first up run in the Expressway Stakes was disappointing which reflects his odds of $17 and i would need to see him return close to his best before putting him into my selections.

Trainer: C J Waller

Jockey: B Avdulla

Breeding: Magic Albert x Alemar

Prize money earned: $1304025

Form at 1400m: 7:1,1,0

Apollo Stakes Odds: $17

Apollo Stakes barrier: 8

Weight to be carried: 59kg

Special Offer: $250 FREE BET ON ALBERT THE FAT – IASbet (Recommended Bookmaker)

4. Glencadam Gold Preview:

Glencadam Gold will jump as favourite for Saturday’s Apollo Stakes in which he is currently a $3.50 chance after opening at $3. His last preparation started off impeccably but his last two runs where below par. If he has returned well he should be very hard to beat.

Trainer: Ms G Waterhouse

Jockey: Tommy Berry

Breeding: Refuse To Bend x Sandrella

Prize money earned: $599028

Form at 1400m: Untried at this distance

Apollo Stakes Odds: $3.30

Apollo Stakes barrier: 6

Weight to be carried: 59kg

5. Laser Hawk Preview:

Laser Hawk is a very talented runner and his first up record is perfect. He will be having his first start this campaign after winning the Rosehill Guineas last preparation. Coming of a long spell which is a worry but should be fit first up like many of Gai Waterhouses horses are.

Trainer: Ms G Waterhouse

Jockey: N Rawiller

Breeding: Artie Schiller x High Heels

Prize money earned: $569100

Form at 1400m: 1:1,0,0

Apollo Stakes Odds: $8

Apollo Stakes barrier: 11

Weight to be carried: 59kg

Special Offer: $500 FREE BET ON LASER HAWK – Luxbet (Tabcorp owned)

6. Kelinni Preview:

Kelinni was a bit of a surprise horse over Spring which was highlighted with a fourth placed finish in the Melbourne Cup after an impressive win in the Lexus Stakes. His first up record isn’t bad and he would have improved from his last campaign. Keep him safe at each way odds.

Trainer: C J Waller

Jockey: C W Brown

Breeding: Refuse To Bend x Orinoco

Prize money earned: $764502

Form at 1400m: 2:1,1,0

Apollo Stakes Odds: $17

Apollo Stakes barrier: 2

Weight to be carried: 59kg

7. Gatewood Preview:

Gatewood will go into the Apollo Stakes as a $21 shot. Gatewood is untried over the distance but has shown plenty of quality since coming to Australia for the Spring carnival last year with the owners deciding to keep him here. I think the distance will be too short for him but will improve for the run.

Trainer: C J Waller

Jockey: J R Collett

Breeding: Galileo x Felicity

Prize money earned: $372569

Form at 1400m: Untried at this distance

Apollo Stakes Odds: $21

Apollo Stakes barrier: 5

Weight to be carried: 59kg

Special Offer: $500 FREE BET ON GATEWOOD – Luxbet (Tabcorp owned)

8. Monton Preview:

Has had three starts this preparation and his last two races wheren’t close to what he showed first up. If he can return to his best then he is right in this but i think that may have past for this 6YO. An each way chance at best.

Trainer: R J Quinton

Jockey: S Clipperton

Breeding: Catbird x Dynamic Flyer

Prize money earned: $527710

Form at 1400m: 4:2,0,0

Apollo Stakes Odds: $21

Apollo Stakes barrier: 4

Weight to be carried: 59kg

9. Centennial Park Preview:

Ran a gallant third in the Expressway Stakes first up behind Happy Galaxy and goes into Saturday’s Apollo Stakes with a live chance. Opened at $11 but has drifted out to $13 in betting which is a concern and if there is a bit of rain around Sydney is worth an each way bet.

Trainer: David Payne

Jockey: G Schofield

Breeding: Thorn Park x Trephina

Prize money earned: $876600

Form at 1400m: 17:3,0,2

Apollo Stakes Odds: $13

Apollo Stakes barrier: 10

Weight to be carried: 59kg

Special Offer: $500 FREE BET ON ORTENSIA – Luxbet (Tabcorp owned)

10. Willy Jimmy Preview:

Willy Jimmy is one of the $101 rank outsiders in the Apollo Stakes and it is very hard seeing him cause an upset in a very strong field. Prefer to leave him out.

Trainer: G H Walter

Jockey: Nathan Berry

Breeding: Dehere x Hula Wonder

Prize money earned: $311430

Form at 1400m: 4:2,0,0

Apollo Stakes Odds: $101

Apollo Stakes barrier: 1

Weight to be carried: 59kg

11. Alma’s Fury Preview:

Alma’s Fury won a listed race in Brisbane last start but will go into the Apollo Stakes as an $81 chance. Looks well outclassed in this race and i cant see him figuring in the finish.

Trainer: Paul Murray

Jockey: B Shinn

Breeding: Refuse To Bend x Dance Attendance

Prize money earned: $367005

Form at 1400m: 7:1,0,2

Apollo Stakes Odds: $81

Apollo Stakes barrier: 12

Weight to be carried: 59kg

Special Offer: $500 FREE BET ON ALMA’S FURY – Luxbet (Tabcorp owned)

12. Doctor Doom Preview:

Will jump in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes as a $101 chance and is unlikely to figure in the race of this quality. Watch out for him in easier company next time out.

Trainer: G H Walter

Jockey: R M Quinn

Breeding: Domesday x Orcym

Prize money earned: $337790

Form at 1400m: 3:1,0,0

Apollo Stakes Odds: $101

Apollo Stakes barrier: 9

Weight to be carried: 59kg

13.Tougher Than Ever Preview:

Tougher Than Ever will carry just 55.5kg against the older horses in Saturday’s Group 2 Apollo Stakes and punters feel this is an advantage for the 3YO colt who ran fourth in the Expressway Stakes last start which many of the runners in this race are coming out of. Tougher Than Ever opened at $5 in betting but has eased slightly to $5.50 and could possibly be outclassed in this field despite the weight advantage.

Trainer: C J Waller

Jockey:

Breeding: General Nediym x Rathlin Island

Prize money earned: $261463

Form at 1400m: 3:1,0,1

Apollo Stakes Odds: $5.50

Apollo Stakes barrier: 13

Weight to be carried: 55.5kg

Special Offer: $250 FREE BET ON TOUGHER THAN EVER – Sportsbet (Recommended Bookmaker)
