Adam Page gives us his brief preview for Saturday’s Von Doussa Steeplechase at Oakbank racecourse, view his full race preview and selections.
The second home of jumps racing in Australia (behind Warnambool) is Oakbank and their prestiguous Easter Carnival kicks off with the feature event on Saturday being the Von Doussa Steeplechase.
Gee it’s an open race. Last Shogun fell at Hamilton last Sunday after leading by eight lengths. The key to this horse is let him roll along in front and make the others chase. He’ll be leading this race and the firmer track is what he needs. At his best he is one of the better jumpers in Australia but at times, like last start, he doesn’t put it all together. I’m prepared to trust him and hope that he has his game face on Saturday.
Rabbuka was a very handy flat horse with Gai Waterhouse until he wasn’t up to Gai’s standard so he is making a career now as a jumper and he looks pretty good. He has two jump starts, for a win and a second. He was very good behind Tanby at Morphettville on Saturday and he’ll be hard to beat here. Aaron Lynch more than likely had the pick of the Eric Musgrove horses and he has gone with this one. That is a good lead for Rabbuka fans.
Vindicating did the job well enough at Sandown when scoring a win over Stop The Traffic, who won last Sunday at Hamilton. He trialled really nicely at Casterton on Monday and looks primed for a big run in this race and on Monday.
Stop The Traffic is a grinder and he had everything go his way when he won. He was always around the mark and expect much the same here.
Last Shogun on top, to beat Rabbuka, Vindicating and for fourth put in Stop The Traffic.
