Adam Page gives us his brief overview of Saturday’s South Pacific Classic at Randwick racecourse on Doncaster Mile day.
Unbeaten galloper Lightinthenite is the $3.20 favourtie after two impressive wins. Mac Chois is at $5, Sea Lord at $6, Magic Millions winner Torios Quest at $7, then Big Storm and Goldstone at $9.50.
Very tough race to find a winner because there are about six or seven winning hopes. I’ve gone with Chasse here. Got home nicely at Flemington behind Panipique, then struggled home in the wet behind Lightinthenite last start when well supported. He does have form on wet ground but he did find it hard last start but I’ll put that down to racing the Sydney way for the first time and the second up syndrome. Wet or dry I think he is the value runner. $18 for the win and $4.77 for the place is crazy odds. Happy to have him each-way.
Lightinthenite has been awesome in his short career, winning two from two with the latest of those being a strong effort to beat Hard Liquor, who came out and won impressively at Canterbury on Wdnesday. He has plenty of upside and although he steps up again in class, he’ll acquit himself well.
Big Storm is a massive threat. Was the real eye-catcher in the Eskimo Prince when resuming after settling near the back and winding up hard over the final 150m. He has had five weeks between runs and although that may be a query, he looked superb in a recent barrier trial and I’m very keen on the $2.88 for the place.
Torio’s Quest is the Magic Millions winner, but he was somewhat disappointing in the Darby Munro behind Sea Lord. No doubt the 1400m is what he needs and some give in the ground is right up his alley. If he brought his A-game, he just about wins.
Chasse at value on top, to beat Lightinthenite, Big Storm and Torio’s Quest.
