Adam Page gives us his brief overview of Saturday’s Fernhill Handicap at Randwick racecourse on Doncaster Mile day.
Early markets have boom youngster Salade as the $2.30 favourite ahead of Satirical Boy at $4.60, then Cocky Raider at $5 and Exceed And Exalt at $8. The others are at double figures.
I like Muhaajir at value here. He has got better with each run and didn’t disgrace himself last start behind Do You Think at Rosehill after settling well back. Munce retains the ride and from the barrier expect him to ease back and charge home at the end. The 1600m looks perfect for him and I think $17 is a huge price. Each-way all day for mine.
Cocky Raider ran a superb race first up in the same race mentioned above when he was near last before unwinding a strong finish to finish second. Gelding him has done the trick and the step up in journey looks beneficial to say the very least. Ace rider Craig Williams jumps on board here and he has had a quiet Autumn Carnival so far. Expect that to change soon.
Salade oozes class and showed that with a stunning debut win in the Pago Pago before running a solid eigth in the Slipper behind Sepoy. Back on his home track, out to the mile and drops big time in class. 58.5kg is a worry and looks to be unders. He should still be in the finish but $2.30 is way too short.
Satrical Boy was game behind Do You Think after box-seating. He is on his home track here and he looks as if the journey will suit him. The Nash/Gai combo should be respected at anytime but even more so at Randwick during a carnival. He has the rails and will get the gun run. He’ll be hard to run down.
Muhaajir on top, to beat Cocky Raider, Salade for third and Satirical Boy for fourth.
