Adam Page gives us his brief preview for Saturday’s Group 1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick racecourse, view his full race preview and selections.
Sires Produce winner Helmet is the $3.20 favourite, ahead of Uate at $5.50, then Salade at $7 and Pane In The Glass at $9.
The blinkers come off and the winkers are on for Uate. That’ll suit him perfectly because it’ll allow him to relax and get him in the zone. Probably should have won the Sires Produce but he pulled hard in the lead and that took the final zip out of him. He’ll be much better with that run under his belt, drawn well, Nash sticks and again looks like he’ll sit on the speed and prove very hard to run down.
Helmet produced a tradesmen like win over Uate after sitting outside the Newcastle horse and finishing off best, not winning by a big space but did it well enough. Wide barrier probably won’t be a concern because McEvoy will look to press forward and sit either on the speed or outside it. The Snowden juveniles have dominated this season and there is no reason to suggest they can’t win this.
Muhaajir will win a race soon. I have backed him at each start and he has been solid. Forget he went around last Saturday when Munce had the horse four wide throughout and eventually he had to stop. With a softer run and a drag into the race, he can fill a place at huge odds. $14.33 to be precise.
Pane In The Glass was most unlucky in the Sires Produce. She sat back in a slowly run race and was forced very wide so to finish within a length of Helmet was an outstanding effort. The mile will suit her down to the ground and if more speed is injected in the race, I want to be on this filly.
Uate to get revenge, with Helmet getting second, then Muhaajir and Pane In The Glass.
