Rosehill will host a fab nine race card this Saturday with some of the best business stepping out in some high quality events, namely the Run To The Rose (1200m) and the Theo Marks Stakes (1300m). The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:10) Schweppes Handicap (76) 1500m
See no reason why 5 Mariquita (Bet Now: $4.20) can’t win again. The tempo was the thing against her when racing at this track/distance but once she was close enough on the turn, with her turn of foot, she was always going to be hard to beat and that was the case as she dashed right away. Her turn of foot will come to the fore again.
2 Karavali (Bet Now: $2.90) rises a bit in grade but gee there was a lot to like about her first up win on the Beaumont track at Newcastle. It wasn’t a day where making ground was easy but for a mare who was first up, she finished off with real purpose late to nab the in form mare Canberra. Got some really form from last prep in town which reads well for this.
4 Cambage (Bet Now: $5.50) shouldn’t be underestimated here. Scott Singleton trained mare who resumed on her home track at Hawkesbury after an Oaks prep and gee she was impressive, spacing her rivals and running time despite being relatively fresh off just one trial. Ran second in a strong form race second up last prep but she looks a much better horse now.
Race 2. (12:45) TAB Highway Handicap (Class 3) 1200m
1 Suncraze (Bet Now: $2.30) looks the obvious. Very talented galloper who has been given a little freshen up since bolting in over 1400m in a Randwick Highway. To my eye, he looks forward enough to run well and indeed win here off the back of a sharp Tamworth trial win last week where he led all the way and bolted up, running time and doing it comfortably.
Pleased to see 3 Northern Knight (Bet Now: $4.40) in a Highway. He is a very progressive type for Brett Bellamy who is three for three to kick off his career. Really liked his win the other day at Coffs Harbour where he had to be hunted up a touch to hold the box seat, which took some energy, but he got into the clear and he just bolted in. Very keen to see how he measures up.
Long Shot: 2 Ruthless Agent (Bet Now: $11.00) is a talented four year old that is first up here for the Kurt Goldman yard. He hasn’t raced since early July over 1400m at Warwick Farm when finishing down the track behind Arbeitsam, and how good does that form read now. No trials, but flies fresh and does have a touch of class/quality about him.
Race 3. (13:20) Rydges Parramatta Handicap (80) 1800m
1 Alward (Bet Now: $1.95) is a very progressive type for the Waller camp who scored a dominant win at Flemington two back before racing over the 2000m here where he looked as if he was always going to win but he took his time getting there, so I think back to 1800m looks ideal and he’s clearly on top despite the weight rise.
11 Imanui (Bet Now: $7.00) is a frustrating type for the Ron Quinton yard but maybe the step up to 1800m will bring out the best. He ran over 1500m here last time out and his racing pattern/bias didn’t help him at all when working home late to run fourth to Special Missile, who franked the form by winning again. If he can sit closer in the run here, gee he’ll take some beating, and his trial behind Dixie Blossoms last week was very good.
3 Vaucluse Bay (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Chris Waller trained galloper who had clear excuses two back when not pulling up 100% post race and there were clear excuses again a fortnight back. Not sure he would have beaten stablemate Alward but he would have gone close. Just got into a horrible spot from the home turn onwards. He’s right in this.
Race 4. (14:00) Kari Stan Fox Stakes 1500m
I’m going to take the chance with 1 The Mission (Bet Now: $8.50). He’s the fresh blood with no Spring form but he is the Group l winner at set weights, so in that regard, he is so well placed. Gave them a galloping lesson in his recent trial win over 1200m at Newcastle, beating home the classy animal Sense Of Occasion. I think he either leads or sits outside the leader, and for mine, he looks ready.
I took a set against 3 Addictive Nature (Bet Now: $2.25) in the Ming Dynasty but credit to him, he fought on superbly on speed, leading all the way to win despite having no peace in front. I think him being a Group l horse is over the top, and I have doubts about him at 1500m despite the breeding, but he looks a top chance here.
5 Ace High (Bet Now: $26.00) is a handy three year old for David Payne who resumed with a smart maiden win at Kembla before going to the Up And Coming where I thought he was far from disgraced behind Dracarys in a race which carried good depth. Up to 1500m on the home track suits and with a suck run off the pace, he could sneak a place for sure.
Race 5. (14:35) Theo Marks Stakes 1300m
6 Egg Tart…(Bet Now: $3.10) my girl. She’s back. Can she win this? Of course she can. I love horses who go out for a spell on a high and there isn’t much higher feeling that back-to-back Group l wins. I’ve put a lot of faith in her, thinking she is the heir apparent to Winx as the best in Australia and the confidence hasn’t been dented after two excellent trials.
You just have to include 4 Dixie Blossoms (Bet Now: $7.00) don’t you. One of the best mares in Sydney that resumes for Ron Quinton after an overall frustrating Autumn prep. She did bolt up in the Guy Walter but overall, she really just had no luck in the major races. Looks to have come back in outstanding order based on her trial win recently. Very happy to include her.
I highly doubt he wins, but I think for exotic value, include 5 Mighty Lucky (Bet Now: $51.00). Yes, he’s best form will come later in the prep, but trained Fred Cowell did say a couple of weeks back this horse is flying and has come back in great order, and I like what he did in a recent barrier trial, and keeping in mind fresh last prep he made ground on a leaders track behind Redzel.
Race 6. (15:10) Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes 1200m
8 Ravi (Bet Now: $10.00) is a talented mare that is first up for the Snowden camp. It really was an Autumn to forget for the mare in three runs. She just had no luck at all each time, especially in the Sangster where she clocked some of the fastest late splits of the meeting despite not being fully extended. Trials leading in have been great and she is a very good first up performer.
You can’t knock winners and that is exactly what 7 Bonny O’Reilly (Bet Now: $3.70) is. She has won eight of 12, the latest coming first up a fortnight back at this track/distance when given a beaut ride by Tim Clark, who cuddled her off the tempo with the big weight before taking the inside split, sprinting hard and holding on. Back to her own sex with weight relief and the fitness, she should take some holding out.
4 Danish Twist (Bet Now: $18.00)is first up for Kris Lees here. This high class mare kicks off her Myer Classic campaign off the back of one trial, which looked pretty good at Gosford. She has residual fitness from the Brisbane Winter and while she doesn’t really fire fresh, she does have class/quality on her side.
Race 7. (15:50) The Run To The Rose 1200m
I think 4 Pariah (Bet Now: $3.80) is a massive threat here. I think he is the dominant 3YO right now but I will say he was a bit flattered I thought first up in the San Domenico when winning. Whilst he had improvement left, he was forward in condition compared to others hence why he was heavily backed. Has to step it up a notch or two but I am confident he can.
Big watch on 10 Kementari (Bet Now: $4.20). He’s the one that is the most brilliant out of this lot and I think he can stamp himself as the premier 3YO Sydney has to offer. He hasn’t raced since late May when giving them an absolute galloping lesson at Randwick, winning by a space and showing us that he is top shelf. Trials have been the great, the noise out of the stable is all positive…yep he goes in.
7 Chauffeur (Bet Now: $10.00) is simply the wrong price. He looked much more big in condition compared to Pariah when they paraded for the San Domenico, so the fact that this colt got within a length of Pariah was outstanding. He has the more upside yet he is nearly three times the price of Pariah. Crazy.
Race 8. (16:30) Fugen Handicap (90) 1200m
I think 13 Zumbelina (Bet Now: $6.00) is one of the best bets on the card. Quality mare for Chris Waller that resumes here after a very frustrating Autumn prep where nothing went her way in three outings, all of which were in much stronger races than this. Her trials have been great, looks ready to go fresh, gate one, draws to stalk the speed…very keen.
4 Tango Rain (Bet Now: $2.40) is a progressive type for Gerald Ryan who was given a good aggressive ride by Avdulla over the 1100m here a fortnight back. Took the four year old entire to the front and dominated proceedings from there despite getting a little tired late. Should get every chance from the draw and rates highly.
8 Denpurr (Bet Now: $7.00) looked to trial up really well for Team Snowden prior to resuming over the 1100m here a few weeks back where she looked a bit unlucky not to finish closer, getting held up at various stages in the straight when appearing to have a bit to offer behind Badajoz. Happy to give her another look here.
Race 9. (17:10) Tab.com.au Handicap (84) 1400m
3 Interlocuter (Bet Now: $4.80) is an above average five year old first up for Godolphin and James Cummings and I think he is one of the more interesting runners on the card. Created a very good impression in his first Australian prep, winning two of three, with the second win via a disqualification. Loved his trials and he looks ready to go.
7 Ebenos (Bet Now: $6.50) looks to be flying this preparation but he just can’t get the breaks to go his way. Should have won two back at Canterbury when a stiff second to Golden Shoes before going to the Randwick 1400m where the slow tempo was clearly against when a fast finishing fourth to Comin’ Through. If everything goes his way, he goes awfully close.
16 Galaxy Warrior (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Gayna Williams trained galloper that resumes here. He was last seen in the Country Championship series where he ran second in the Wellington heat before running an absolute ripper in the Final after doing a power of work. Been given two solid trials to prepare for his return and very interesting he is fresh at 1400m considering fresh last time he was 1100m first up.
