Race 1. (12:10) Inglis Ready2race Sale 10 Oct 1500m
Landed with 1 Apulia (Bet Now: $SP.00) in the opener. Team Hayes trained three year old that showed really good promise as a juvenile before being spelled. He resumed in a Cranbourne maiden where the market said he was a good thing and he duly saluted, sitting on speed throughout being clicked up and drawing clear late for a dominant win. Lands near the front again and will take running down.
7 Autumn Angel (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a very nice filly for Moody/Coleman and should take beating against these. Market took a set against her when resuming at the midweeks at Sandown but it mattered not to her as she gave them a start and a beating in an impressive display, stamping herself as a potential Oaks type. Confident she measures up.
3 Fistsoffury (Bet Now: $SP.00) hasn’t been too bad in two runs back from a spell for Team Hawkes. Did a good job fresh at the midweeks at Sandown behind a smart one, Rheinberg. He then went to this track/distance and perhaps had a touch of the second up syndrome but that said, he was only beaten 2.7L by Ambassadorial. Third up, so should be hard fit and his best is good enough.
Race 2. (12:40) Pfd Food Services (Bm70) 1600m
3 Blazerro (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to lump the weight but there is a reason for that. He is the class of the field being a 75 rater with solid midweek form. He ran a couple of weeks back at Sandown when wide no cover for the trip but despite that, he loomed and looked the winner, only to be bloused late by Terrestar. He has run well at Saturday metro level previously in Melbourne and strikes a winnable race here.
11 The Creator (Bet Now: $SP.00) is working up to a win. Former Kiwi that has slowly started to find his feet in Australia, the latest run coming at Sandown when attempting to lead throughout and giving a strong kick but couldn’t quite finish it off, run down late. With that racing pattern, he’s extremely well suited here.
4 Polanco (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. He ran in the Hennessy Lad race from two weeks back here. He was specked at odds but didn’t really fire in the run, failing to come on in a plain effort behind the Moody/Coleman horse. Back to 70 grade, his best is clearly good enough to win. Just want to see him do it.
Race 3. (13:15) Ladbrokes Challenger (Bm70) 2040m
Landed with 13 Rockeby Road (Bet Now: $SP.00) for Andrew Noblet in a very open race. He has done a super job this time in for the stable, the latest run coming over 2100m at Sandown when near the speed throughout and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to Affordable. Slightly back in trip, hard fit and in form, he appeals.
4 Magnaspin (Bet Now: $SP.00) only has to hold his form to be around the mark. He ran at this track/distance a fortnight back where he led and copped serious heat on speed. He was entitled to drop right away but he kept on and was very good in defeat behind Duke Of Hastings. If there is petrol left in the tank, he’ll be extremely hard to run down.
1 Denero (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been pretty solid in two runs off a mini freshen up, the latest coming at the mile here two weeks back where he got a fair way out of his ground but was quite good late in the piece Hennessy Lad, beaten just under two lengths. He has an awful racing pattern, but if he can somehow can get a drag into the race, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 4. (13:50) Drummond Golf Hcp 1200m
5 Recommendation (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the straight bat option. Four weeks between runs since resuming at this track/distance where he should have won but had little luck on the turn when wanting to build the revs. He eventually got out and savaged the line late to just miss out on picking up Maximillius. Right down in the weights after the claim and off a good speed, he’ll be hard to hold out.
2 Savannah Cloud… (Bet Now: $SP.00) gee he is a genuine animal for Phillip Stokes. There are certainly better horses racing this meeting but you’d struggle to find one as honest as him. Resumed with a strong win at Caulfield three weeks back in the Regal Roller, saving ground late nearer the inside and in a driving go, was too good. Better set up this time around, he only runs well.
3 Stageman (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Former WA sprinter that now finds himself with John Leek Jr. He resumes, having not raced since The Gold Rush when back near last in the run and failed to make up any real headway. Two trials under the belt to get ready but with his best, he is certainly good enough.
Race 5. (14:25) Mckenzie Stks 1200m
3 Brave Mead (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very nice horse for Maher/Eustace that resumes. I find him a very interesting because I do think he has the potential to be a Group l talent but he failed in the Sires on wet ground and was spelled soon after. His trial work…the first trial was good but the second trial, he looked like a donkey, so they brought him back to Melbourne and his Cranbourne jumpout was sparkling. Think he’s ready to go.
4 Steparty (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very smart animal for Paul Preusker and he can make a big statement with eyes towards better races with a win here. 3/3 as a 2YO, and each time he looked like a jet. He could be the 2023 version of Giga Kick from last year where he took all before him and stamped himself a star. Trial work has been super and he’ll be strong at the end.
1 Amur (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a real liking for The Valley and that is his saving grace against some better types. He resumed two weeks back at this track/distance where he was a bit one paced when initially asked for the effort but he kept finding the line in a solid effort behind Scentify. Not sure he is good enough to win but he can pinch a first four spot.
Race 6. (15:00) Atlantic Jewel Stakes 1200m
I think 7 Right To Party (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a bet here. Team Freedman trained filly that resumed two weeks ago here where she got dragged back to near last from the wide gate and was never a threat, but I really liked the way she found the line late in the piece behind Inhibitions. If she can use the gate and settle much closer, she’ll be strong at the end.
5 Inhibitions (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for James Cummings and off a win, she can certainly go on with it. Market wanted her when she raced a fortnight back at this track/distance where she got a dream run in transit under Melham before angling clear and surged hard late for a strong win. That was her first run in several weeks so with room for improvement, she appeals.
8 Oz Empress (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the right racing pattern to give herself every chance. She resumed two weeks back at this track/distance where she attempted to lead throughout and despite being a big price, she looked the winner for the most part, only to be nabbed near the peg by Inhibitions. Room for improvement, good racing style, she’ll give plenty of cheek.
Race 7. (15:35) Strathmore Bendigo Bank-Bm100 2040m
7 Berkeley Square (Bet Now: $SP.00) won the Vase at this track/distance last year and looks spot on for the 2040m after two runs back from the layoff. Latest run was three weeks ago at Caulfield when a closing third to Jimmy The Bear. Third up from a spell, so should be hard fit and getting to an ideal trip, he clearly appeals as a key winning chance.
14 Full Of Sincerity (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks like he will be in for a good prep. He resumed three weeks ago at Caulfield over the mile where he got into a decent spot from the inside gate but with the main runners coming wide, he was nearer the inside and probably not in the best spot behind Jimmy The Bear. Fitter, up in trip, good upside, he rates highly.
2 Camorra (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be suited up to 2040m. He is three weeks between runs since resuming over the mile at Caulfield where he got back to near last in the run and did make up ground without threatening behind Jimmy The Bear. Good improvement to come and we know that his overseas form is top shelf and would go close to winning if he brought that here
Race 8. (16:15) Mcewen Stakes 1000m
If 1 Giga Kick (Bet Now: $SP.00) is going to get beat this prep, it is here. But, he’s the best sprinter in the world IMO and with class, he is the one for me. He is a top class animal that resumes after a fabulous 3YO season, highlighted by his Everest triumph. Two jumpouts under the belt to get ready, if he handles The Valley, I think he’ll be too good.
5 Imperatriz (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a high quality mare for Mark Walker that resumes. This mare ended last prep on a high, giving them a spanking over 1200m here in the William Reid. Could easily measure up in The Everest but connections are focused on Melbourne. Trial work in NZ has been strong and while 1000m is short of her best, she does have class.
4 Acromantula (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the hard fit horse with the racing style to pinch this race. Sustained speed came to the fore in the Carlyon a fortnight back, with Williams sending the WA speedster to the front and once that eventuated, it was race over and he gapped them. Clearly a harder assignment, but the way he race, he’s going to give cheek.
Race 9. (16:50) Feehan Stakes 1600m
I’m having a throw at the stumps with 12 Virtuous Circle (Bet Now: $SP.00). He is first up for Liam Howley with the Cups being his main aim. He ended last prep on a high with an incredible effort in the Australian Derby when a closing second against the bias to Major Beel, who ran super last Saturday. Bendigo jumpout was quiet but he maps to do no work and an interesting booking of Mark Zahra…does that signal intent?
11 Globe… (Bet Now: $SP.00) just how good is he? He looks, potentially, top shelf, but this is going to be some sort of test for him given he is first up in what is likely going to be a brutally run mile. He resumes for Price/Kent after really coming of age in the Autumn/Winter. Yes, was well placed, but he was still very impressive. Market will be fascinating to see what it does.
13 Attrition (Bet Now: $SP.00) should prove hard to beat. Mitch Freedman trained four year old that resumed three weeks back in the PB Lawrence when wide no cover for the trip and while he was entitled to knock right up, he kept chipping away and was pretty good in defeat. If that run hasn’t busted him, he’ll take beating against this lot.
Race 10. (17:25) Powerflo Solutions (Bm90) 1600m
1 Edison (Bet Now: $SP.00) will be dangerous at a price if this track is playing up/in. He ran three weeks back in the PB Lawrence where he just went too hard in the run, he couldn’t lead and was a beaten horse a long way out behind Mr Brightside. Think he’ll find the top here and if this track is suiting leaders, he comes right into play.
10 Hennessy Lad (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Moody/Coleman trained gelding that has returned in super order. Market took a set against him late when racing a fortnight back at this track/distance but he got into a beaut spot under Nolen and no doubt in my mind, the ride won the race. Tricky gate to overcome but with good upside, appeals.
7 She’s Fit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. WA mare that resumed three weeks back over the mile at Belmont where she looked hard to beat on paper but to my eye, she was a bit on the plain side behind Ginger Baker. Tick over trial last week was solid enough, she gets D Lane, maps ideally and her best is clearly good enough.
