Race 1. (12:38) Canadian Club Hcp (C1) 1800m
10 Plaimont (Bet Now: $5.00) is a filly that has promise. Kris Lees trains, who comes here off the back of a maiden win at Grafton where she ate up 1720m and made a mess of them in an impressive display. Racing like 1800m will be ideal, has more upside than most, leading camp…she’s the one, clearly.
7 Divazino (Bet Now: $7.00) has been strong in a couple of runs for Marcus Wilson. Spanked them to break the maiden tag at Murwillumbah two back before going to Doomben last week when racing over 2040m and was good in defeat from near the speed when third to Kureder. Back to this level, he rates highly.
1 Blue Ray (Bet Now: $6.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran in the He’s For The Girls race from two weeks back at Doomben. He was dragged back from the wide gate and he caught the eye I thought with the way he finished his race off. Racing like he will appreciate a rise in trip and with upside, he appeals.
Race 2. (13:13) Martin Collins Australia Hcp (C6) 1700m
4 Wairere Falls (Bet Now: $6.50) is sneaky flying for Chris Waller. Just a run first up at Eagle Farm but in two subsequent runs at Doomben, he has been eye catching, the latest run being a fortnight back when back near last and held up but was good late between runners behind Tuhinga. If the breaks go his way, he can take this out.
5 Warp Speed (Bet Now: $9.50) has good upside to come and is suited up in trip. He ran at Eagle Farm three weeks back over the mile. He had the suck run behind the speed and cut back inside, looming, but he had to settle for third to Ostermeir. Like him up in trip and third up from a spell, he should be hard fit.
6 Butch N Bugs (Bet Now: $17.00) is one I can entertain for wider exotics. He is three weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Eagle Farm. He got a fair way out of his ground and did make up headway but was never really a winning threat behind Ostermeir. If he can settle closer in the run, I think he’s dangerous at odds.
Race 3. (13:48) Archer Park Racing Blue & White Stars (Bm78) 1800m
4 Heleva Deel (Bet Now: $5.00) is bursting to win and I think she gets her chance here for Mark Currie. She ran two weeks ago over the mile at Doomben where she got back and wide, with the horse being wayward so Fenlon had to switch to the right hand for the whip and the mare kept finding the line in a strong effort. Hard fit and up to 1800m, she’s going to take holding out.
2 Tony Be (Bet Now: $17.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Chris Waller and is a key threat. He ran last Wednesday at Doomben over the mile where he got back to near last in the run and made up solid headway late without threatening behind Goldeel, beaten a few lengths in a good effort. Fitter and up to 1800m, he rates highly.
9 Cosmic Gossip (Bet Now: $35.00) is a knockout hope. She bounced back to winning form last week at Ipswich, giving them a start and a beating when letting down with purpose to win and win well. She was knocking on the door to win and now that she has, I think she’ll take beating against these at a likely decent price.
Race 4. (14:23) Gold Coast Stakes 1800m
9 Kiss Sum (Bet Now: $12.00) hasn’t won in a long time but I think he’s sneaky going well and up in trip, down in depth, I think he can take this out. He ran over 1400m at Randwick three weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind Thunderlips. Up in trip and the depth is nowhere near as strong. One of the hardest to beat.
1 Daytona Bay (Bet Now: $2.80) has won at 1800m previously and is in form. He was a beaten favourite at Doomben a fortnight back but far from disgraced because he looked like he was floundering for a bit but he ran through the pain barrier and kept on to run second to surprise winner Sea Raider. Think on a firmer deck, he’s a leading contender.
7 Wapiti (Bet Now: $9.50) is capable with his best. He ran in the Sea Raider race from two weeks back at Doomben. He had the back of The Elanora and loomed but just seemed a bit one paced in the conditions and I do think he is a horse that wants more ground, which he gets here, and he isn’t racing too bad.
Race 5. (14:58) Makers Mark Hcp (C3) 1200m
1 Plundering (Bet Now: $4.60) finds it very hard to win but he is an honest animal and should be around the mark. He ran over 1200m three weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he seemingly had every chance but was no match late for Millane, who was awful last Saturday, so the strength of the form is a touch suspect but this horse looks to have found a very winnable race.
4 John Rambo (Bet Now: $6.50) is hard to beat. Tony Gollan trained gelding that ran at Doomben four weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run and although he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat behind Strapparsi. If he can settle closer in the run, he’s going to take holding out.
20 Iron Grace (Bet Now: $13.00) is a mare that comes here off a win for local trainer Scott Morrisey. This mare won three weeks ago at Eagle Farm where she got shuffled back from the inside gate but came with a well timed run under Collett to finish best in an impressive display. She has found winning form, her confidence is up, she can take this out.
Race 6. (15:33) The Gold Jewel 1400m
3 Boom Torque (Bet Now: $3.30) picks himself I feel. Matty Dunn trained gelding that has been super this time in, highlighted of course by the win here on Magic Millions Day in the QTIS race. He has since had two runs at Doomben, being a touch plain two back but bounced back to his best two weeks ago, aided by a rail hugging steer. 1400m no issue and for mine, is clearly the one to beat.
1 Legal Esprit (Bet Now: $11.00) is an absolute beauty for Donald Baker and commands respect. He ran a fortnight back at Doombem, getting the sweet sit behind the speed before angling clear and he knuckled down strongly late to win and win well. 1400m is the query but he is so genuine and is one of the leading chances.
2 Master Jamie (Bet Now: $14.00) has run well at the track/distance previously and his best is good enough to be dangerous. He last ran in the Sunny Coast Cup back on Jan 27 where he did too much work to land on speed and felt the pinch in the straight to finish down the track behind Kinloch. Tick over trial was good and with a more economical run, he’s dangerous.
Race 7. (16:08) Military Rose Plate 1100m
3 Chinny Boom (Bet Now: $1.45) is a quality mare for Clinton Taylor that has been kept on ice, having not raced since Magic Millions Day in the QTIS race behind Boom Torque where she seemingly had every chance but was still good in defeat. Tick over trial win last week at Rockhampton was very good and she does go very well on the fresh side. Takes beating I’d suggest.
9 Black On Beauty (Bet Now: $10.00) will land on speed and take running down for Tony Gollan, who was second up over 1200m at Eagle Farm three weeks ago when attempting to lead throughout and giving a strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through when beaten narrowly by Blue Spinel. Hard fit now, should land on speed quite comfortably and from there, take running down.
4 Reliable Ruby (Bet Now: $41.00) is a knockout hope if this track continues to dry right out. She found a bottomless deck at the Sunny Coast last time and was very good from near last when a close up fourth to Hakkai Maru. Firmer footing, she will likely get back but should be strong at the end. Must for exotics.
Race 8. (16:47) Qtis Jewel (2Yo) 1200m
3 Defiant Boom (Bet Now: $5.50) looks suited up to 1200m for Stuart Kendrick. This colt resumed two weeks ago in the Prelude at Doomben where he ran a very credible race in defeat but potentially bumped into a potential star in All Inclusive, a horse that David Vandyke says reminds him of Alligator Blood, so if you take him on his word, that form is strong and clearly A1 for this.
8 Mishani Lily (Bet Now: $4.60) has a good racing style and is one of the key chances. Les Ross trained filly that won the Fillies Prelude at Doomben a fortnight back, leading throughout and giving a very strong kick under Orman to win and win well. If she can stretch her brilliance out to 1200m, with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.
10 Mishani Crown (Bet Now: $17.00) is the improver at odds for Les Ross. She was 1200m and back to 1110m, several weeks between runs, when racing two weeks back in the Fillies Prelude at Doomben and she tried hard but the lack of race fitness just brought her undone late in the piece. Fitter, she has the quality to bounce back.
Race 9. (17:27) Qtis Jewel (3Yo) 1200m
Class gets 10 Trifling (Bet Now: $6.50) home for mine. She comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since the Magic Millions Guineas where she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Abounding, beaten under two lengths in a strong effort. Home track advantage and with a touch of quality, she is on top for me.
It’s hard seeing 1 Defiant Spirit (Bet Now: $4.00) getting beat given how dominant he was in the Prelude two weeks ago at Doomben, but the wide gate is a massive negative. He was in a tight spot at the top of the straight but once he got clear, gee he let down with purpose and was quite arrogant the way he put them away. Fitter, up to 1200m…hard to beat, but the gate has turned me off him being on top.
8 Kesalul (Bet Now: $17.00) is a definite winning threat given he will be stronger than most at the end. He ran in the Prelude two weeks back where he was off a break and took a little while to wind into his work but was strong to/through the line behind Defiant Spirit. Fitter and up to 1200m, good speed in front, he’ll be strong at the end.
Race 10. (18:08) Bbc Digital And Cannon Australia (Bm78) 1100m
12 Hidden Wealth (Bet Now: $4.20) is capable with his best of being a knockout hope. He resumed behind Apophis three weeks back. He led and gave a decent kick but being first up, condition just gave way late in the piece behind the Gough sprinter. He is fitter, he has a good racing style and has more upside than most, so don’t pen him.
13 Party Spirit (Bet Now: $5.50) is four weeks between runs. Rob Heathcoate trained mare last raced at Doomben over 1200m where she seemingly had every chance but was pretty good in defeat after leading, finishing third to Strapparsi. Best suited on the fresh side and in not an overly strong race, she rates highly for me.
17 Five Oxford (Bet Now: $41.00) is an interesting runner. He comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Jan 10 at Doomben when on speed and he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there and just felt the pinch late when fifth to Hollywood North. He does tend to race well on the fresh side and overall, this isn’t a deep race, so he commands
