A nine race card has been set down for Eagle Farm this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:17) Gallopers Sports Club Handicap 1400m
2 Sizzling Babe (Bet Now: $1.50) should be winning this. Neville Saunders trains this filly, who ran over 1300m here two weeks ago and you could make a good case that she should have won. Had no luck in the straight when seemingly having plenty to offer and with clear, comfortably wins IMO. 1400m looks perfect…just needs clear air and she’ll be too good for these IMO.
5 Just Cosmos (Bet Now: $6.50) is a daughter of Dissident for the Kris Lees stable who was solid enough in betting when debuting at Quirindi and she didn’t really set the world on fire behind Cassy’s Sister. Comes north and we’ve seen that the trip up does work well for the Kris Lees runners. Finds a very thin two year old race so an improved showing wouldn’t shock at all.
6 Raingurl (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Ben Currie trained filly who has had two career outings, both on her home track at Toowoomba. Resumed a few weeks back and was pretty ordinary behind dominant all the way winner Perudo, with that filly jumping and running, giving nothing a look in, and did run okay, albeit a beaten favourite, last Saturday. Can she improve enough to figure?
Race 2. (13:57) TAB Handicap (Class 6) 1000m
Huge query is 8 Crusher (Bet Now: $4.60), a talented mare for the Ben Currie stable that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since June 13 at Toowoomba when bolting up over 1200m in a race which has produced two winners, so the form is nothing to jump up and down about, but the stable made a statement last Saturday, especially with their first up winner Mishani Vaidra. Keen to see how she goes.
9 Totally Charmed (Bet Now: $3.90) is a son of I Am Invincible resuming for the Steve O’Dea. This gelding had a six run prep in the Winter, winning three races, including last start in impressive fashion over 1200m at the Sunny Coast. Scraped in to win the maiden first up last prep but did look to trial well at the Sunshine Coast a few weeks back behind the Group l performed Baccarat Baby. 1000m is short of his best but looks to have a touch of quality.
4 I’ve Gotta Nel (Bet Now: $5.00) is a talented sprinter for the Barry Lockwood stable that is first up. He can be a bit hot and cold at times but no denying that when he’s right, he’s certainly city class, as we saw last prep on numerous occasions. Resumes without a trial, but should hold a forward spot from the inside barrier and Corey Bayliss gets on really well with the horse.
Race 3. (14:32) BRC Memberships Handicap (75) 2212m
2 Cormac (Bet Now: $6.50) is just about ready to win for mine. Two runs in Sydney were just fair before racing here two weeks ago where he got a fair way back off the pace but worked home without troubling them behind Perfect Witness. He’s getting fitter and is starting to find some positive form. In a winnable race here, in the right stable, I’ll go his way, hopefully at an each way price.
8 Kopella (Bet Now: $15.00) is rising a fair bit in depth, but I think she’s earned a crack at the metro grade after a couple of spank jobs at Toowoomba over 1800m where she has beaten nothing but has simply been far too good for them, with her turn of foot coming to the fore late. 2200 at this level is a different kettle of fish, but hard to knock a mare in a purple patch.
5 Eagle Bay…(Bet Now: $23.00) I couldn’t back him to win with borrowed money but one day he’ll win a race…I think. Had his first run for Chris Munce last Wednesday at Doomben and never really looked likely but did make ground very late, suggesting extra ground will suit, which he gets here. If he ran to anywhere near his best, he’ll win…but it’s been a long time since he has done that.
Race 4. (15:07) Rod Kemp Handicap (80) 1200m
12 Shalwa (Bet Now: $2.20) is a Tony Gollan trained mare who took of an average lot first up at Ipswich at a short quote before racing at Doomben three weeks where she was again short odds and let the punters down with a weak finish behind Raiden. Perhaps second up syndrome? Lloyd jumps on and back to mares grade, want to give her another chance but couldn’t take anything silly short.
3 Foxy Housewife (Bet Now: $6.00) is the knockout chance. Thought she was very disappointing two back at Ipswich before going to Doomben where I thought she could run an improved race and she looked home when she dashed and hit the front, but couldn’t finish it off when beaten narrowly by Mr Markou. Bit of depth to this race, but that last start gives her some hope.
If Shalwa is off her game and a blowout happens at huge odds, it could well come from 2 Hectopascal (Bet Now: $18.00), a former Darren Weir galloper having her first run for Tony Gollan. City class mare over a mile/thereabouts who had a forgetful Spring, but that was due to poor placement at Stakes level. Now with Gollan and was given a relatively quiet trial on Tuesday at Deagon. Early market flucs suggest she isn’t ready, but I’d include her in wider multiples.
Race 5. (15:48) The Racing Museum Plate (Class 3) 1400m
This does look an ideal race for the Steve O’Dea trained 9 Francisca (Bet Now: $2.25). Was really keen on her when she raced here two weeks ago but unfortunately she got stuck three wide on speed and that beat her in the end when bloused near the peg by Benfica Princess. Trakus data says she produced really good splits between the 600-200m and then she felt the pinch the final furlong. Better luck this time and she’ll go very close.
12 Zoucara (Bet Now: $4.80) is a daughter of Zoustar for the Chris Munce stable that is in a real purple patch at the moment. Has won 3/3 this time in, the latest coming over 1300m here a fortnight ago when producing a lovely finale from the back to win impressively in a similar race. 1400m should be no issue if last start is any guide and no reason why she can’t continue the picket fence.
11 Winning Ways (Bet Now: $15.00) is an interesting runner. Handy enough looking filly for the Garry Newham stable first up. This girl hasn’t raced since Boxing Day at the Sunny Coast when sitting off the speed and presenting at the right time for a narrow but impressive win, her third on the bounce. Resumes without a trial, but interesting to see what the market does.
Race 6. (16:27) Paddyfest Handicap 1840m
I’m really keen on 11 Rocknavar (Bet Now: $3.00). Dominant maiden winner two back at Grafton before stepping back to the mile here where she was unlucky and you could make a case she should have won when second to Tatcee. Back up to 1800m, has upside, seems a stayer of promise…I think with clear air, she’ll be too good for these and is one of the better bets on the program.
2 Tatcee (Bet Now: $3.30) is a Chris Waller trained filly who has been up forever it seems but gee she’s racing well and that was rewarded with a pretty good win over the mile here two weeks ago under a lovely steer from Jeff Lloyd. Little query at the trip but she’s a hard fit/in form filly in the right stable and this is a similar race to the one she won two weeks ago, so she’s a threat.
12 Missed The Alarm (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Steve O’Dea trained filly who looks to be heading into the right direction. Ran in a 1700m maiden at Grafton last time where she was well backed and despite taking a while to get there, she finished best to get the job done with the signals there being she’ll be better over further, which she gets here, and gets onto the bigger track. Knockout chance.
Race 7. (17:12) Weddings @ BRC Handicap 1400m
Big track, 1400m…time to stand up and be counted 3 Tumbler (Bet Now: $2.90). She just had no chance of winning at Doomben last Saturday given the leader/winner Mr Marbellouz ran some outstanding splits from the front, and when he’s running 33.67 for his last 600m, those behind had no chance. Depth not as strong, 1400m and finally a bigger track…she gets her chance.
Great to see 2 Order Again (Bet Now: $4.40) back at the races. This Brian Smith trained galloper hasn’t raced since September 15 at Doomben when a somewhat disappointing fourth to Prioritise but the vet found he wasn’t striding freely so something was amiss. Been given a good break and gee I thought his trial was excellent last week. He can run brilliant late time if right and he bolted up fresh last time.
9 Impasse (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Chris Waller trained son of Sepoy who was hard in the market when resuming over 1350m at Doomben three weeks ago where he was there to win when he got the split and looked the winner but couldn’t hold off the finale of the impressive Eminent. He is a second up winner and I think 1400m on the big track is going to be right up his alley.
Race 8. (17:50) Sky Central Handicap (80) 1200m
I think 1 King Lear (Bet Now: $4.40) can bounce back. Outstanding win from the back to win over 1300m here two back before going to Randwick where he just got too far out of his ground in an on pace dominated affair won by You Make Me Smile. Back to 1200m, back to Eagle Farm and significantly back in depth. If he’s within range 400m out, he’s good enough to bounce back.
4 Capital Connection (Bet Now: $2.15) is a handy galloper for Tony Gollan who has been quite good in two runs back from a break. Solid third fresh behind Meet Mr Taylor before dropping a bit in depth and under a confident ride from Lloyd, the gelding proved far too good in a commanding performance. He seems to be heading in the right direction and is a definite chance.
I think getting to the outside of horses will really suit 11 Coral Bay (Bet Now: $17.00) and he could be a knockout chance here. Comes through the Benfica Princess race here from two weeks ago where he was caught inside runners, not much clear air and nothing really went right for him. Seems to race best when getting to the outside and letting down, so that should eventuate from the gate here.
Race 9. (18:30) Hamilton Hotel Handicap (Class 6) 1600m
Just has to repeat last start and I think 4 Reckless Choice (Bet Now: $2.70) will be winning again. He was given such a sweet steer from Boris to win a fortnight back here, getting the beaut sit just off the speed before waiting and waiting to let him down and he rode the track beautifully, with the horse comfortably winning. Ride won the race and I think he can continue the picket fence.
10 Get Stuck In (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Tony Gollan trained son of Lucas Cranach who is racing in a real purple patch at the moment. He has won his past, the first one coming over 1400m here before sitting wide no cover at Doomben and looking gone at one stage but he surged late and got the win right on the peg. Eagle Farm looks his track and the 1600m here should suit.
11 Realing (Bet Now: $27.00) could easily bounce back here. Should have beaten Bluebrook here two back before racing behind Reckless Choice where he just got too far back from the wide gate and was never in the hunt, and would have had to run 33.5/thereabouts last 600m from where he was to win. No chance. Can sit much closer from gate one and is the one at stupid odds.
