WA Metro racing on Saturday makes a rare trip to Bunbury for an eight race card, highlighted by the $100,000 Bunbury Classic (1000m). The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (16:14) : Gommes Shoes Handicap (66+) 1100m:
Back Me: 2 King River (Bet Now: $2.50) is a talented gelding resuming for the Williams yard. He performed very well last time in, though on some occasions he was a bit of a money muncher. Looked sharp in a recent trial behind star three year old The River, who goes around in the feature later in the program.
Big Danger: 1 Furious Dame (Bet Now: $5.00) is a speedy mare that is on the back up after racing over 1000m last Saturday where she scooted along in front and was just picked off late when third to Gigante. She will lead here and definitely give them something to think about.
Roughie: 9 Delicate Miss (Bet Now: $16.00) ran at the midweeks at York a couple of weeks ago where she had the charmed run behind the tempo and wasn’t beaten that far, just under a length in a tidy performance. Proven city performer who can bounce back here for sure in a tricky race.
Race Two (16:54) : Monster Storage Handicap (72+) 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Scales Of Justice (Bet Now: $1.75) is a high class galloper that resumes for Lindsey Smith. He had the three runs last prep, winning the last two in very impressive fashion. Trial was outstanding and he is just an exciting animal going places. Keen on him.
Big Danger: 6 Coming Back (Bet Now: $7.00) is a smart conveyance for Team Williams that is first up. Only had the one run in the Autumn when finishing a close up second to stablemate Regal Commander. He looked sharp in the trial mentioned above with The River and King River.
Roughie: 3 Sujet (Bet Now: $41.00) resumes here for the Simon Miller yard. He has promised a fair bit throughout his career but is yet to deliver on that promise. Disappointing last prep but a recent trial was okay and he does have a great fresh record.
Race Three (17:34) : SW Ceilings Handicap (1MW) 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Forever Diamonds (Bet Now: $2.40) ran a fortnight back over 1300m at Belmont where Pike had her last in the run before peeling her widest on the turn and she just charged clear to win impressively. Looks well placed here and one of the better bets on the program.
Big Danger: 12 One Short (Bet Now: $11.00) has been given a seven week freshen up since racing at Belmont where he didn’t have the best of luck in the run when fourth to talented type Get Over It. Stable is going very well at the moment and this bloke is above average.
Roughie: 10 Krakka Vision (Bet Now: $4.40) is a talented type that resumes here. Has a really solid overall and did perform well in town when last in work. Trial leading in was good enough, draws well and the claim for Jordan Turner really helps. A threat.
Race Four (18:10) : Hughes Chauffeured Limousines Handicap (1MW) 1400m:
Back Me: 10 King Louie (Bet Now: $19.00) was a superb maiden winner at Belmont two back before racing there last Wednesday and having no luck at all when third to Ferngrove. Draws an okay gate and is one of the form horses leading in.
Big Danger: 5 Ripper Rio (Bet Now: $4.00) could not have been impressive when resuming at Northam a couple of weeks ago, sitting back in the ruck before peeling wide and letting down strongly to get the win and ending up doing it with plenty left. Proven in town before and has upside. One of the hardest to beat.
Roughie: 13 Cool Image (Bet Now: $9.00) ran over 1300m at Belmont two weeks ago where he sat last in the run and produced a booming finish from the back to just miss out on picking up Juendis. Can be hard to trust and follow, but that last start was a terrific pointer for this.
Race Five (18:50) : Market City Meats Kevin Cox Memorial (1MW) 1675m:
Back Me: 8 Prying Tom (Bet Now: $6.00) looked in a little bit of trouble last time out at Belmont in the straight but Pike produced that magic wand of his to lift the galloper over the line. That was start three at 1650m so he should have no issue here and Pike remains on.
Big Danger: 11 Someday One Day (Bet Now: $8.50) ran in a 1400m maiden at Belmont a fortnight ago where he was given a beaut steer from Pike to land the prize and break the maiden tag. He can sit closer in the run here and rates as a massive threat.
Roughie: 9 The Forgotten One (Bet Now: $16.00) has been given a five week freshen up since racing over the mile at Belmont when finishing down the track behind the well performed stablemate Falcon Crest. Little break should do him some good and on his day he is very talented.
Race Six (19:20) : South West Isuzu Handicap (72+) 2200m:
Back Me: 4 Charlestown (Bet Now: $2.40) just looks a good thing here. He ran over this distance at Belmont two weeks back and was ridden confidently by Pike, duly saluting in an impressive win. He was 1600m to 2200m that afternoon, so he should only improve off that and it’s hard seeing him getting rolled.
Big Danger: 9 Cougar Nights (Bet Now: $10.00) ran over 1400m at Belmont a fortnight ago and closed off okay late in the piece from the back to run fifth to Flying Roar. 1400m to 2200m is a big ask, but he has upside and a really good record on the track.
Roughie: 10 Daneclicked (Bet Now: $15.00) sat on speed in that Charlestown race and he was just totally outpaced but stuck on pretty well I thought when fourth, beaten just over three lengths. He does get a weight swing on Charlestown and has upside, so he’s a chance.
Race Seven (19:50) : Tabtouch Bunbury Classic1000m:
Back Me: 1 The Rivr (Bet Now: $6.00) is a very talented galloper kicking off his three year old season. He won two on the bounce before being the heavily backed favourite in the Karrakatta Plate where he was caught wide all the way behind Whspering Brook. Trial was sensational, the only negative is the case. Had he drawn a better marble, I’d declare him.
Big Danger: 10 Elegant Blast (Bet Now: $26.00) is the race fit type that could be the knockout. She was a flop two weeks back at Belmont where she didn’t really finish the race off with any ping. Blinkers go on which could spark here, and on her day, she’s very good.
Roughie: 4 Atacama Sky (Bet Now: $6.50) also resumes after a failed crack at the Karrakatta. This gelding sat on speed throughout where it was hot and he folded up to finish near last. Trials have been very good and I think the lead is there to be taken, by him.
Race Eight (20:25) : MAC Drink Driving? GROW UP Handicap (78+) 1400m:
Back Me: 11 Chocolate Holic (Bet Now: $2.70) looks the second of good things. He ran three weeks back at Belmont where he sat last in the run and was seemingly off the bit the entire trip but once Pike peeled him wide, he let down like a really classy horse. Interesting to note that Pike jumps off, but he loses little with Peter Hall steering.
Big Danger: 14 Heart Starter (Bet Now: $4.20) is the horse that Pike is steering. This bloke is first up after a Derby prep where he ran midfield behind the classy stablemate Arcadia Dream. His trials leading in have been very good, and you have to respect the fact that Pike rides this bloke and not Chocolate Holic.
Roughie: 7 Reflectance (Bet Now: $7.00) ran in the Hannans at Kalgoorlie last time out where he got back in the ruck and just savaged the line to just miss out on picking up Socially Unique. He had been struggling earlier in the prep, but the trip to Kalgoorlie has done his form wonders and he is a major threat here if the top two are off their game.
