A nine race card has been assembled for Eagle Farm on Saturday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out ten metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out eight metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (13:38) TAB QTIS 2YO Hcp 1200m
1 Boom Spender (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Desleigh Forster trained son of Spirit Of Boom that was kept very safe in betting when debuting at Doomben and while the win was nothing flash, he still got the job done, and did it from the front as well. You’d think he would improve off that, he has the right racing pattern…no knock from me.
4 Mishani Machine (Bet Now: $3.10) has the good hard race experience under the belt and comes here off the back of a first up win over 900m at the Gold Coast when a notable drifter in betting with the money arriving big time for the stablemate Hancora Field, but she finished best and was far too good. Meets her 2kg better for beating her, and has upside, so she’s hard to beat he
3 Statesville (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Written Tycoon colt for the in form Kacy Fogden stable that comes to town off the back of a strong win at Beaudesert where Mallyon had him near the speed throughout, had full momentum on the turn and was simply too good for his rivals. Did he beat much? Probably not, but the stable is just flying at the moment so giving it respect.
Race 2. (14:13) CASCADE Hcp (bm75) 2225m
1 Art Attack (Bet Now: $3.20) is three weeks between runs and is now under the care of Barry Lockwood after formerly being with Jenny Graham. He ran here last start where Du Plessis looked to give him a sweet steer just off the pace and he tried hard but couldn’t quite go with Romakash to the line in a solid effort. Knocking on the door to win and gets his chance.
Good little test here for 8 Swing Shift (Bet Now: $6.00) but I reckon Matt Boland has a nice one on his hands here. A three year old that has won three on the bounce, each time beating the older horses, and if you’re doing that as a three year old, you’ve been very well placed or you’re above average. Potentially both, leaning towards the latter. He’s the fresh blood against these old timers, and we saw that formula prove successful two weeks ago with Torrens.
10 In Your Element (Bet Now: $7.50) is eligible for much easier but Kevin Kemp has this mare racing really well. Comes through the Romakash race from three weeks ago here where she was back on the fence and slightly held up while those out wide had momentum. She got clear late and found the line well enough. Not sure she wins, but a must for exotics.
Race 3. (14:48) GRINDERS Hcp (C3) 1840m
This race looks a nice progression for 6 Twilighter (Bet Now: $4.60), formerly with Chris Waller, but had her first run for Desleigh Forster over 1500m here three weeks ago and gee she was a real eye catcher from the back. Loved the way she found the line when fourth to The Kingdom. Fitter and up to 1800m, with enormous upside, she rates highly.
1 Galaxy Guru (Bet Now: $5.50) has come really well for Paul Duncan I feel. Both runs back from a spell have come at the Sunny Coast, closing off strongly first up behind Zoology before stepping up to the mile and again catching the eye when a closing third to Sunny St Cloud. Big track, 1800m, hard fit, he has plenty going for him.
Fitter and up to 1800m are two ticks for 11 Mill City (Bet Now: $11.00), who was a few weeks between runs and coming back in trip when racing over the mile at the Sunny Coast last time. Just lacked the gears to win but was sound in defeat when fourth to Sunny St Cloud. Like her up in trip again and she does handle wet going.
Race 4. (15:23) MOUNT FRANKLIN QTIS 3YO Hcp 1600m
Leaning the way of 2 Badoosh (Bet Now: $5.00) for Matty Dunn. Raced at the mile for the first time in his career two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast where I thought Brad Stewart rode a peach race on the three year old and did everything bar get it home, getting bloused near the peg by Vanna Girl. Has the 1600m run under the belt now which should hold him in good stead.
4 Vanna Girl (Bet Now: $3.90) has always showed good promise since day one and she’s putting it together now. Really caught the eye two back over 1400m at the Sunny Coast before racing over the mile there and producing a brilliant finale to get up and score a big win. She’s doing this all in her first prep, so what upside is left I’m not sure, but she’s got a very good engine under the hood.
11 Playthefield (Bet Now: $9.00) is still a maiden and really, that’s surprising because he has showed really good ability. Just has this awful habit of hitting a flat spot when he needs to get going and by the time he does, it’s race over. He’s crying out for further, which he gets here, but straight to the mile from 1200m on testing ground? A win wouldn’t shock at all, but safe option is include him in multiples.
Race 5. (16:02) JIM BEAM Hcp (bm70) 1200m
5 Katy’s Daughter (Bet Now: $2.25) looks the one on the up here. Steve O’Dea trains this three year old filly, who was excellent in defeat two back behind Yamazaki before being freshened up and going to the Sunny Coast for a kill, where she sat on speed and spanked them. To the eye, it was sharp, but not on the clock, so needs to improve, but she was a few weeks between runs, so there should be improvement.
15 Moonshine Lady (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Team Hulbert trained mare that had her first run for the stable over the 1110m at Doomben where she was kept pretty safe in betting off two trials and with the featherweight, she ran along in front and gave nothing else a look in a solid showing of sustained speed. Just needs to stretch that out to 1200m, but the big tick for her is if we get a wet track.
1 Racecourse Road (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Chris Munce trained gelding that had trialled up very well prior to resuming here three weeks ago when wide throughout over the 1000m but in saying that, he didn’t really find much under pressure behind Emerald Kingdom. Draws much better this time around and the overall depth isn’t as strong.
Race 6. (16:42) CANADIAN CLUB OPEN Hcp 1600m
Going to butter up with with the Chris Waller trained 6 New Universe (Bet Now: $4.00). Just got a mile out of his ground over 1600m here three weeks ago and just had too much ground to make up but did get close to knocking of Cool Chap. Hopefully can sit that bit closer in the run this time around and the tempo shouldn’t be as strong, so his turn of foot may come to the fore.
5 Silvera (Bet Now: $3.20) looks really well suited up to 1600m. Was a few weeks between runs and coming back in trip when contesting the Sunny Coast Cup a fortnight ago and really liked the way he found the line from well off the speed behind the in form Scallopini. Has more upside than most here and out to 1600m, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
7 Prioritise (Bet Now: $14.00) isn’t far off pinching a race I feel. Comes through the Sunny Coast Cup where he was never really a winning threat but didn’t mind his finale for a horse that is better suited over a bit further. He gets that bit further trip now and can sit much closer in the run if they’re positive at the start. If they are, he becomes dangerous.
Race 7. (17:22) COCA COLA No Metro Wins Hcp 1400m
15 Smart As Attack (Bet Now: $12.00) will do me here each way. Ran over 1400m at the Gold Coast last time out where he was back in the run off a somewhat slow speed and tried hard, but couldn’t reel in Bold Warrior. Gets a sweet run from the gate with only 51kg on his back after the claim, and he loves getting his toe in.
11 Sofie’s Gold Class (Bet Now: $3.80) is a key threat for me. Debbie Newham trains this mare, who is third up and should be at peak fitness. Outclassed but far from disgraced first up in the Just Now behind Frangipani Moon before racing at Eagle Farm several weeks back and worked home strongly from off the pace when third to Cruze. Depth here is strong but in form and should take some beating off a nice tick over trial.
Up to 1400m should suit the Rob Heathcoate trained 9 Plitvice (Bet Now: $12.00), who comes here in winning form after getting the job done over 1350m at Doomben. Got a good run in transit before peeling into clear, showing a really good turn of foot between the 300m-100m and fighting off the late closers. Has upside and stable is flying.
Race 8. (18:02) MAKERS MARK QTIS 3YO Hcp 1200m
Just has to run up to what he produced last time out at Doomben and 2 Snowzone (Bet Now: $3.70) wins again. Yes, he didn’t beat much, but it was the manner in which he put them away, showing an electric turn of foot despite being hands and heels under Mallyon and ran sharp late time in winning. Off that, he’ll eat up 1200m and is clearly the one to beat.
1 Master Jamie (Bet Now: $4.60) is an absolute beauty for Graeme Green. He puts in 110% every time he steps out and more often than not picks up a good chunk of prizemoney. Was a notable drifter in betting three weeks ago here but nobody told him that as he showed sharp sustained speed from the front and gave nothing else a look in. Harder here, but will give his all.
12 Splendarama (Bet Now: $35.00) is a daughter of Show A Heart for Steve O’Dea that resumes. This girl showed good talent in her first prep, which consisted of four runs, the latest at the Gold Coast when down the track behind Astro Toy Boy, who at the time was flying. Doomben trial was good and prior to the start of her career, she had been trialling very nicely on wet ground.
Race 9. (18:42) ROKU GIN Hcp (C6) 1200m
2 Auerbach (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Chris Waller trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since November 2 when down the track behind Deep Image, who of course went on to be a Stakes winner during the Summer Carnival, so the form does read quite well for this, trial was good and his three wet track runs have been full of merit, so if we get rain, don’t ignore him.
9 Winter Passage (Bet Now: $3.70) is flying for Stuart Kendrick. This mare was pegged as a bit of a non winner but that has all changed this time in, with the mare winning her past three, the latest coming two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast where she showed really good ticker because it was a blanket finish and she looked beaten, but surged late to win. Hard to knock the way she’s going. Just has to rise in grade/depth.
1 No Annamossity (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Rob Heathcoate trained son of Mossman that resumes. This guy has been off the boil for a little while, but does find such a winnable race if he was anywhere near his best. Can sprint well fresh and did look sharp in a recent Doomben trial win. Watch the market, especially if this track does get worse later in the day.
