Race 1. (12:29) Furphy (Bm82) 2037m
I think back to 2000m is a big tick for 3 Silent Command (Bet Now: $4.20). His last couple of runs have come at 2500m and while he has run okay, the trip has clearly been a stretch for him. The run at this trip three back was sound and the depth here is on the thin side. Tricky race, but leaning his way.
4 Melody Man (Bet Now: $3.90) should appreciate a rise to 2000m. Three weeks between runs since racing over the mile here when back in the run and did make up some headway but was never really a threat behind Moscow Red. Is proven at the trip so he commands respect.
1 Classy Joe (Bet Now: $4.20) is in the mix. He ran in the Benalla Cup on testing ground last time and battled on well enough in tough conditions when fourth to Not Usual Glorious, who would be $1.50 against these. Up in the weights but has the best form lines to give this a shake.
Race 2. (13:02) Croser (Bm68) 1600m
7 Six Foot Song (Bet Now: $4.60) is hard to beat. He ran over 1550m two weeks back on the Parks track and was excellent from near last on the turn, rocketing late out wide when second to Neodium. He was second up and that followed a strong return at Balaklava. Hard to beat here.
Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for 8 The Map (Bet Now: $5.50). She resumed a fortnight back over 1400m on the Parks track where they probably rode her a touch too close in the run and it took something away from her finale when fifth to surprise winner Hankstar. Like her up to the mile on the bigger track and with a more patient steer, she’ll be effective late.
6 Comfort Girl (Bet Now: $21.00) might want one more, but she’s an improver at odds. She resumed in the Hankstar race from two weeks back on the Parks track where the market said it would be a prep run for her and that’s how it panned out. She got back in the run and made up some headway without threatening. Maybe needs another run but her best is good enough to perhaps pinch a first four spot.
Race 3. (13:37) South Adelaide Panthers Mdn 1100m
Hard to ignore 3 Cold Case (Bet Now: $4.00) for Team Jolly. He trialled just over two weeks ago at Balaklava and gee he moved well to my eye when winning the trial by a comfortable margin and seemingly had plenty in hand. These Jolly runners with the Price colours generally fire early on in their career/prep, so he’s the one to beat.
5 Seven Secrets (Bet Now: $15.00) is in with a shout. He was kept pretty safe in betting when resuming on the Parks track but I just think he did a bit too much work on speed and felt the pinch late behind Hallstatt. He didn’t do a bad job in a two run Autumn prep as a juvenile, and I reckon ridden with a sit, he’ll be better off.
8 Yeah Whatever (Bet Now: $51.00) is a No Nay Never gelding for John Hyam that is on debut. He trialled at Balaklava and despite being pushed out, he responded well enough to my eye and was good when fourth. Might find these sharp early but should be strong late, so include in exotics.
Race 4. (14:12) Fresh 92.7 (Rs0ly) 1200m
7 Bamyan Buddha (Bet Now: $21.00) is a very interesting runner. Grant Young trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since April 23 when outclassed in the Redelva during the Carnival. Recent jumpout win was impressive and resuming in a race like this, he looks to be a leading contender.
3 Way To Go Paula (Bet Now: $2.35) is a query at 1200m but has the runs on the board to give this a shake. Her recent racing has come on the Synthetic at Pakenham, her latest run seeing her launch from near last on the turn when third to Extreme Step, beaten around a length. The distance is the query, but if she gets a soft trip, she’ll take beating.
4 Fallow (Bet Now: $14.00) would have loved the Port Lincoln season to begin but instead runs here and is a knockout hope with his racing style. Prep run at the Non TAB’s fresh and was close up in defeat. I reckon 1000m is his preferred trip but 1200m should be okay with the claim.
Race 5. (14:47) Hill Smith Stakes 1800m
2 Big Story (Bet Now: $2.35) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. Price/Kent trained three year old that has had two runs back from a break. Resumed with a maiden win on the Synthetic at Ballarat before going to The Valley where he ran a solid fourth to Castillian in a fast run race. The depth here is non existent and stable rarely misfire when they travel to SA.
1 Merchant Boss (Bet Now: $2.60) is bred to appreciate shorter but the way he’s racing and come back this time in, he’ll eat up 1800m here. Close up second to Anphina two back on the Parks track fresh over 1400m before stepping up to 1550m where he got control in front and gave nothing else a look in, winning impressively. If he leads and gets a cheap furlong or two, he’ll take beating.
8 More Reward (Bet Now: $6.50) hasn’t been too bad without winning in her short career to date. Race shape wasn’t to her liking two weeks back on the Parks track but liked the way she stuck to the task when second to Merchant Boss. Racing like 1800m will suit and this race is lacking depth.
Race 6. (15:23) Guinness (Bm60) 1531m
3 Exalted Fire (Bet Now: $3.50) is on the seven day back up for Michael Hickmott after racing over 1550m last Saturday on the Parks track where he was held up for a few strides before cutting back inside and drove hard, just missing out on the win when beaten a lip by Yuri Royale. On the back up and up in trip on the bigger track, he appeals.
7 Turfitt (Bet Now: $3.90) should be around the mark for the Richards/Moyle camp. Spanked them at this track/distance two back before going to the Parks track where she was near the speed throughout and battled on really well behind Neodium when third. Back on the bigger track, she can improve.
4 Crypto Currency (Bet Now: $11.00) is a knockout chance. Tough win three back at Bordertown before going to Murray Bridge when third to Headphones. He then went to the Parks track here and wasn’t suited by the race shape behind Hankstar. The depth here is on the thin side and his best is good enough.
Race 7. (16:02) Adl Support Services (Bm82) 1200m
2 Manhattan Times (Bet Now: $4.20) looks much better suited on the bigger track and confident he can get back into the winners list. He resumed two weeks ago on the Parks track where he was back off the speed and took a while to wind into his work. Had his chance but was good in defeat when second to Melba Storm. Like him on the bigger track and better for the run under the belt, he’ll take beating.
I reckon 1200m is as far as 4 Sixbysixtythree (Bet Now: $4.20) wants but has the Patrick Payne polish so he commands respect. Strong win three weeks ago at this track/distance, getting control in front under McNeil and gave nothing else a look in, winning well. Last bit will test but hard to knock how genuine he is.
10 Extra Mile (Bet Now: $12.00) is a first four threat. He ran in the Sixbysixtythree race from three weeks back where he wasn’t suited at all by the race shape but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off. Tempo, I think, will be more genuine, and the form prior suggested a win wasn’t far off.
Race 8. (16:42) Cale For The Drive Home (Bm60) 1200m
9 Salt Bay (Bet Now: $6.00) is knocking on the door to win one and I think she gets a great chance here. First run for Will Clarken came at this track a few weeks ago where she looked to be trucking on the turn but was no match late for Turfitt. Ran second but comfortably beat the rest. Back in trip but will be strong late.
7 Graceful Eagle (Bet Now: $9.00) deserves another chance. This mare was a dynamic winner two back on Balaklava Cup Day. She then went to the Parks track where Vorster probably rode her a pair or two closer in the run and I just think it took something away from her finale behind Neodium. I reckon ridden cold and saved for one run, she’ll launch late.
2 Bubble Over (Bet Now: $8.00) is three weeks between runs since racing on the Parks track where she had the suck run behind the speed and was there to threaten at the top of the straight, but just couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Lafargue. Form around her reads very well for a race like this, so she commands respect.
Race 9. (17:22) Davo,Tom & Callum (Bm72) 1050m
This is a very, very strong 72. I think the best version of 9 Rushaway Lad (Bet Now: $11.00) likely sees him win this. Son of Barbados for Travis Doudle that resumes. He hasn’t raced since June 4 at this track/distance when producing an end of prep run behind Star Hill, a Stakes performed sprinter. Form around him reads super and I’d love to see them roll forward, jump/run and prove hard to get past.
Back up to 1200m I do like for 2 Solar Gale (Bet Now: $11.00). He was good three back over this trip before going back to 1000m his past two. Latest of those 1000m runs came a fortnight back on the Parks track when near the speed throughout and battled on well when third to Daring Move. Like him up in trip again and overall, he finds a winnable race.
16 Zarace (Bet Now: $15.00) has been up a while but is holding his form well enough. Solid third to Taunting two back before racing on the course proper again when nearer the inside and battled on strongly late when close up behind Howl. I reckon with a more aggressive ride, he can bounce back.
Race 10. (17:57) Ian John Herron (Bm60) 1050m
11 Rich Gina (Bet Now: $3.20) on top. Team Blanch trained mare that resumed two weeks ago on the Parks track where she got back to near last in the run and was very good late in the piece when second to Fields Of Athenry. Staying at 1000m is the knock, but good speed in front, she’ll sit back and launch.
7 Sanbuck (Bet Now: $8.50) should be around the mark. He was several weeks between runs when racing on the Parks track a fortnight back where he was near the speed throughout and loomed to win but couldn’t quite get there when third to Fields Of Athenry. Fitter, bigger track, he’s a leading contender.
2 Old Time Rock (Bet Now: $9.00) is racing well and can certainly take this out. Andrew Clarken trained gelding that was a strong winner at the midweeks, getting the suck run behind the speed before angling clear and finishing best. Now he has that winning feeling, he can go on with it for sure despite the freshen up.
