A bumper nine race card will be run and won at Ascot for Melbourne Cup Day where it is Burgess Queen Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out fourteen metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (14:30) 3YO Handicap (0MW) 1200m

Back Me

I think you have to give 6 Amber Glow (Bet Now: $7.00) another look here. The form guide says she ran last on debut, but if you watch the replay, she went around as if it was a barrier trial. No luck at all, and went to the line under a hold. Market support said she’d run well so I’ll respect and give her another chance.

Danger

2 Colourful Charade (Bet Now: $1.70) took a little while to break the maiden status but he did a good job to get it out of the way last start over this trip at Bunbury. Given a lovely ride on speed, controlled things to suit himself, kicked at the right and just clung on to score. Should get the run of the race from the draw and rates highly.

Long Shot

9 Shania Style (Bet Now: $9.50) will appreciate the drop in depth here. She resumed in a hot three year old race here at the midweeks and while she didn’t really threaten, I think she should have finished a bit closer and did a good job considering behind Soundcheck. Draws to get clear running here and she can add value to exotics.

Race 2. (15:45) Sallinger Handicap (Class 1) 1200m

Back Me

8 Demeritorious (Bet Now: $2.90) looks a progressive type for the Peare camp. Debuted in an 1100m maiden at Geraldton and yes, he didn’t beat much, the time was nothing flash, but there was something about the win that I liked and I love the fact that the stable have sent him straight to town, a sign of confidence.

Danger

7 Earth (Bet Now: $6.50) is a very interesting runner here. Former Chris Waller trained gelding making her WA debut for the Albuino stable. On his best form back in Sydney, he would spank these, but he didn’t show it enough. Looked to trial well at Belmont last week and for mine he is a definite yard/market watch.

Long Shot

2 Kentoo (Bet Now: $12.00) is a handy three year old for the Stephen Miller team who resumed in the Bunbury Classic and he didn’t do a great deal behind Ocean Jewel, but he was out the back and just really had nothing to drag him into it. Much better suited here I feel and the blinkers are on first time. Big watch.

Race 3. (16:29) Tabtouch Maiden 1600m

Back Me

You would think only bad luck beats 11 Special Alert (Bet Now: $1.28). Just looks so well placed here by Team Williams. Ran in a 1400m Class One here last time out and worked home well from off the pace to run third to the above average Sophia’s Secret. Clearly not as much depth here, Pike on, soft draw…just wins.

Danger

12 Rossana (Bet Now: $20.00) has been given a few weeks off since debuting in a 0MW win race here over the 1200m where she was back, wide with cover, and while she never looked likely, she did make up nice ground late behind Sophia’s Secret, who came out and beat Special Alert in the race mentioned above. 1200m-1600m isn’t easy, but I’ll respect the judgement of the stable.

Long Shot

14 Showie Girl (Bet Now: $91.00) is a daughter of Show A Heart on debut for the Fred Kersley team. First up at the mile is not really the norm over here, but if there is one bloke who can pull it off, it is Kersley, and she has had a couple of really solid trials this preparation to get her ready for her first start. Chuck her in multiples.

Race 4. (17:08) Ironjack Handicap (Class 1) 2200m

Back Me

2 Dudemanbro (Bet Now: $4.20) will love a slogging 2200m so I’ll lean his way here. He was four weeks between runs when racing over 2200m at Northam last time out where he sat on speed and was very one paced in his pursuit of victory. Just kept whacking away but lacked the killer punch. That can be said for most of these, and he does have upside.

Danger

4 Come On Journey (Bet Now: $17.00) hasn’t raced for around a month since breaking the maiden status over the 1900m at York. Form out of the race hasn’t really been franked, but he gave them a good old fashioned spanking and did win with a bit of authority. Harder here, but he has scope whereas these have reached their mark.

Long Shot

3 Powercraft (Bet Now: $3.50) is a former Kris Lees trained galloper who has had a couple of runs in WA now and should be near peak fitness. He ran over this track/distance last Wednesday where he sat back in a very slowly run race and couldn’t quite quicken fast enough to get the win when fifth to Jazari. Blinkers on and the big tick is Pike on.

Race 5. (17:48) Devil's Lair Handicap (0MW) 1600m

Back Me

3 Sky Atlas (Bet Now: $4.20) is a few weeks between runs for the Durrant team since racing over the 1400m at Geraldton where he took his time to wind up from off the pace but his last 150m was excellent under Parnham to score. He’ll relish the extra furlong and bigger track, and now Pike takes over. Has plenty going for him.

Danger

4 Prentice (Bet Now: $11.00) could be a knockout chance here. He ran a couple of Saturdays back in the Collie Cup where he sat on speed at a good tempo and gave a pretty decent kick but just failed to go on with it and settled for a narrow second. I think back to the mile is perfect and he has run well at Ascot before.

Long Shot

9 Calibra (Bet Now: $11.00) attempted to lead all the way at this track/distance a couple of Wednesdays ago, and it was a solid gallop set by the mare. She gave a good kick until around the 200m mark where she started to raise the white flag. I think she’s better with cover, so if that eventuates, she’ll be mighty hard to roll.

Race 6. (18:28) PSC Insurance Brokers Handicap (Class 3) 1000m

Back Me

8 Mega Minx (Bet Now: $5.50) on top in a tricky affair. Team Pearce trained mare that attempted to lead all the way in a Class 5 over 1200m at Bunbury last time out but to my eye she just tended to overdo it on speed and had nothing left for the finish when fourth to My Grace. Back to 1000m is ideal and if she can get over, or get cover, she’ll take some beating.

Danger

4 Young John (Bet Now: $4.00) is a talented son of Trade Fair first up for the Warren Wilson team. This six year old broke the maiden last prep and overall was very good right throughout. Goes well fresh and bolted up in a Belmont trial in early October, indicating he was forward enough to run a beauty first up.

Long Shot

10 Stormy Planet (Bet Now: $27.00) is a handy mare that resumes for the Giadresco team. This girl hasn’t raced since early June at Belmont where she finished midfield behind Hallidora in a race which has produced two subsequent winners. Tends to race well fresh and I liked the way she looked in a recent Lark Hill barrier trial.

Race 7. (19:05) Yellowglen Handicap (0MW) 1200m

Back Me

6 Great Again (Bet Now: $2.70) is a promising galloper resuming for the Lindsey Smith. He had two runs to kick off his career in August, winning on debut at Belmont before going to Northam where he won again, narrowly but impressively. Trialled brilliantly to my eye last week at Belmont and he just has to overcome the sticky gate.

Danger

1 New Time (Bet Now: $7.50) is a ripping campaigner for the Jim Taylor stable. 10 years of age but racing as well as ever and he does have the hard fitness on his side. He ran a couple of weeks back over 1400m here and attempted to lead all the way. Led everywhere bar the final 50m. Back to 1200m is perfect and wherever Great Again goes, New Time will follow.

Long Shot

9 Greco (Bet Now: $9.00) is a John Bowtell trained sprinter who can be hit and miss at times but I’ll include him here. Ran over 1200m at Bunbury last time out where he sat on speed and looked to travel well but his condition just gave way late when seventh to My Grace, beaten two lengths. Should come on from that and Pike steers.

Race 8. (19:45) Peacock Bros Burgess Queen Stakes 1400m

Back Me

I think we could see a potential Kingston Town contender here in 8 Mikimoto (Bet Now: $2.50). She has only won two from two, in weak races, but the manner in which she has won does give the impression she’s pretty special. Wide no cover over 1200m here last time out but she cruised throughout and she showed gears when asked. I’m very keen to see what she does here.

Danger

2 Perfect Jewel (Bet Now: $6.50) is a stabemate of Mikimoto who is a star in her own right. Just not quire she has the level of upside/brilliance Mikimoto has. Still, she has the runs on the board after a gutsy win in the Belgravia where she had the 1/1 sit throughout before easing wider and finishing best in a driving go. 1400m no issue. Just has to get cover from the draw.

Long Shot

3 Art Series (Bet Now: $6.50) is a gutsy filly for the Mcaullife team. She always tries her heart out on speed and gives her all, like she did in the Belgravia where she sat near the pace, took the lead, fought, but just lacked the killer blow to finish it off. Suspect at 1400m, but should get a soft run from the barrier.

Race 9. (20:23) James Boags Premium Railway Stakes November 25 Handicap (Class 3) 1400m

Back Me

13 Sally’s Realm (Bet Now: $2.10) looks a good thing in the get out. Loved her win over 1200m here last time out. Took her time to get into gear but her last 100-150m was excellent, charging to the line and through it. Was nominated for the Burgess Queen, so that gives you an idea of how highly rated she is. The one here.

Danger

2 Fille De Merit (Bet Now: $16.00) sat last in a field of six last time out over 1400m at Bunbury where there was no pace on at all, so she would have had to produce some pretty slick sectionals to overhaul them. She didn’t, but she fought on really well despite making a long run. Unbeaten second up and there will be more tempo here.

Long Shot

1 Prince Turbo (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Jason Miller trained gelding that is first up here. This bloke teased to win his maiden for some time last prep but he did eventually get it. I like the fact he is resuming in town over 1400m, a sign that there is intent from the stable to put in a bold showing fresh, and his trial backs that theory up.
