7/7/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gawler

Metro racing in South Australia this Saturday heads to Gawler for what looks to be a very strong eight race card. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. The last couple of meetings, the best ground has been the outside fence so keep that in mind when betting here.

1 Crockett (Bet Now: $1.70) should be beating this field. Quality youngster for Tony McEvoy who resumed three weeks back at Morphettville and ran a beauty I thought when a close up third to Assertive Play, who won again last Saturday to frank the form. The overall form of this gelding reads far superior to anything engaged here. He’s the safe and obvious option.

4 First Diamond (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Delago Deluxe filly for Tony McEvoy who took a little while to break the maiden tag but she finally got it out of the way a couple of Wednesdays back over 1050m at Balaklava when sitting on speed and dashing away late under Jason Holder. Bit more depth here, but now her confidence is up, she can go on with it.

2 Eclair Mirage (Bet Now: $18.00) is a son of Ocean Park on debut for Phillip Stokes. I think whatever he does this prep, he’ll be better off for it in 6-12 months time because off what I’ve seen at the two trials, he looks raw with a bit to learn, but I think there is a decent engine under the hood. Interesting to see what he does here.

I reckon if ever 1 Go The Journey (Bet Now: $5.50) is going to win another race, he gets his chance here. He has been going okay in three runs this time in but each start he has copped pressure in front and faded late, the latest coming four weeks ago behind So You Too. Gets a decent weight swing on that horse here and is the only leader. Gee he’ll give a sight.

If you were on 3 Exalted Adam (Bet Now: $2.80) a fortnight back on the Parks track, you could have been allowed to thinking your ticket was confetti given he blew to as much as $6 after opening $3 but the drift didn’t matter as he proved too good for them. Been up a long time, but the form around him just reads so well.

7 Stragun (Bet Now: $7.50) is a beauty but is just finding it very hard to greet the judge first. He comes through the Exalted Adam race a fortnight ago where he did a bit of work in the run and just ran out of petrol tickets late to run a close up fourth. Has placed in all three career outings at Gawler and remains down in the weights.

Happy to be with 1 Night Falls (Bet Now: $1.85) for the Weir camp. Wasn’t sure how he’d cope with the bog track last time at the Bool and while I don’t think he was entirely happy on the surface, a 12/10 from D Lane got the well bred colt. He’s been up a while, but seems to be holding his form quite nicely and this isn’t a strong race.

2 Chubby Rain (Bet Now: $10.00) looks a progressive type for Stuart Gower and his combo with Owen Ridge has been very good this season. They combined with this horse to break the maiden tag last time out over the Balaklava mile where he was well backed and he charged to the line with purpose to win. Confident he measures up.

5 Turnpike (Bet Now: $23.00) is a Dean Saxon trained son of Street Cry who put together a couple of nice wins, including a metro win over the Morphettville mile at big odds. Ran over 1800m last Saturday and just copped too much pressure in front, dropping out to finish down the track. Interesting he backs up, perhaps a sign he’s come through that well enough to back up.

7 Casino Club (Bet Now: $3.00) is a mare for Tony McEvoy who is in ripping form. Ran over the 1950m on the Parks track and she never looked like getting beat, with Paul Gatt putting her into a sweet spot just off the pace and once he presented her on the turn, it was game over. Is a winner here and 2100m no issue.

4 Annaman…(Bet Now: $6.50) gee he’s a bludger. He owes me a couple of suburbs, so I couldn’t back him to win ever again, but he goes in multiples. Ran okay behind Casino Club though never likely from where he was. Trialled up well on Tuesday at Warrnambool to keep him ticking over and he will have no trouble with the trip.

The wet track brings 5 More Than Fabulous (Bet Now: $6.00) right into the mix. Dominant win at this track/distance two back before racing in the Casino Club race and being far from disgraced in running fourth. Back to this track/distance on a track with give in it, he should take some beating, especially with a 2.5kg weight swing on the McEvoy horse.

If she runs up to the trial, 1 Nodoubtaboutit (Bet Now: $4.20) just about wins. Phillip Stokes trains this four year old mare who is an absolute bomb when produced fresh. Just didn’t come up at all in the Summer in a couple of runs, clearly not being at her best, which we know that when she is, she’s blacktype class. Smashed the clock in a trial win a couple of weeks back, she looks wound up to win.

3 Gold Denari (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Roman Emperor mare resuming for Lloyd Kennewell. This girl hasn’t raced since around this time last year where she showed glimpses of brilliant put couldn’t do it on a consistent basis. Been given a really good break and I thought her trial behind Rushwa a couple of weeks ago was pretty good.

5 Alaskan Jade (Bet Now: $8.00) is a horse I could never back to win ever again but she’s burnt me too many times. In saying that, there was market support for her at Morphettville three weeks ago and she worked home okay late behind the very promising Air Guitar. Good record at Gawler and the claim for Finnegan helps.

This looks a perfect race for 10 Nacar (Bet Now: $10.00). He’s been gradually building up his fitness levels and I think this is D-Day. Thought he had them last time out over 1700m at the Bool but was pipped late by stablemate Silver Stratum. Fourth up, down in the weights, there are no excuses for him here. Should be winning.

2 Mail It In (Bet Now: $13.00) was outclassed two back in the Port Adelaide Cup behind Yogi before dropping back in depth and distance a few weeks ago on the Parks track and tried hard to reel in Temps Voleur but that horse had the light weight along with a pretty good run in front. Back to 1700m looks ideal and does have a touch of class on his side.

3 Brown Ben…(Bet Now: $14.00) what’s happened to this horse? He was a Melbourne city class horse once upon a time but has been dreadful this prep, his latest run seeing him finish down the track behind Tried And Tired. Gets the tongue tie on for the first time. Hopefully that will spark some kind of improvement.

9 Superveloce (Bet Now: $6.50) on top for me in what looks a pretty decent 75. He was third up when winning impressively over 1400m in a 64 at Sale, doing a bit wrong in the straight but proving too good. Stable has an unbelievable strike rate when bringing them to SA, and this bloke is lightly raced, with upside, and in winning form.

14 Miss Siska (Bet Now: $1.75) is a definite chance, but even money? No thank you. In saying that, she was dominant in winning last time out over 1400m at Echuca, leading throughout under a lovely on pace steer from Chris Parnham. The time was five seconds slower than the other 1400m race on the day, admittedly a Silver Bowl heat. She can win, but $2, no thanks.

12 Aagas (Bet Now: $31.00) is a Ryan Balfour trained gelding who had good market support at odds a couple of Wednesdays back at Balaklava and under Sakai, he came with a good finishing burst to get the job done. Back in trip is a little query given I think he’ll be better suited over further, but he’s down in the weights, in winning form, with upside.

10 Amberdi (Bet Now: $9.50) looks a really nice type for the Sue Jaensch team, which is flying at the moment. Off the map when resuming at this track/distance last Wednesday and under a confident on speed steer from Raquel Clark, the filly dashed and proved far too good. More depth here, but she has upside and stable just cannot be ignored.

Clinton McDonald has had success in the past when bringing horses to Gawler and he brings 9 Pure Emotion (Bet Now: $5.50) this afternoon. This girl has placed at her last two starts, both on Synthetic at Pakenham and Geelong respectively, where she has been on speed and fought, only going down late. Would love to see Stubby take a sit with her so she can have last say.

5 Bad Wolf (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of So You Think for the Lloyd Kennewell yard who is four weeks between runs since racing over 1300m on the Parks track where he sat off a slow speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite reel in Aspect, who had it too good in front. I reckon back to a fast run 1200m will suit him here.

BEST BET: Race Six Number 10 Nacar

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 1 Nodoubtaboutit

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 10 Amberdi
