Bendigo will host their stand alone meeting this Saturday, with some really nice types engaged across several feature races. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:25) Macedon Lodge Handicap 2400m
Macedon Lodge Handicap and tipping Macedon Lodge to win the race via 2 Harrison (Bet Now: $2.65). He attempted to lead all the way in the Mornington Cup a fortnight back and ran well but just no match for Kings Will Dream, who is being talked up as a serious Caulfield Cup prospect. Third up now at 2400m, hard fit, he should take some beating.
5 Brimham Rocks (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Fastnet Rock gelding who made his Australian debut over 2000m at Mornington a fortnight and I thought he handled himself rather nicely. Race fitness probably beat him in the end as the hard fit Velox just kicked too hard in the straight. Has the run under the belt now and up to 2400m looks perfect.
4 Multitude (Bet Now: $11.00) is a gutsy campaigner for the Waterhouse/Bott team who was on trial for the Sydney Cup last time out in the Manion Cup but he didn’t quite measure up after attempting to lead all the way. Looks well placed back to this level, he should roll along on speed and we have seen recently these stable runners get it cheap in front and kick hard to win.
Race 2. (13:00) Jarrod Larkin Concreting Handicap (70) 1000m
Looks a lovely race for 1 Holy Blade (Bet Now: $4.80). Darren Weir trains this three year old, who is nearly a month between runs since scoring a really good win over 1000m at Sandown against the older horses, charging home with purpose late to grab the win. Start prior he was a game second to the high class filly Demerara. Reads well for this.
2 Superhard (Bet Now: $3.30) is the interesting runner. Henry Dwyer trains this three year old, who is first up here after a three run Spring prep to kick off the career, which ended with a down the track effort at Caulfield behind Bandipur. Two trials leading in have been good, draws well and gets Jamie Mott steering.
12 Redcore (Bet Now: $7.50) took an absolute eternity to break the maiden tag but he finally did it first up here over the 1100m, sitting off the pace before peeling into clear and Thornton rode him out hard to finish best. Time stacked up really well relative to the day and yes, I know he is hard to trust, but hard to ignore the resumption.
Race 3. (13:35) VOBIS Gold Rush 1000m
2 Divine Mr Tycoon (Bet Now: $5.00) is an above average colt for Brendan McCarthy who was a drifter in betting when debuting a couple of Friday nights back at the Valley and I thought his run in defeat was huge when second to Yulong Monoceros. He was the one survivor of the on speed horses. This looks a very winnable assignment for sure.
4 Hiemal (Bet Now: $7.50) is a James Cummings trained colt who has promised a fair bit during his short career but is yet to live up to the hype and boom. Was soft in betting last time out at Warwick Farm and ran accordingly when only beating one runner home behind Lean Mean Machine. The state switch looks ideal and should get firmer footing this time around.
3 Really Swish (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Team Corstens trained youngster who had trialled up well prior to resuming on the Parks track in Adelaide where he got a mile back but finished off with real purpose behind a good one in Music Bay. If he can sit closer in the run, he’s got the turn of foot and finale to go close.
Race 4. (14:10) Avenue Press Handicap 1100m
I’m hoping 3 Lyuba (Bet Now: $4.90) can hold her spot from the inside gate. If she does, I think she’s the one to beat. Quality mare for the Darren Weir team who is first up here. Hasn’t raced since winning impressively down the straight on Derby Day against the mares. She is a bomb when produced fresh and maps super.
8 Ashlor (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Dan McCarthy trained gelding who had no friends in betting when resuming over 955m at the Valley but despite that I thought he ran quite well in defeat behind Our Gladiator, running third. He is a very good fresh horse, so the few weeks between runs looks ideal and up to 1100m a big tick.
5 Princefamous (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Team Snowden trained gelding who is near a month between runs since racing in the Camarena on Black Opal Day at Canberra where he got back in the run and closed off okay late in the piece behind Guard Of Honour. No speed here, so I’d love Moloney to have him on speed and rolling.
Race 5. (14:50) Mypunter.com Handicap (78) 1300m
12 Haski (Bet Now: $5.50) for me. Brent Stanley has this bloke going really well at the moment. He comes through a 1200m race on William Reid Night at the Valley where you could make a case that he should have won. Just had no luck getting clear whereas the eventual winner Maximus had the momentum and that was the difference. Callow on from a good draw, he’ll do me.
1 Amadeus (Bet Now: $8.50) is the class runner of the field and with the claim for Steph Thornton, gee he gets in well. He hasn’t raced since the El Dorado at Wangaratta when fourth to Glenrowan Prince. Widgee Turf has come out of that to win last Saturday, so the form reads very well. Just has to overcome the nasty draw.
6 Recalculate (Bet Now: $27.00) is a talented son of Testa Rossa who resumes for the Colin Scott team, and I suspect there is one eye here and the other on Warrnambool for this horse. He hasn’t raced since early September at the Valley when finishing down the track behind Ebediyin. He is a good fresh horse and has trialled up well leading in.
Race 6. (15:30) Bendigo Gold Bracelet 1400m
I think back in grade, 3 Miss Gunpowder (Bet Now: $10.00) should take some beating. This mare has had two runs back from a spell, both in quality mares races in Sydney, where she ran okay but didn’t measure up. Did trial well leading into the resumption so she had come back well to the eye, so hopefully she can produce it on race day.
9 My True Love (Bet Now: $9.00) is a quality Fastnet Rock mare that resumes for the Waterhouse/Bott team. This mare had a two run Spring prep, placing behind the above average Invincibella first up before being down the track behind Dixie Blossoms in the Angst. First trial was terrible but her second trial was much better and we know she has the quality to measure up.
12 Go Down (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Brendan Hearps trained mare who absolutely loves racing on her home track. She has been racing in town recently and while she hasn’t won, she has performed really, but she did spank them over 1300m here two back. Saves her best for the home track and is finally getting some weight relief.
Race 7. (16:10) Golden Mile 1600m
6 Kiwia (Bet Now: $5.75) for me in a ripping edition of the Golden Mile. This gelding was unwanted in betting when resuming three weeks back at Flemington but he was a real eye catcher when warming to the task late behind Sovereign Nation. He’ll eat up a fast run mile here and he has a stack of upside to come.
11 Wyndspelle (Bet Now: $7.00) is one of the best gallopers in this race. Problem is he hasn’t won for a long time so he is costly to follow. In saying that, his run behind Sovereign Nation at Flemington was a beauty when flashing home from the back to be beaten under a length. Tends to save his best for the mile…gets his chance to win.
10 Observational (Bet Now: $15.00) is a two time winner of this race and is looking for the three peat. Clearly been targeted to produce something near his best here first up and his two trials leading in have been very sharp. Look for him to get a mile back off them and launch late, hopefully well enough to win. Must be included.
Race 8. (16:50) Bendigo Guineas 1400m
1 Overshare (Bet Now: $6.50) looks really well placed here back to his own age. He took on the older horses over 1400m at Flemington last time out where he seemingly had the run of the race behind the speed but just lacked the hard edge to beat the older horses when fifth to Sovereign nation. Perfectly suited at this level and weight no issue. Should take a power of beating.
8 Muraahib (Bet Now: $17.00) looks a crazy price. Really good run two back behind Scarecrow before racing behind Holbein at Flemington where he was back and wide on a day where being on speed/rail was the A1 Spot. If you go on the run behind Scarecrow, he is a leading chance and he draws a super gate.
3 Cao Cao (Bet Now: $15.00) isn’t the most reliable three year old for the Mick Price team but the map says he’ll get the run of the race. He ran over 1200m on William Reid night at the Valley and worked home well late when fourth to True Excelsior. Should take advantage of the inside gate and prove hard to hold out.
Race 9. (17:25) RSN 927 Handicap (90) 1400m
16 My Paisann (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Lisa Enright trained galloper who was kept safe in betting when resuming at Mornington two weeks ago and he worked home well I thought against the slow tempo when fourth to Brahmos. Really good second up record, only 51kg on his back and he’ll be strong late via a hot tempo.
6 Leodoro (Bet Now: $6.50) was nearly a couple of months between runs when contesting the Hareeba a fortnight back at Mornington where he got a fair way back off the speed and worked home strongly late without threatening behind Stellar Collision. Yet to be proven at 1400m but given the form he is in, he deserves another crack.
11 Wayanka (Bet Now: $17.00) had trialled well for Chris Waller prior to resuming over the 1350m at Rosehill where he got a fair way back in an on pace dominated affair and couldn’t come on at all behind Peacock. Has really good form when racing in Melbourne last prep so I’ll include him and perhaps have something on each way.
