Eight races have been set down for Newcastle on Friday for Newcastle Stakes Day. Weather is fine, track is soft (5) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.

8 Literature Tycoon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is short enough but she looks the one to beat. She resumed over 1300m here where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, I did like the way she closed off late in the piece when fifth. Fitter and up in trip, J Collett on, she rates highly.

6 Share The Joy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing well without winning for Team Kearney. Latest run was over 1400m here when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort when second. Racing like 1600m suits and overall, this is a thin race.

2 Kuwait (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is another on speed influence and is one for exotics. He attempted to lead throughout over the mile at Gosford last start and gave a solid kick but just felt the pinch late. Not sure I could back him to win but a must for exotics.

8 She Swings (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the clear value of the two big guns in betting. She was very good at Warwick Farm two back when runner up before going to this track/distance when off speed and wide, but worked home with real purpose when second. If she can use the inside gate to advantage, she takes beating.

5 From The Peak (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Alabama Express that is on debut for the O’Shea/Charlton camp. This girl has had two trials in readiness for the debut and each time has won, seemingly moving quite well I thought. Bred to be good and the Yulong camp aren’t exactly misfiring at present.

4 Eclair Awesome (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the debut run, which came over 1200m at Nowra when on speed and was there to win but perhaps start one, condition just gave way late. Good racing style, better for the run, she appeals.

5 Zizette (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning but not a whole lot of confidence. Gave them a start and a beating to win two back over 1880m here before going to 2100m at Wyong when off speed and kept chasing in a good effort behind Nyota. Tick over trial, she moved well enough and is racing like 2300m suits.

4 Presley (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Latest run was over 1900m at Canterbury where he just lacked the change up speed to go with them late but he stayed on and was a definite pass mark. Up in trip I like and strikes a winnable contest.

2 Wannawinwin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable of an improved showing at odds. She ran over 1800m at Port Macquarie when off speed and kept chasing without threatening behind Yorikiri. She has won at 2250m so 2300m here is no issue and has upside/improvement.

8 Daphnes (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top in what looks an even juvenile contest. Latest run came in the Widden where she found the 1100m a touch sharp but she kept on and was a definite pass mark behind The Playwright. Tick over trial at Hawkesbury looked a decent piece of work and the rise to 1300m suits.

5 Napoleonic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1300m after debuting over 1100m at Warwick Farm when held up at times but she did close off and was quite good in defeat I thought behind King Of Pop. Fitter and up in trip, kind map, he rates highly.

7 Almanzas (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable of an improved showing. He debuted over 1250m at Canterbury where he got too far out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was an eye catcher. Has a gate to settle much closer and be effective late.

9 Golden Smile (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a big price here I feel. Kris Lees trained mare that resumes after a two run Spring prep where she was solid first up but then went to Warwick Farm and was plain. Spelled, given a good break and her trial work to get ready has been very good to my eye. Happy to back her each way.

2 Frontex (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to break the maiden tag. He was very good on debut at Canterbury before going to Kembla when on speed and was there to win but just found a couple better. Hard fit, and I think with a more patient steer, he’ll be more effective.

11 Heavenly Kiss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Both runs have come at Warwick Farm, each time getting back off the speed and finding the line well enough in defeat. Latest run was over 1400m where she was good late without threatening. One for exotics.

4 Ambassadors (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. Nathan Doyle trained gelding that trialled like a rocket prior to resuming at Wyong over 1350m when ridden with intent to land on speed and was there to win but first up, I just think condition gave way late in the piece. Fitter, good racing style, good record at Newcastle, he’s a solid each way gamble.

2 Etched In Time (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will be better for the first up run, which came over 1250m at Canterbury when on speed and he tried hard but condition just gave way late in the piece behind Tenderize. Had trialled well leading in and is suited up in trip. Leading contender.

1 Epicus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) rises to 1500m after racing over 1300m at Hawkesbury. He was quite keen in the run near the speed and was there to threaten but just whacked in the run to the line. He has a good record at Newcastle and rising to 1500m is a tick.

1 Amenable (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the best horse in the race. Just depends on where he is at re fitness levels. He resumes for Price/Kent, having not raced since the Alan Brown during the Spring when down the track behind Here To Shock. Given a good break and his trial work has been strong.

2 Makarena (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is facing her D Day. She resumed in the Millie Fox where the market said it was no betting, she was just too good. But, she was very weak late and could only manage fourth after sitting on speed. She was coming into that off one soft trial so with upside/improvement, class, she can bounce back.

4 Grebeni (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Ryan/Alexiou trained gelding that resumes. He only had one run in the Spring, which came at Eagle Farm over 1400m when off speed and was never a factor behind Yellow Brick. Spelled, trialled well and his best is clearly good enough.

1 Our Empress Zoe (Bet Now:  $SP.00) does tend to get better as the race went on but I reckon she has trialled up like a rocket. She resumes for Price/Kent, having not raced since Oct 12 at Murray Bridge in the Cup when near the speed and just battled late in the piece behind Maracourt. Loved the way she went in a recent trial win and if she’s ready to go, I think she’s a great gamble at odds.

2 Elba (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with her best. Team Freedman trained mare that comes to NSW after doing her racing in Victoria, the latest run at Sandown where she seemingly had her chance and was just fair late in the piece. I’d watch the market and see what it does.

8 Kervette (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1250m here when looking in need of the run and that is how it panned out. Has run well second up previously and her best is good enough to be a threat at odds.
