Nine races will be run and won on the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:06) Adelaide Fest. Of Racing Hcp 1000m
Going the way of 3 Great Leveller (Bet Now: $2.30), a Jon O’Connor first starter by Stratum. This gelding trialled a couple of weeks ago here and I loved the way he moved in the trial, sitting on speed throughout and every time Simon Price gave him some rein, he responded and won quite well in decent enough time. Think he can win on debut.
1 Crown Mint (Bet Now: $3.30) is a son of Hallowed Crown for Gordon Richards that is having start one. He’s had two trials to prepare for his debut, both times seeing him finish second to a filly who I think will be above average on the race track in Rocabella. Stable has a good record with their younger horses, so watch the market with him.
2 Exalted Dennis (Bet Now: $7.00) could run a cheeky race here at start one. Grant Young trains this son of Valentia, who trialled last week at Oakbank and while he was well held when fourth to Rocabella, but he looked to well enough on a tricky track without being fully pressured. Not sure he wins, but can add value to multiples.
Race 2. (13:41) Adelaide Cup Day 9/3 1550m
Think this is a lovely race for the Peter Blanch filly 5 Puissance Dusoleil (Bet Now: $1.90). Paraded like she would need the run when resuming over 1400m here two weeks ago and loved the way she found the line late from the back when third to a progressive one in Perfect Route. Fitter and up to 1550m, she should take a power of beating.
6 Annika (Bet Now: $4.20) should measure up here. Mick Huxtable trains this filly, who was pipped near the peg two back at Murray Bridge before going to Strathalbyn where she led throughout and while she didn’t beat a great deal, she gave them a proper spanking and was impressive. Stable having a good run at the moment and she finds a winnable race.
4 Sowpods (Bet Now: $6.50) is not far off hitting his peak I think. Was okay first up behind the in form Seemingly Discreet before stepping up to 1400m here and working to the line okay without really threatening behind Perfect Route. Think up to 1550m will really suit this guy and if he can sit a bit closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 3. (14:16) Adelaide Galvanising (bm72) 2400m
7 Looking Around (Bet Now: $6.50) isn’t far off a win for Sue Jaensch. Has placed at his past two after a win at Gawler. Last placing saw him finish off strongly to just miss out on picking up Britannicus. Overall, this isn’t the strongest race going around, he’s hard fit and is a horse that once he finds positive form, he holds it, which he is doing at the moment.
4 Light The Waves (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Team McEvoy trained mare that has been racing in decent enough form. On face value, she was poor last time out in the Birthday Cup, but she was wide no cover for the trip and was found to be lame post race, so there were clear excuses. Drops miles in grade/depth this time around and with the claim, she’s very well in.
5 Franked… (Bet Now: $4.40) what to make of him? He was really good two back behind Dark Alley, hence why I thought he was a moral when racing here two weeks ago, but he went like an absolute donkey and was most disappointing behind Eperdument. He’s better than that surely, so have to give him another chance in a very winnable race.
Race 4. (14:56) Metal-link (bm80) 1400m
7 Yankee Eyes (Bet Now: $4.40) has the lightweight and a very soft lead so I’ll lean her way. She ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when on speed and giving a really good kick with a similar set up. Was nabbed late by a very much in form Cosmic Award. That was her first run in nearly two months, so she should have plenty of improvement.
5 Pretty Glass (Bet Now: $3.20) is a quality mare for Sue Jaensch that resumes and I think she can resume a winner for sure without surprising. Has had a long spell, having not raced since May last year when down the track in the Queen Of The South. She’s a Carnival quality horse when right and has tuned up for her return with a sharp trial win at Naracoorte.
4 Nipperkin (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Barry Brook trained mare who had specking at odds when resuming on the course proper here a few weeks ago and I thought she was a definite pass mark, closing off okay late in the piece behind Shamino. Not the best of second up records, so perhaps may need this as well, but she’s got the quality to be around the mark.
Race 5. (15:36) Nutella Palooza At M'ville Mdn 1300m
11 Sheza Little Posh (Bet Now: $2.35) is bursting to win her maiden for Gordon Richards. Pipped near the peg first up in a 3YO benchmark race behind Wotuwant before going to a maiden here two weeks ago and I think with a clear path in the straight, she wins. Instead, she had to duck and weave, diving hard late to just miss. Third up, should be at peak fitness and prove hard to beat.
6 Skilled Wizard (Bet Now: $4.80) is the key and perhaps only real threat to Sheza Little Posh IMO. Comes through the same race as the filly from two weeks ago here and loved the way he closed his race off late in the piece, beaten just under two lengths. If he can hold the back of Sheza Little Posh, he’ll be very dangerous I think.
3 Justedee (Bet Now: $9.00) is suited back to maiden company and up in trip for John Hyam. He ran in a 3YO benchmark race three weeks ago and tried hard, but was outclassed by Seemingly Discreet. Form out of that has been quite good and I think extra ground will really help his cause. Not sure he wins, but is one for exotics.
Race 6. (16:16) Tab Hcp (rs1ly) 1000m
5 Stragun (Bet Now: $11.00) has a really sharp first up record and I’ll bank on him continuing it here. Resumes for Grant Kluske after a somewhat disappointing prep, where he struggled in most runs, but to be fair, he was poorly placed for the most part in some really tough races. Finds a winnable one for his resumption. No trials/jumpouts so watch the market flucs.
This will be the fifth week in a row that 2 Star Of Monsoon (Bet Now: $3.70) will race, so he certainly won’t be lacking fitness. Was really keen on him last Saturday given he had 51kg and was hard fit. But the tempo was just far too slow and considering the leader/winner went a tick over 33 for the final 600m, those from behind had no chance. Can bounce back here.
Interesting that 6 Tintagel Rocker (Bet Now: $13.00) from Port Lincoln on Friday in a very winnable race in preference for this. Was well supported when racing over 1000m at Port Lincoln last time and the bets were landed, sitting in a good spot near the speed and finished best. Gets right down in the weights, hard fit and in form.
Race 7. (16:56) Furphy Hcp (58) 1000m
5 Good Luck Chuck (Bet Now: $7.00) is a lightly raced veteran for Anthony Webster that looks a leading chance here off the back of a really good run over this track/distance two weeks ago when back off a good speed and worked home strongly but couldn’t quite reel in the well supported Miami Freedom. He’s working up to a win I’d suggest and gets his chance here.
1 Lord Varys (Bet Now: $2.30) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but this gelding hasn’t been far away of late. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when near the speed and while he was well held, he was far from disgraced behind Star Of Monsoon. Lands near the speed again and will try hard. I’d include in exotics.
Think 8 Artistic Escape (Bet Now: $11.00) can win again. Grant Kluske trains this mare, who has been doing her recent racing at Port Lincoln and has found some really good form. Was doing that without winning but that changed last time out with a strong win under a lovely ride from Potter. Not the strongest city race this, so think she can measure up.
Race 8. (17:31) Schweppes (bm58) 1300m
11 Fergie (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Sue Jaensch trained mare that had been teasing to win a race this time in and it finally came around last time out over 1100m at Bordertown, leading throughout and giving nothing else a look in a dominant on speed display. Can she do it in town? Stable in recent months has been terrible in town, but this is a winnable race if this mare holds her form.
14 Miracleofmiracles (Bet Now: $13.00) can produce a sharp third up bounce back here. Loved the way he toughed it out to win first up in a Murray Bridge maiden before racing over 1000m here and admittedly was held up for a few strides but overall, he was disappointing behind Miami Freedom. Think she can bounce back for sure.
This is just about last chance territory for 4 Pale Ale (Bet Now: $23.00). He’s been a grand campaigner for a number of years but in recent times, he’s been struggling to fire. This is the easiest race he has contested in some time back and since he has raced in SA, his best form has come on the Parks track, so one more chance in a thin race.
Race 9. (18:10) Aami (bm64) 1550m
Forgive a horse for one poor run they say and I’ll be doing that with 10 Kyshaka (Bet Now: $3.50), who was just too bad to be true four weeks ago on the Parks track. Was back near last in the run and simply never in the hunt in a very disappointing performance, which followed a sharp win at Murray Bridge. Can bounce back here for sure.
8 Happy Street (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Maher/Eustace trained mare who was well fancied in the market when racing here two weeks ago and while on face value she was disappointing, she wasn’t beaten far behind Perfect Command after getting into a really tricky spot in the run. Well in after the claim and does find a very winnable race.
13 Diamond Tycoon (Bet Now: $12.00) is a mare who I have little to no faith in when it comes to being a winning chance, but fresh legs and slightly back in trip, she can be one for multiples. Five weeks between runs since racing over the mile on the course proper when really struggling on the bog surface behind Ethical Solution. Can improve on firmer footing.
