7/1/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gawler

4 Nabbed (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will do me here. Team McEvoy trained mare that resumed over 1200m at Terang and on a day where the track was suiting up/in, she was very good from the back when fourth, clocking some of the better late splits of the meeting. Like her up to 1500m, can settle much closer in the run from the good draw and has change up speed if this is a sit/sprint, which I think it will be.

2 Paramedic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should love the rise to 1500m. He looked a good thing when racing last Wednesday over 1200m at Strathalbyn but he was very one paced when asked by Toeroek and only got warm very late when second to Victory Club. I think that is why a rise in trip will suit and should be suited on the bigger track. With upside, he is one of the hardest to beat I think.

7 Seafaring (Bet Now:  $SP.00) took a while to break the maiden tag but that elusive win came two back at Murray Bridge in good style. He then backed up two days later on Boxing Day at Morphettville and stuck to the task really well in defeat I thought behind a handy one, The Red Kite. He has been up a while but is getting better as the prep goes on and this is a very moderate Class One for a Saturday metro race.

4 Starsongari (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has come back in outstanding order and is hard to beat once again. Looked in trouble three weeks ago at Gawler but Voorham, one of the more in form riders in SA, rode the patient race, got out at the right time and the mare let down with a brilliant finale to score. No reason to suggest why she can’t continue her winning ways.

1 Wonderwomen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks hard to beat for Aaron Bain. This mare was smashed in betting at Morphettville on Boxing Day and despite a few nervous moments late, she knuckled down under Vorster and found when required to win. Gets in really well after the claim and although drawn tricky, she appeals.

3 Miss Langtry (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for David Jolly since racing here where she was given a lovely ride by Neindorf and presented to win in the straight, being hailed as the winner but was nabbed near the peg by a brilliant finale from Starsongari. Hadn’t done much in runs prior so now that she has found positive form, I think she can hold it.

I think this is good placement from Ryan Balfour with 7 Picargo (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Three weeks between runs since a dominant win at this track/distance where he had the suck run behind the speed and was able to get out in plenty of time, drawing clear late to win nicely. Remains down in the weights and gets the map once again, either leading or getting the box seat behind One More Jack. He’ll do me.

3 Extra Time (Bet Now:  $SP.00) hasn’t won in a long time but he is racing really well for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. Ran over 1200m at Murray Bridge two weeks ago in a small field and surged hard late, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to One More Jack. He is a while between wins but the form around him reads well and this race looks well within his reach.

4 Terbium (Bet Now:  $SP.00) appeals here as a threat. He resumed behind Picargo three weeks back in the race mentioned above where he was back near last in the run and the way the track played, I thought he did a good job to finish as close as he did when third to the Balfour horse. Doubt he turns the tables, but small field should see him sit not far away and be strong at the end.

5 Zebella (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep and confident she can make the leap to benchmark grade from maiden company. Backed as if unbeatable when resuming in a maiden at Morphettville on Boxing Day and was ridden like a good thing by Crowther, sending the filly straight to the front and she gave nothing else a look in, winning comfortably. Trialled up like a bomb leading, so happy to be in her corner here.

3 Midnight Rush (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. Ran two weeks ago at Murray Bridge where he attempted to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick but was no match late for the finale produced by a handy animal, Validated. That was his first look at 1200m and that just looked to tell very late when tiring. Has that run under the belt now, so he should be stronger at the end.

8 Soames (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is probably on the life ban list of punters, and he’s close with me, but hard fit and getting to a bigger track can see him run an improved. $1.20 favourite at Strathalbyn last time in a maiden and just didn’t appear to handle the track at all when third. The first up run behind Tapinforpar was a good effort and certainly that is a decent enough form line to measure up here.

4 Max Fire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be absolutely flying for Travis Doudle. He resumed at Strathalbyn when three and four wide no cover for the trip and was entitled to knock right up but he kept finding the line and was quite game in defeat when third to Kayseri. Excellent second up record and if there is any petrol left in the tank, he’ll take beating against this lot.

1 Eagles Forever (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and run a bold race I am sure. Pattern helped him at Gawler last time but there was good fight shown by him. He was big odds and was under pressure early, but he found when required and was too good for them in a blanket finish. The form prior was so so. Was last start a one off or has he turned the corner? With his pattern, he’ll get every chance.

3 Getouttheway (Bet Now:  $SP.00) saves his best for Gawler and commands respect here. He ran here three weeks back here where he did a good job really given the track pattern was clearly against him but didn’t mind the way he found the line late when third to Ammo Amor, who won last Saturday to frank the form. That was his first run in six weeks, so there is room for improvement.

8 Aussie Sojourn (Bet Now:  $SP.00) deserves another chance for Team Blanch. She was a real eye catcher from the back two starts ago behind Residue before going to Morphettville again on Boxing Day where the race shape and track pattern was clearly against her, and really, she actually did a really good job to get as close as she did. Hopefully gets a more genuine tempo this time and with a fairer track, touch wood, she’s the one.

7 Lord Wonder (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to follow and trust with confidence but this looks well within his reach. Narrow third two back at Gawler before going to Morphettville on Boxing Day and wasn’t really suited given the track pattern, beaten just under three lengths by The Red Kite. He has been teasing to win a race this time in and this looks very thin race for him to get that elusive win.

4 Kyshaka (Bet Now:  $SP.00) isn’t far off a win for Peter Hardacre and can certainly take this out. She ran on Boxing Day at Morphettville where she was tucked in behind the slow speed so she was entitled to kick on in the straight and that she did when third to Street Culture. I do think she is better ridden with a sit and off a genuine speed so will be interesting what the tactics are but fourth up, she should be hard fit.

3 Secret War (Bet Now:  $SP.00) saves his best for Gawler so with that in mind, he gets a look. Far from disgraced fresh at Morphettville Parks behind Rodeo before going to 900m at Murray Bridge where he did far too much work on speed and tired late behind My Ruby. 1200m is on the extreme side for him but with his racing style, he’ll give a stack of cheek and if this track is playing up/in, he’ll take running down.

4 Lope De Wolf (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for the Francis/Kent and hopefully he can translate his Balaklava form to Gawler. Last couple of starts have seen him win, both at Balaklava, and each time he has finished off with real purpose in dynamic wins. Hasn’t fired a shot in three runs at Gawler but the way he is racing, he deserves a look at the track and this is a winnable Saturday metro race.

1 Capricorn Ridge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Matty Seyers trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since August 21 when racing over 2000m at Bordertown and worked home pretty well late without threatening behind Neva Doubt Us. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and does have a liking for Gawler. Better suited over further, but I’d watch the market and see what it does with him.

Looks a race in two. I am leaning towards 4 Heir Of Tavistock (Bet Now:  $SP.00), who looks your leader. He was there to be beaten three weeks ago here when he copped heat on speed but he was able to fend them off and kick strongly for a narrow and game win. He should find the front comfortably and while the threat is on his back, he has the ticker to fend them off and fight for the win.

8 Metro Legend (Bet Now:  $SP.00) appeals. He was backed with confidence a fortnight back at Murray Bridge where he was on speed throughout and showed good fight in the straight, only getting nabbed near the peg by a hard fit and in form Saskatoon. He was 1200m to 1400m so he has the room for improvement and the better grounding now, down in the weights, he can take this out.

Fitter and up to 1500m are two big ticks for 2 Run For Glory (Bet Now:  $SP.00). This guy had his first run for David Jolly three weeks back over 1200m here and I thought it was a sneaky good run against the pattern behind Picargo. Might want one more, but that was a pretty good run from him and overall, the depth here is nowhere near as strong.

6 Huntley Lady (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a progressive mare for David Jolly that will be launching late. Market said she was a good thing when resuming at Balaklava and the race panned out perfectly. She sat back off a fast speed, presented clear air and she let down with a brilliant finale to win impressively with something in hand. The set up this time around looks similar and with upside, she appeals.

10 Miss Miduki (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Searle/Callanan trained mare that appeals here. She was smashed in betting at Morphettville on Boxing Day and had her chance, getting the suck run behind the speed and was there to threaten but was no match late for a quality mare in Our Heidi. Fast run 1100m should suit and with luck from a potentially tricky gate, she’ll be strong at the end.

5 Devil’s Rain (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a break for Mark Webb and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran over 1200m at Morphettville on Boxing Day where he got back in the run and worked to the line pretty well without threatening behind Wonderwomen, but was beaten just over two lengths. I reckon a fast run 1100m will suit him and with the 1200m run under the belt, that holds him in good stead for this you’d think.

BEST BET: Race Nine Number 6 Huntley Lady

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 4 Nabbed

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 8 Aussie Sojourn
