A solid nine event meeting has been assembled for Doomben this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:28) Droughtmaster 60Th Anniv.-Bm72 1200m
I’m very keen to see 2 Hang Five (Bet Now: $3.70) resume for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. Son of Astern that resumes and no doubt in my mind had he stayed in training, he would have measured up in the Sires and JJ Atkins. Quality animal with enormous upside and looked great in a trial win last week. Potentially heads to Sydney/Melbourne, so keen to see how he goes here. I think he’ll resume with a win.
1 Spiritualised (Bet Now: $1.45) looks the only real threat. He has the hard fitness under the belt and brings with him solid form after looking home at Eagle Farm last time, only to get nabbed right on the peg by Honey Pot. If he leads and gets control, he could take catching.
3 Mishani Persusasion (Bet Now: $18.00) should be better suited on top of the ground. He raced on testing ground here two weeks back and struggled to pick his feet up in the conditions behind All That Pizzazz. Should get a lovely run from the gate and is a must for wider multiples.
Race 2. (12:03) Fonzie Abbott Coffee Cup-Bm78 2000m
4 Without Thinking (Bet Now: $3.30) has been a model of consistency this time in but wasn’t winning. That all changed a few weeks back at Eagle Farm, getting a suck run behind the speed before getting the split and driving hard late to win. If he can build off that, he’s hard to beat.
8 Red Light Roxanne (Bet Now: $4.60) looks suited up in trip for Nat McCall. Last couple of runs have come at the mile, the latest being here last Wednesday when knuckling down strongly from off the speed to score, nailing Mark The Horse late. Has placed at the trip before, so the rise to it here should be fine.
I’m not dropping off 2 Shepard (Bet Now: $19.00). Just needed the run fresh behind Class Of Royalty at Ipswich before going to the mile where he was never a threat to Bottega, but was good late. Might want one more, but when he was in Victoria, he did have class/quality to win a race like this.
Race 3. (12:38) The Neilsen Group (Bm72) 1110m
7 Just Field (Bet Now: $6.00) looks the good thing on the program. This appears to be such good placement by Damien Lane, with this mare producing some strong efforts in Sydney on wet ground, something she hates compared to firmer footing, which is what she’ll get here. If the inside gate isn’t a negative, it’ll be a case of good luck beating her.
8 Self Indulgent (Bet Now: $3.40) is a handy mare for Tony Gollan that resumes. She hasn’t raced since March 5 at Toowoomba when producing an end of prep run, finishing last to Prince Of Boom. Form prior was quite sound but to me, she did seem a short course horse, so resuming at 1110m I do like and she’s trialled well.
5 Rich Lister (Bet Now: $4.80) is a daughter of Rich Enuff that resumes for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp and I think can be dangerous. Her last run came on March 19 at the Gold Coast when 1.4L away from Brilliantly, confirming a significant late betting drift. Races well on the fresh side and loves Doomben.
Race 4. (13:13) Trilby Misso Lawyers (Bm72) 1110m
7 Land Of Valens (Bet Now: $5.00) is a son of Valentia for the Ryan/Alexiou that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Feb 18 under the lights at Canterbury when leading and feeling the pinch late behind Rhythmic Pulse. Looked strong in a recent trial and can sprint well fresh, so watch the market.
8 Miracle Day (Bet Now: $6.00) can bounce back into the winners list. He ran over this track/distance a fortnight back where he got a fair way off the speed and pretty much was no winning hope but liked the way he closed his race off behind Proper Rogue. Hard to beat with a more positive steer.
14 Iring (Bet Now: $13.00) is racing in a purple patch. Somewhat arrogant win two back during the Grafton Carnival before racing three weeks back where he got a fair way out of his ground but was good late when third to dominant winner Proper Rogue. Like him as a horse and hopefully he can settle closer in the run.
Race 5. (13:48) Ntl Jockeys Celebration Day-C6 1600m
4 Ocean Treaty (Bet Now: $3.80) is in for a good prep. O’Dea/Hoysted trained mare that resumed over 1350m here several weeks ago and was very good from the back, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to a tough nut in Wham. Excellent second up record and getting to 1600m, I think she’s the one to beat.
3 Don’t Stop (Bet Now: $5.50) is a query at the mile but gate one should help the cause. He ran oer 1350m here a fortnight back and closed off strongly late, just missing out on the win when a narrow third to Oakfield Twilight. Gets a cheap run from gate one and is better suited on a firmer deck.
1 Milk Man (Bet Now: $14.00) is nine years of age but is still maintainin a healthy zest for racing. He ran two weeks back here where he got a fair way out of his ground but worked to the line well enough when third to Puntura. If he can settle closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous at odds.
Race 6. (14:27) Granddad Jack's (Bm85) 1350m
Happy to back 8 Broken Hero (Bet Now: $7.50) each way. This guy has really come of age in recent times. Once upon a time, he would struggle beyond 1000m, but in recent times, he has changed that thought process. Spank job win two back over the mile here before racing in the same set up two weeks ago where he led and fought on well when fourth to Puntura. Back to 1350m, he’ll jump on the bunny and run a bold race.
4 Joviality (Bet Now: $3.10) seems to be enjoying life in Queensland. She’s had a couple of runs in this part of the world, two back running third to Wham before a strong win two weeks ago, geting a beaut steer from Orman and finished best to win. She’s becoming genuine and is a key threat.
1 Giannis (Bet Now: $4.80) is a massive watch. Quality three year old for Chris Waller that resumes, having not raced since Feb 19 when down the track at Rosehill behind impressive winner Sky Lab. He’s had two trials to get ready, the latest coming last Tuesday, so he’s got the fitness base to run a forward race fresh. Watch the market.
Race 7. (15:07) Navaska Facilites M'ment-Rs1mw 1200m
I think firmer footing is a big tick for 3 Edit (Bet Now: $4.80). I was actually surprised he ran as well as he did last time on a Heavy9 at the Sunny Coast when a fast finishing second to Renouf, a track specialist. Back on top of the ground and now with positive form, he’ll take beating.
15 Manhood (Bet Now: $1.65) is a promising colt for Annabel Neasham that is 2/2 since joining the stable. Made a mess of them fresh at the Gold Coast before going to Doomben where he stepped up to 1200m and while he didn’t beat much, he made a mess of them. Hard to beat against this lot.
14 Thunder Mania (Bet Now: $34.00) is a Symons/Laxon trained gelding that hasn’t quite set the world on fire in recent times, but the small field and ideal map helps his cause. Didn’t fire here at the midweeks last time behind Hot Spring Gold, and while I doubt he beats this lot, the soft run could see him pinch a first four spot.
Race 8. (15:47) Place Ascot + Nundah Hcp 1200m
12 Snowzone (Bet Now: $4.60) is a talented animal for Kris Lees that commands respect. Game second to Conscript two back at Randwick before backing up a week later at Rosehill where they rode him with a sit and he was solid late when close up behind The Big Easy. Right down in the weights, and with a liking for this track, he’s the bet each way.
8 Garibaldi (Bet Now: $3.80) is a very hard horse to catch for Tony Gollan but he has the engine under the hood to take this out. Far from disgraced two back in the Healy before racing at Doomben several weeks back where things didn’t exactly fall into place for him and was solid late. Back on a firmer deck, he is at D-Day.
10 Boomtown Lass (Bet Now: $9.50) is three weeks between runs for Chris Anderson since racing over 1200m at Eagle Farm where she was near the speed throughout and battled away really well when fourth to surprise winner Tokoriki Lad, who ran well last Saturday, so the form reads well.
Race 9. (16:23) Brothers Rugby Club Hcp (78) 1350m
17 Enterprise Mia (Bet Now: $7.00) is a talented mare for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. Gave them a spanking two back at Doomben before going to the Sunny Coast Poly where I am not sure she was entirely happy on the surface but class got her home. Back on the turf, and given how well she’s racing, she’ll do me in the get out.
14 Love Sensation (Bet Now: $5.00) is close to life ban stage, but she is a mare with talent and is certainly good enough to take this out. I was keen on her here a few weeks back, as was the market, but she got stuck on the fence and didn’t really fire. Whether she was happy inside horses, not sure, but she has a touch of class.
11 Swanston (Bet Now: $14.00) is bursting to win a race for Greg Kilner. He led throughout and won here two weeks ago, but lost the race on protest, shifting in under pressure and taking the run that Oakfield Twilight had. Good record at the track, he is hard to beat, especially with a versatile racing pattern.
