Back Me

Tricky juvenile race to start the Carnival. I think 8 Verbek (Bet Now:Β $4.80) has the right form around him to give this a shake. Team Price trains this son of Turn Me Loose, who debuted at Newcastle back on Feb 18 when back and chasing strongly late when fourth to Larkspur Run. Resumes without a trial and stable gets Tommy to steer.

Danger

1 Mortal Witness (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is a Hayes/Dabernig trained filly that was a sharp winner at this track/distance on Prelude Day. Sat on speed throughout before McDougall clicked her up and away she went. She was dominant and despite rising in the weights, she has race fitness and the right racing pattern.

Long Shot

2 Impact Star (Bet Now:Β $4.50) looks to have his share of talent. Resumed in a pretty thin 2YO race at Port Macquarie it has to be said, but he had to take advantage of that, and he did, drawing clear late after sitting off the speed. Has a tricky draw to overcome, but I think is a definite winning chance.

Race 2. (12:55) NSW Racehorse Owners Association Maiden Handicap 1400m

Back Me

6 Grand Palazzo (Bet Now:Β $2.90) on top for me. Team Price trains this daughter of All Too Hard and she should love the rise to 1400m. Both runs back from a spell have come over 1200m at Kembla, the latest seeing her work home with purpose late in the piece behind In De Sun Iwilcome. Gets Tommy to steer and should prove hard to hold out late.

Danger

8 Berenib (Bet Now:Β $3.40) should appreciate the rise in trip. This filly was a notable drifter in betting when debuting over 1200m at Pakenham. But despite that, I didn’t mind her finale and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Morecoruba. Like her up in trip and stable generally fire at Wagga.

Long Shot

10 Madhmoonah (Bet Now:Β $34.00) is a knockout chance. Michael Travers trains this filly, who was big odds when racing over 1200m here last time out, but she was a real eye catcher from the back when a closing third. Like her up to 1400m and they will put the Blinkers back on to sharpen her up.

Race 3. (13:30) Budget Truck Rentals Wagga Plate (Mdn/C1) 1600m

Back Me

2 Battenburg (Bet Now:Β $4.20) has too much class for these surely? Lot of guts about his win fresh over 1200m at Goulburn. Then went straight to the mile at Scone where he was found out late, but I thought the set up was ordinary that particular day. Much better suited here and I think third up, hard fit, he’s the pony to beat.

Danger

12 Kermatin (Bet Now:Β $3.60) is lightly raced and showing promise. Thought there was a bit of dominance about her win at this track/distance last time out. Sat off the speed before presenting wider and she came clear to win and win well. Harder here, but like the way she is going about it.

Long Shot

5 Kitzbuhel (Bet Now:Β $4.50) is lightly raced and showing promise. Thought there was a bit of dominance about her win at this track/distance last time out. Sat off the speed before presenting wider and she came clear to win and win well. Harder here, but like the way she is going about it.

Race 4. (14:10) Elders Home & Commercial Finance Mdn Hcp 1000m

Back Me

Having a bit of a throw at the stumps here in the shape of 12 Kee Kee Mofeed (Bet Now:Β $34.00), resuming for Gary Colvin. She had two runs here in the Autumn to start her career, and I think they were more or less prep runs. She was very green and new to the caper, not exactly setting the world on fire, but her second run, she closed off okay. Gets in nicely after the claim, and with the prep under the belt, she should improve.

Danger

9 After Dinner (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is a daughter of Choisir for Kurt Goldman that resumes. This girl debuted at Bathurst back in May last year when a closing fourth behind Land Of Valens in a race that rated quite well for the meeting. Just one soft trial to get ready, but stable gets Tommy Berry and Blinkers on signals intent.

Long Shot

14 Old Man Emu (Bet Now:Β $13.00) can sneak a first four spot. He has placed his last two, his lone to placings in a 19 start career, so at least he is in career best form. Had a good sit behind the speed at Canberra last time and battled on pretty well in defeat. Gets a suck run once again, so one for exotics.

Race 5. (14:55) Byrne Trailers Handicap (66+) 1600m

Back Me

I’ll side with 4 Black Wand (Bet Now:Β $15.00). He is a Blinkers horse and they are back on for this third up assignment. He has contested a couple of strong Federals at Canberra to start the prep and while he hasn’t set the world on fire, he hasn’t been terrible by any means. This looks a thin race and we know his best is better than these. Plus the booking of Nash. he’ll take no BS from this horse.

Danger

7 Shenandoah (Bet Now:Β $2.80) looks ready to win. Keith Dryden trained gelding that was a few weeks between runs when racing over the mile at Canberra last time. Thought McDougall gave him a peach and he was there to win. Just felt the pinch late and was nabbed by Larmour. He’ll come on from that and is a leading chance.

Long Shot

8 Accoy (Bet Now:Β $9.00) is a Team Price trained mare that is second up here and I think can be dangerous at a price. Resumed over 1400m on Anzac Day on the Kenso track where she was back near last in an on pace dominated affair. Never a winning threat, but her finale was more than sound. Fitter and up in trip, could easily have something on her at big odds.

Race 6. (15:35) Daily Advertiser Handicap (66) 2000m

1×3 at $20, 11 Larmour (Bet Now:Β $13.00) is a bet here for sure. Nick Olive trained mare that was at the crossroads in her career a few runs ago. Stable gave her a freshen up and the result was a strong win over the mile at Canberra last time. Really liked the way she knuckled down to finish the race off when challenged. Fitter and up to 2000m, she appeals.

Danger

I can understand why 16 Himiko (Bet Now:Β $3.30) is going around favourite in early betting given she does have upside and solid form lines about. Her last start win though? Not sure. She got the job done, but only just, in a race where the depth was on the thin side. But, she’s got improvement and gets Rachel King to steer.

Long Shot

7 Devil Dan (Bet Now:Β $10.00) should be suited up in trip. Both runs this time in have come over 1400m and is proven at 2000m+, so I like him here up in distance. Forgive the latest run at Nowra when wide no cover and tiring late after doing work. Knockout chance with a better run in transit.

Race 7. (16:15) Wagga Town Plate 1200m

Back Me

Gee I’m surprised there was/is nearly double figures for 1 Handle The Truth (Bet Now:Β $10.00). He has this lot covered re class. On paper, the 1200m might seem on the short side, but there is a stack of speed engaged here, and he does come here off a 400m run, so fitness will be no issue, and is a proven weight carrier.

Danger

3 Southern Lad (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is a handy sprinter for John O’Shea that resumes. He has been given a decent freshen up, having not raced since the Southern Cross at Randwick when leading and giving an almighty sight, just no match late for Masked Crusader. Trials leading in have been strong and looks primed to go one better from last year.

Long Shot

11 Prairie Fire (Bet Now:Β $41.00) lacks the class of some of these, but he’ll get a cracking speed in front to sit back and launch late. That is when he races best, as seen last start on Orange Cup Day, charging late from the back fro the back to win and win well. I think $26+ is more than acceptable and happy to speck each way.

Race 8. (16:50) Inglis Digital Handicap (Class 2) 1400m

Back Me

I have no idea what to do here. Very hard race to close out the meeting. The straight bat option is 7 Kibosh (Bet Now:Β $4.50) for John Thompson. Both runs back from a spell have come at Canberra, with the filly breaking the maiden tag last time out in impressive fashion after sitting on speed and kicking clear late. Form out of that reads well and the rise to 1400m should suit.

Danger

5 Pontmain (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is the most fascinating runner on the program. Tim Donnelly trains this gelding, who hasn’t raced since Feb 2019 when placing in a Highway at Randwick. Has obviously had his issues…the trial? I thought it was okay, without being great, but obviously after such a long lay off, market is the best guide.

Long Shot

11 Come Get Me (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is racing quite well at the moment for Phil Sweeney. Market smashed her when she ran at Albury last time out and once Brooke Sweeney gave her a click up, away she went and she was dominant, landing the big bets. Harder here, but racing well and is a threat.
