A bumper nine race card has been set down for Randwick this Saturday, highlighted by the $2 Million Inglis Millennium (1100m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:00) Darley Lonhro Plate 1000m
Really surprised that 12 Testimonial (Bet Now:Β $5.50 TOP ODDS) isn’t favourite. If you like her here, which I do, then have something on her in the Slipper all in. She looks a really good filly. Debuted in the Victory Vein on Everest Day and her late splits were very good behind Captivant, another horse I like for the Slipper. Trials leading in have been super and a fast run 1000m looks perfect.
It’ll be interesting to see if 1 Conexy (Bet Now:Β $4.60 TOP ODDS) has enough brilliance to measure up to these. Chris Waller trained colt that had two runs in Brisbane to start his career, both at Doomben, placing on debut before getting the Blinkers next time and proving too good for Baby Wong. How strong is that form? Not sure, but he should be strong late.
I’m very interested in 6 Retrieval (Bet Now:Β $9.00 TOP ODDS), a well bred colt for James Cummings that debuts. Had a two trial prep in the Spring without racing. Spelled and has had two trials to get ready for start one here, the latest coming over 1045m at Randwick when closing off nicely between runners. Keen to see how he goes and what the market does with him.
Race 2. (13:35) Tab Highway Hcp (c3) 1200m
A few of these are using this as a lead up towards a Country Championships Qualifier, including 1 Another One (Bet Now:Β $2.45 TOP ODDS), a three year old gelding I have a lot of time for. Far from disgraced two back in a Rosehill Highway before running here in a Highway where he was ridden much more positively and the result was a dominant win. Tick over trial was sharp and I think he’s hard to beat here, as well as the Country Championships.
9 Joey’s Chance (Bet Now:Β $16.00 TOP ODDS) is racing very well at the moment for Rod Northam. Two back was a closing third to subsequent city winner Dame Kiri before going a Highway here and finishing off with purpose late when fourth to Pinnacle Prince. He’ll get back and look to finish over the top.
4 Lady Demi (Bet Now:Β $14.00 TOP ODDS) is a talented daughter of Denman for Terry Robinson that resumes and you always have to respect the stable when they send them around in a Highway. Hasn’t raced since October 17 when somewhat unlucky in a Highway here behind Air Marshal. No trials to get ready but 1200m fresh tells me she’s ready to go.
Race 3. (14:10) Heineken (bm94) 1000m
Jump and run, I hope, is the plan for 2 Spaceboy (Bet Now:Β $5.00 TOP ODDS). All of his recent efforts have come at 1100m/1200m and has run well without winning, his latest effort being a fourth in the Christmas Classic behind Eleven Eleven. His 1000m record is sharp, he likes wet ground so a drop of rain won’t hurt…think he only runs well.
6 Written Beauty (Bet Now:Β $1.35 TOP ODDS) is a classy filly that resumes for Team Hawkes, but I just question will they be too sharp for her fresh with eyes towards better races. Did an outstanding job in the Spring, winning 3/3, including a Group lll win on Oaks Day at Flemington. Trialled like a jet earlier this week. Just not sure about her if the track has genuine give in it.
7 Zaniah (Bet Now:Β $9.00 TOP ODDS) has quality in her own right. Kris Lees trained mare that resumes after a pretty strong Spring prep where although she didn’t win, gee she ran some good races in high class Mares events. Seems best suited over the short course and has trialled well leading in. A win wouldn’t totally shock.
Race 4. (14:45) Ranvet (bm78) 1300m
I’m the leading member of the 8 April Rain (Bet Now:Β $1.90 TOP ODDS) fan club. I think she’ll be Stakes class in the not too distant future so with that in mind, she wins here and wins well. Both starts/wins this prep have come at Canterbury and admittedly, has beaten relatively nothing, but it’s the manner and arrogance of the wins that have impressed me. Really keen to see her on a big track.
4 Starla (Bet Now:Β $8.50 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win a race this prep. Chris Waller has her flying but a combo of bad luck and a bad racing pattern is ensuring she keeps finding one or two better. That was the case at Rosehill a few weeks ago when back and launching late when second to a very progressive animal in Private Eye.
That reads well for this. 2 Outback Diva (Bet Now:Β $15.00 TOP ODDS) looks to be going super for the Freedman camp. Both runs back from a spell have come. Somewhat luckless fresh behind Dunbrody Power before stepping up to 1400m when wide no cover and battling on gamely when third to Le Lude. Better luck this time around and she can win.
Race 5. (15:20) Inglis Millennium 1100m
With already a tick under $70,000 in the bank, 1 Profiteer (Bet Now:Β $1.60) is already assured a start in the Blue Diamond, so really, this is a free hit at a $2 Million race and it’s a hit that I think will be successful. Enthaar is regarded by many as the #1 seed for the juveniles so far this season, but I reckon this guy isn’t far off her. He smashed the clock and was arrogant in winning on debut at Flemington, and his recent trial win at Rosehill was just brilliant. Keen on his chances.
If you want a place bet, I’d be having it on 10 Mystic Gem (Bet Now:Β $26.00). Not sure she beat a great deal when debuting at Doomben two weeks ago but I loved the way she found the line when eventually clear, finishing best to win and running good late splits. She’ll be strong at the end and a win wouldn’t entirely shock.
13 Hi Hi Hi (Bet Now:Β $19.00) is an interesting runner. Gary Portelli trained filly that was big odds when debuting at Canterbury and she spanked them from the front in what looked a strong effort. Not sure she beat much, but she looks to have the right racing pattern to give herself every chance.
Race 6. (15:55) Eskimo Prince Stks 1200m
Not surprised there has been early interest at odds for 8 Tommy Gold (Bet Now:Β $9.00). I think there is enough evidence to suggest he prefers wet ground over dry, so I’m happy to be on each way. Resumes for John O’Shea and does have residual fitness. Two trials have been super, he’ll sit off a fast speed and be very strong late. Hard to beat.
3 North Pacific (Bet Now:Β $1.90) is a top class colt for Team Hawkes that resumes. He has been kept on ice, having not raced since the Golden Rose where he was beaten narrowly by stablemate Ole Kirk in a thrilling finish. His trials to get ready have been great, proven performer at Randwick and first up last prep he won with arrogance.
5 On The Lead (Bet Now:Β $16.00) looks to have his share of talent and is more than capable of measuring up to these. Team Freedman trains him, who somewhat came of age when last in work, highlighted by a second to Wile Ruler in the Roman Consul at this track/distance. Just one trial to get ready, but he can be explosive when he gets conditions to suit.
Race 7. (16:35) Inglis 3yo Sprint 1200m
I’m siding with 1 Ole Kirk (Bet Now:Β $2.40). They could have resumed in the Eskimo Prince, or even the Group l CF Orr, but with the prizemoney on offer here, it was hard to turn away. He is a top class colt being a multiple Group l winner and even though he has bigger fish to fry, class will carry him a long way.
10 Dame Giselle (Bet Now:Β $3.90) is a high quality filly for Team Snowden that is first up. I do hope they train her as a 1200m/1400m horse and not aim for further. We saw in the Spring that over the sprint trips, she can be quite dynamic, provided she found firm ground, so weather will be the key, but her trials indicate she’s ready to go.
6 Osamu (Bet Now:Β $23.00) finished down the track in the Millennium last year, but now with Annabel Neasham, he looks to have come back well and appears on target for this race. Resumed two weeks ago here and was good late when getting clear and closing off when second to The Face. He’ll be strong at the end.
Race 8. (17:15) Davali Thoroughbreds Cup 1600m
Have to be with 8 All Time Legend (Bet Now:Β $1.75). Most were lighting up the torches and having pitchforks at the ready in aim for McEvoy after his ride on this horse two weeks ago here. I was keen on the horse and said pre race that he would be more effective with cover, so I was glad he took the trail. Problem was a run didn’t eventuate until it was all over. Should have won but can make amends here.
Really keen to see 7 Mount Popa (Bet Now:Β $3.90) resume, and I think he’ll be right first up. Resumes for Team Hawkes, having not raced since June 20 when bolting up over 2000m at Randwick. He looks a really good prospect and his trial to get ready, especially through the line, was outstanding.
Can make a case here for 5 Sikandarabad (Bet Now:Β $31.00) to run well. He has had two runs back from a spell. Resumed over the mile at Eagle Farm when down the track behind The Harrovian. Came back to 1400m in the Carrington and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up ground. Now back up in trip, he can be dangerous.
Race 9. (17:55) The Agency Real Estate (bm78) 1600m
If there was an all in market for the Australian Derby, my first bet would be on 12 Sky Lab (Bet Now:Β $5.00). He looks a really good prospect for Paul Perry who is heading towards the Derby. The good ones can win over unsuitable trips and that is what he did fresh at Wyong over 1350m, sitting wide no cover and dashing clear. He is a beauty and really keen to see him in town.
Matty Vella has some big plans for 6 Blaze A Trail (Bet Now:Β $2.80). I doubt he can reach those heights, but he kicked off his prep in pretty good style three weeks ago when sitting back off the speed and chasing strongly when second to Tycoonist. He’s got upside to come and up to 1600m, he’s very likeable.
8 Zing (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is a key threat for me. Chris Waller trained mare that has run over this track/distance her past two, leading throughout to win two back before being dragged back from the wide gate a fortnight ago and working home strongly behind Invinciano. If she can sit closer in the run, she’ll be dangerous.
