Race 1. (13:18) Sky Racing Hcp 2000m
7 Naval Commission (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key chance for Ciaron Maher after racing at this track/distance last start. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a good sight from the front but had no answers late for stablemate Mr Buster. Good racing style, he appeals.
2 Diablo Bolt (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 2000m after resuming over 1800m at Eagle Farm four weeks ago where the race shape was not to his liking at all and he couldn’t get involved behind Cavalry Man. Fitter and up in trip, better race shape, he’ll only run well I say.
5 Speycaster (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran last to Cavalry Man four weeks back at Eagle Farm and just forgive/forget the run given he was last throughout and couldn’t get involved at all. He’s a handy stayer when right so I wouldn’t be dismissing him.
Race 2. (13:53) Become A Brc Member (Bm78) 1350m
16 Alectrona (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will do me each way. Team Munce trained mare that ran three weeks ago at this track/distance when on speed and tried hard but had no answers for the change up speed of Ready To Schipp. Lands in a plum spot from the gate and gets in really well after the claim.
9 Cosmo Centaurus (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is too good of a horse to dismiss off one plain run. He was heavily supported at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago. He seemingly had every chance but just whacked in the run to the line when third to Poster Girl. I do think he is racing like a rise in trip will suit and the depth here, as a whole, isn’t deep.
8 Chief Witness (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but comes here as a last start winner, that win coming four weeks back at Eagle Farm. He got into a lovely spot just behind the speed before angling clear and really knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. Hard to beat I say.
Race 3. (14:28) Country Stampede (Final) 1110m
12 Magical Slipper (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps. Bevan Johnson trained mare that ran in the Qualifier at Roma where she just got too far out of her ground and while she was never threatening, she kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat I thought. She’ll sit off the good speed and launch at them late.
8 Smiling Zac (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a veteran for Mark Currie that is racing in pretty good form at present. He ran at Gympie a couple of weeks ago when second to Diggity, and on raw times, it looks awful, but then you see the weights and it had to carry 67.5kg. Serious weight relief, big rider upgrade, he’s in the mix.
9 Soopat (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will potentially be gasping for air the last 150m, but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance. He attempted to lead throughout at Roma but tired and felt the pinch late in the piece. Not sure he will see it out and win but can run first four at a price.
Race 4. (15:03) Moreton Hire (Bm85) 1600m
4 Blazen Boots (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was somewhat of a surprise winner a few weeks ago at this track/distance. I will say though, he got an all time ride by Thompson from the gate, slicing his way through the field late to drive hard and get the win. Confidence is up, he can win again.
8 Northern Decree (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was just under a couple of months between runs when racing over this track/distance a few weeks back. He got into a lovely spot just off the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when third to Blazen Boots. Better for the run, he is a key chance.
6 Wapiti (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came at the Sunny Coast two weeks back over 1400m where he just found them a bit sharp but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Band Of Brothers. He’s in with a shout at odds.
Race 5. (15:38) Country Cups Challenge (Final) 1600m
I think 11 Journalism (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the better gambles across the program. I think Lachie Manzelmann has this gelding absolutely flying at present. I think he wins at Mackay last time if Aidan Holt just went a touch earlier on him. He got going late and charged, just missing out on the win. He’ll love a truly run mile, gets serious weight relief and will be strong late.
1 Skyforger (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) won this race two years ago and was midfield in the race last year. He comes into crack number three off the back of a sharp effort in the Roma Cup when giving them a start and a beating to win and win well. Proven weight carrier who maps nicely and commands respect.
13 Odegaard (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran third in the same Mackay race that Journalism contested. Holt on Journalism waited to get going because he kept Odegaard in a pocket and this gelding didn’t really get the clearest of paths in the straight, finishing off nicely late when eventually clear. He’s in the mix.
Race 6. (16:17) Phelan Ready 2Yo 1110m
I said before his debut three weeks ago that 1 Itchintogo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was the #1 seed for the locals re Magic Millions, and I won’t be shying away from that. On paper, he was plain on debut when second, but he led over 1200m off one trial and I think condition just gave way. Fitter, back to 1110m, firm deck, he’ll take a power of beating I’d suggest.
6 Snitska (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Snitzel colt that debuts for Chris Waller. He trialled at the Gold Coast and went like a rocket to my eye when winning and did it very easily with something in hand. Kept on ice with the Magic Millions in mind, watch betting.
9 Elusive Capital (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Michael Freedman trained filly that debuted over 1000m at the Sunny Coast two weeks back where she landed near the speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch when third to Scartoon. Better for the run, she’s a knockout hope from the good draw.
Race 7. (16:57) Pierata Plate 1200m
1 Grafterburners (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be winning, all things being equal. Resumed four weeks ago over 1200m at Eagle Farm where most had him mapped back but he landed in front and once that eventuated, it was race over and he gapped them. He’ll be a leading Guineas contender at the Gold Coast and with such, takes beating here.
2 Damien (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been kept on the fresh side since Nov 8 over 1200m at Rosehill. He got into a decent spot off speed and tried hard but first up, condition just gave way late in the piece. Tick over trial last week at Gosford was quite good and his best form is good enough to be dangerous.
6 Lockyer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of I Am Invincible that resumes for Tony Gollan. He ended last prep on a high with a couple of wins after connections realised the Sires/JJ Atkins was a bridge too far. Looks to have trialled well for the return, watch betting.
Race 8. (17:32) George Moore Stakes 1200m
Very keen to be with 9 Pereille (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). On face value, plain return three weeks ago but he was first up on a track which was quite shifty and wet due to rain late in the day and he couldn’t quite let down behind Caspernova. Firmer deck, weight relief, fitter…great each way gamble.
1 Caballus (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has class on his side and I reckon class will carry him a long way. He has been given a mini freshen up since the Champions Sprint when off speed and tried hard but just lacked the class to go with them late behind Giga Kick. Back to this level, he appeals.
11 Boom Torque (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is capable if he’s ready to go. Just depends where he is at because he was quite plain during the Winter but he is a dry track horse and does race well during the warmer months. Recent trials have been quite strong, watch betting.
Race 9. (18:10) Mode Stakes 1200m
13 Sylph (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is still a maiden but she is a quality filly for Michael Freedman and I think she has found a very thin Stakes race. She resumed in a 1200m maiden at Canterbury when near the speed and did try hard but had no answers for impressive winner Supermassive. That form, I think, will be red hot, and the stable rarely get it wrong when coming to Brisbane.
2 Foreign Press (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was wide throughout two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast but despite that, she was there to win. Just found one better in Get Ready Lass. Fitter, up in trip, good racing style, she’s a key threat against these.
1 Impervious (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was ridden like a barrier trial at the Sunny Coast two weeks back, getting a fair way out of her ground. She was never really threatening but did close off and was pretty good in defeat. Dangerous if she gets a more positive ride.
Race 10. (18:50) Cbt City To Surf 3Yo 1600m
1 John Dory (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) could be a Derby horse in time, not entirely sure, but he does look progressive for Chris Waller. He was a strong winner at Canterbury last start in a maiden, driving hard from off speed to score. Heading in the right direction and despite being very poorly weighted, he commands respect.
7 Vandevelde (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat for me. I was keen on him here three weeks ago but the race shape was against him and he couldn’t quite make up the necessary ground in a total forgive. The win prior was quite good and overall, this race is weak. He’ll be strong late and hard to hold out.
12 Hidden Future (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes to town off the back of an on speed win over 1350m at Ipswich. Credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and score. Good racing style and if she gets front end control, she’s a threat at odds.
