6/1/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Geelong, Black Pearl Stakes day

7 Fretta (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a really good prospect. Price/Kent trained mare that is 2/2 to start her career, with a spell between the two wins. She resumed over the mile at Bendigo where she got better as the race went on, drawing clear late to win impressively. She will love the rise in trip, added fitness, upside/improvement and for mine, is clearly the one to beat.

12 Flamin Romans (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a nice horse on the up for the Maher/Eustace camp. He debuted with a placing at Kilmore before going to 1500m at Bendigo where he led throughout and was quite strong to the line in getting the job done. Heading in the right direction and the way he won at Bendigo, I do think rising to 1700m is no issue.

13 Haaland (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Rob Hickmott trained stayer that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since June 27 when ending the prep on a high with a dominant maiden win on the Synthetic at Ballarat. 1700m first up tells me there is some level of intent and outside the favourite, the depth isn’t overly deep.

6 Trunk (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Snitzel colt for GaiBott that is on debut. He’s had a couple of Sydney trials to prepare for start one and each trial he has looked pretty good to the eye, the latest seeing him run second at Randwick behind stablemate Straight Charge, and we saw what that horse did first up, so the form reads super and the stable are flying with their juveniles.

4 Stay Focused (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained colt that looks to have talent. He trialled at Cranbourne a few weeks ago and won the trial in solid time, seemingly moving nicely and had something in hand. Maps to get a sweet run in transit and this doesn’t appear to be an overly deep 2YO race, so watch the market and see if it remains in his corner.

2 Markdel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Snitzel for Team Freedman that is on debut. This guy trialled a few weeks ago at Cranbourne where he ran a close up fourth and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Stay Focused in a decent piece of work. Stable are good with their juveniles so watch the market.

7 Polanco (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Shea Eden and is a definite winning chance. He was several weeks between runs when racing over 1200m at Caulfield where he got a fair way out of his ground but I did like the way he found the line late in the piece behind Is It Me. Fitter, up to 1400m, he’s good enough to be around the mark against these.

19 Elouyou (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the one with upside/progression. Scott Cameron trained son of So You Think that broke his maiden tag over 1300m here, leading throughout and was quite impressive from the front, giving nothing else a look in, winning comfortably. Harder here, but he’s got a good racing style and enormous upside/progression compared to most.

4 My Mate Sonny (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give cheek. He did that on Boxing Day at Caulfield where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through on the testing ground when third to Plenty Of Ammo. He will give cheek and at odds, he must be included in multiples.

Fitter and up in trip, I am in the corner of 7 Christmas (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for Paul Preusker. This guy resumed over 2040m at The Valley where he got off the speed and was one paced when asked but he stayed on and was pretty good in the run to the line when third to Makusha. He has a much better set up here and the depth, as a whole isn’t deep. Likeable.

1 Commander Harry (Bet Now:  $SP.00) brings a class edge so he commands respect. He won at Caulfield three weeks ago, getting the beaut sit in transit behind the speed before angling clear and he got better as the race went on for a dominant win. He should have no issue with 2400m and maps to get a perfect run once again.

13 Mercian Hymn (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is heading in the right direction. Maddie Raymond trained gelding that is third up after two encouraging runs to start the prep, the latest being a fourth at Caulfield behind Commander Harry. Like him up in trip and has more upside than most so he appeals as a knockout chance.

7 Carbonados (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks an exciting prospect for Team Hayes that makes his Australian debut. He is with Team Hayes and only had one run in NZ, which resulted in a spank job win at New Plymouth on wet ground. His two jumpout wins have been electric and he looks Stakes class…as to what level, I am not putting a ceiling to that. Very keen on his prospects.

Good test here for 2 Gitalong (Bet Now:  $SP.00) but he is flying for Team Hawkes and has to be respected. He ran over 1000m at The Valley two weeks back where he produced sustained speed from the front, giving nothing else a look in to win quite comfortably. Harder here, but 3/3 this prep, hard to knock the way he’s racing.

9 Soar Beyond (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a nice horse for Danny O’Brien. He has been kept on ice since winning his maiden on Kyneton Cup Day, giving them a start and a beating in a sharp display. He’ll likely be spotting them a start but if they go silly in front, look for him to be strong at the end. Knockout hope.

9 Rey Magnerio (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a promising animal for Griffiths/De Kock and he seems ready to rock and roll here. He hasn’t raced since Champions Day at Flemington when letting down strongly from off the speed and winning impressively, making it four wins from six career outings. He’s had two jumpouts since so the grounding is there and in terms of upside/progression, it’s all about him.

6 Rich Fortune (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate getting to a bending track again. She ran down the straight in the Kensington at Flemington and kept finding the line in a good return when third to Katsu. Like her up in trip, bending track and being fourth up, she should just about be at peak fitness.

2 Poland (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a fascinating runner. Formerly with Mike Moroney, he now finds himself with Gavin Bedggood. His best has lengths on these but he hasn’t showed it in some time. That said, I thought he moved well in a recent Cranbourne jumpout and he does sprint well on the fresh side so watch the market and see what it does.

9 Toronto Terrier (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. Mike Moroney has this guy going really well this time in, the latest run being at Caulfield on Boxing Day where he looked all over a winner but he wanted to duck back to the inside, which wasn’t the A1 ground, and I reckon that’s why he was nabbed near the line. Drawn out to get clear air, take his time getting across…hard to beat.

13 Belle Savoir (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Nick Ryan trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since May 27 at Sandown when back in the run and did make up headway without threatening behind Pitchanun. She is better suited over a bit further I feel but 1400m fresh signals some level of intent. Watch the market.

12 Jesta Dreama (Bet Now:  $SP.00) isn’t racing too bad for Wendy Kelly. He ran at the midweeks at Sandown last time where he got back to near last in the run and made up some ground but was never really threatening behind Who Dares. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run…can he win? I am saying no, but a must for exotics.

4 Bermadez (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks suited up in trip for Mike Moroney. This guy ran over 1400m at Caulfield three weeks ago where he got dragged back from the wide gate and spotted those in front too much head start but I liked the way he finished off behind impressive winner Pascero. He is a winner at the track, he’ll press forward, you’d like to think, and prove hard to get past.

1 Junipal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect. He ran in the Lord Stakes on Boxing Day at Caulfield and was one of the real eye catchers in defeat from off the speed, closing off with purpose when a close up fourth to stablemate Zennzella. If he can settle closer in the run and be within range, he’s dangerous enough to take this out.

11 First Mate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider exotics. He was 1600m back to 1400m when racing at Caulfield on Boxing Day where he got too far back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, I didn’t mind the way he finished the race off behind Lounge Bar Rubi. If the inside gate is used to advantage, he’s dangerous at odds.

14 Eternal Flame (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality mare for Mick Kent that resumes. This mare had a two run prep when last in work, creating a big impression when winning fresh at Sandown before racing there again where she got too far out of her ground and was never a factor despite making up ground. Likely spots them a start but should be very strong at the end.

2 Va Via (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for James Cummings. This mare resumed at Randwick where she got too far back in the run but I really liked the way she found the line late in the piece behind Noble Soldier, finishing fourth. Good upside to come and the stable loves to target these Mares races.

Fitter and up to 1200m are two big ticks for 11 Defiant Diva (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Team Corstens trained mare that resumed down the straight at Flemington where she just looked in need of the run and that’s how it panned out when down the track behind Luna Cat. Much better set up this time around, and a big tick is getting to a bending track. Definite winning chance at odds.

3 Sisterhood (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is unbeaten this time in for Maher/Eustace and I think that will continue here. 2/2 this prep, producing the goods on speed to win fresh at Sandown before going to The Valley where she looked a moral on paper and duly saluted. Good test here against some likely types but she is a mare on the up with a good racing style and third up, she should be hard fit.

4 Yellow Sam (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the key threat. Lindsey Smith trained mare that resumed at The Valley where she got shuffled back somewhat from the inside gate and took a while to get clear but once she did, she found the line really well I thought in defeat behind Holly Lolly. Fitter, up in trip, ideal map, rates highly.

9 Cheval Chic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for Danny O’Brien. 2/2 this time in, spanking them fresh at Werribee before going here where she got into a dream spot behind the speed before angling clear and gee she let down with nice change up speed to win impressively. Harder here, but she is flying at the moment and no reason for mine why she can’t measure up.

LONG SHOT: Race Three Number 7 Polanco
