Race 1. (18:00) Kia Ora Captivant Mdn Hcp 1100m
2 Citizenship (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is odds on but I do think he has a bit on these and confident it’ll be a winning debut. He was prepped in Sydney during the Autumn, with an eye towards the Slipper, but nothing eventuated. Spelled, sent back to Victoria and his two jumpout wins at Cranbourne have been impressive, the latest one with J Kah aboard and he moved very nicely. Gets J Mac, lands on speed and should be too good.
1 Boston City (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Brazen Beau for the Ryan/Alexiou camp that resumes. He hasn’t raced since August 18 at Hawkesbury when wide with cover before presenting wider and finished off his race pretty good when close up behind the Stakes performed Renosu. Trialled up well at Rosehill in what looked a strong heat and will be a key threat if the fav is off his game.
3 Lavish Empire (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on debut for Mark Newnham and has talent. He has had two trials this time in to get ready for start one, the latest seeing him win at Warwick Farm and he led throughout, beating seasoned campaigners. Gets Nash to steer, should slide forward and will be there for a long way. Just not sure he has the engine to go with Citizenship.
Race 2. (18:30) Too Darn Hot First Yearl. Mdn 1100m
11 Queen Of Dragons (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top for me. Team Snowden trained filly that is on debut and looks to have prepped up well for start one. The latest trial, she ran second to the well performed stablemate Empire Of Japan and to my eye, she went much better than him. Trials are trials, and can get easily carried away, but I think she has the engine under the hood to make a winning debut.
8 Cigar Flick (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a well bred daughter of Churchill on debut for Chris Waller. She trialled last week at Rosehill and seemingly moved well to my eye when second under J Mac, who remains on for this. Has a tricky gate to overcome but hopefully with a decent drag into the race, she’ll launch late and prove hard to hold out.
12 Star Act (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Snitzel filly for Greg Hickman that is a knockout hope. Just one trial under the belt to get ready for the debut but what I liked is that when asked for the effort, she responded and found the line pretty well late in the piece. Not sure she has the talent to make a winning debut here, but she can sneak a first four spot at a price.
Race 3. (19:00) Ranvet Mdn Hcp 1100m
6 Divots (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has a tricky gate to overcome, but I think she is well above average and can overcome it to make a winning debut. Just one trial to get ready for start one, but gee it was a lovely piece of work. Near the speed throughout and she went through her gears like a nice horse to win impressively in good enough time. If she overcomes the gate, which I think she will, she’ll beat this lot.
1 Coriolis (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to take out a maiden. Game second to subsequent Gosford Guineas winner Anavinci before going to Randwick on Boxing Day when four wide the trip and battled on strongly when second to Ramones. Draws to get a much better run in transit and gets J Mac aboard, so she has a bit in her corner to take this out.
2 Amrap (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Per Incanto filly for John O’Shea that is on debut. She has only had the one trial to get ready for start one, which came over 800m at Gosford, but I didn’t mind the way she moved under Tommy Berry and seemingly had plenty in hand to win the trial. Tommy jumps off to steer Divots, which is the lead you’d assume, but this girl shouldn’t be dismissed.
Race 4. (19:30) Tab - Night Sprint (Bm72) 1100m
2 French Marine (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has come back super. Trials were touch and go but he resumed with a bang on the Beaumont at Newcastle in a 68 where he had a bit on them re class and duly saluted under Bullock despite being keen in the run. Really good second up record, he’ll sit off a good speed, be strong late and with the claim for Gibbons, he appeals.
6 Oryx (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will land near the front and prove hard to run down. Was kept relatively safe in betting when resuming at Hawkesbury where he found the front under Lloyd and was too sharp for them in a good display. Has run okay in town before and I think getting a hungry Nash aboard is certainly no disadvantage. Hard to beat.
4 Julian Rock (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing on Saturday at Randwick where he found a much hotter race than this and just found them a bit sharp when down the track behind Cuban Royale. This is a massive drop in grade/depth and with good speed in front, can see him sitting back and launching late.
Race 5. (20:00) Furphy (Bm72) 1250m
4 Twilight Affair (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has class on her side and I think that will get her home. She resumes for GaiBott and has a hungry Nash to steer. Didn’t do a bad job when last in work and ran well alongside the likes of Shades Of Rose and Roots, who would be $1.01 against this lot. Trial here was very good behind Hell I Am, she should find the front and prove too sharp for this lot.
5 Grace Bay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the only threat to my eye, if indeed there is a threat. Market wanted her when racing over 1300m at Wyong last time and was there to win when presented but had to settle for a narrow second to a handy galloper in Mobstar. Has run well at the track/distance and has the hard race fitness under the belt, so that could come into play if they overdo it in front.
3 Sunborn (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver here. Not much went her way fresh here behind an in form Edna before going to Randwick where she attempted to lead throughout, totally against her pattern, and she tired late behind a talented filly, Sunshine In Paris. I think from the gate, they’ll ride her with a sit and she does have a good third up record. One for exotics.
Race 6. (20:30) Phil Gilbert Kia Eve Star-Bm72 1550m
This looks a lovely race for 2 Savoury (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). Bjorn Baker trained gelding that ran just under two weeks ago in a strong 88 at Randwick and I thought he ran a super race in defeat out of his grade when fourth to Jojo Was A Man. Saves his best for Canterbury and should lob into a lovely spot from the gate. If he runs up to last start, I think he wins and is one of the best on the program.
1 Dimaggio (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will put himself on speed and give his all. Three weeks between runs since an all the way win at this track/distance, defying a notable betting drift. He was there to be beaten but found plenty under pressure to fend them off and win. A horse that needs lifting and riding, so love the booking of Nash, he’ll likely find the front and prove hard to run down.
5 Sonic Tycoon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) gets the Blinkers back on and I think can be a big improver. Led and was run down two back at Kembla before going to Hawkesbury where he copped too much heat on speed and tired late behind Ella Te Ama, a handy mare for Kris Lees. If this track is playing up/in, with Blinkers back on, his best is capable to take this out.
Race 7. (21:00) Schweppes (Bm64) 1550m
5 Beirut Miss (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top. Progressive mare for Joe Pride that had been bursting to win a maiden for some time and it came last start at Newcastle on the Beaumont when absolutely smashed in betting and the bets were landed with a strong win, clocking good late splits in the process. There is a bit of depth to this line up but she is heading in the right direction and maps ideally.
1 Chenin (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a big improver back to this level. Thrown in the deep end last time in the Belle Of The Turf at Gosford and just found them a bit too classy when down the track behind all the way winner Deny Knowledge. Has run well at the track before and while there might be an end of prep run looming, she gets a good map to do no work and has the runs on the board relative to her rivals.
Fitter and up to 1550m are two big ticks for 4 Grecian Lass (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). Market said she’d need the run when resuming over 1400m at Tuncurry but despite that, I thought she ran a credible race, closing off well when third to stablemate Willinga Freefall. 1/1 at the track/distance, has good upside and will be strong late I think off what looks a genuine tempo.
Race 8. (21:30) The Agency Real Estate (Bm72) 1900m
10 Savvy Legend (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the each way speck in the get out for Les Bridge. They rode him with more intent at this track/distance last time, sitting on speed and fought on quite strongly, just missing out on the win when a close up third to Fuller. I hope they ride him with a touch more patience so he has a bunny to chase because I do think that is when he races best.
8 Whangaehu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is bursting to win a race. Ran in the race mentioned above won by Fuller and I thought he was given a peach by Coen, hailed as the winner, but was nabbed right on the peg by the stablemate. Gets a big jockey upgrade and should get a lovely run from the gate. Hard to beat in a race like this I’d assume in a race very similar to what he faced last time.
5 Taraashoq (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks suited up to 1900m again. He has raced over the mile his past couple, both at Warwick Farm. He ran well from off the speed last time when fourth to Too Much Caviar, who won again since, so the form does read quite well and he is racing like the rise in trip will be ideal. He’s one of the definite winning hopes.
