5/8/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick, Missile Stakes day

Spring is nearly in the air this Saturday at Randwick with a crack bunch of gallopers set to take their place in the $200,000 Group ll Missile Stakes (1200m), with the sprint race the drawcard across nine races. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

4 Addictive Nature (Bet Now: $2.15) is a well bred youngster for Bjorn Baker who had been trialling up a storm prior to debuting at Warwick Farm where he landed some big bets, sitting on speed and powering on for a superb debut win. Looks well above average, a potential Stakes horse. Should comfortably measure up here and rates highly.

2 Brave Song (Bet Now: $3.00) does look the obvious threat. Smart looking type for Team Snowden who broke the maiden status at Canterbury last time out where he put them away quite quickly after a lovely ride off the pace from Bowman. Not sure he beat much, but the debut run behind Calculated was a ripper. Hard to beat.

6 Solar Patch (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Gary Moore trained three year old who was gelded at the start of this prep and it looks to be the making of him. Trialled up very good prior to resuming at Gosford over 1000m where he was simply far too good for them, rounding them up and winning as if it was a second barrier trial. Beat Ibanez, who was awful last Saturday, so the form is suspect, but again, time was good for the meeting.

1 Miss Dubois (Bet Now: $14.00) is a new acquisition for the Matty Dunn yard. Formerly with Patrick Payne. Made her debut for Dunn over 1400m at the Sunny Coast three weeks back and gee was very impressive. She ran over 1400m, went up the inside, which wasn’t the A ground, yet finished off powerfully to win. She was proven beyond 2000m when with Payne, so the Randwick 1800m looks ideal.

3 Diapason (Bet Now: $5.00) is a smart mare for Chris Waller who looks very well placed here. She ran over the mile at Flemington a fortnight back where Ben Thompson rode the mare a treat and she looked the winner but just proved no match for the finale of Dulverton. Looking for the 1800m I think and her form down south reads very well.

8 Shanakee (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Bjorn Baker trained mare who can be hard to trust, but her efforts this time in have been quite encouraging. She ran over the Warwick Farm mile last time out where she perhaps wasn’t suited by the slow tempo but I thought she stuck to the task quite gamely behind La Chica Bella. She is a proven stayer, so the rise to 1800m suits and she has upside.

Landed with 7 Dane Thunder (Bet Now: $11.00). Not the most reliable horse going around, but the same can be said for most engaged here. He is a Victorian who comes through a 1400m race at Caulfield on July 15 where he got a nice sit just off the pace and loomed to win when peeling wide but just couldn’t quite finish off when third to Orient Line, who ran well a week later to frank the form. Looks to map well here and strikes a winnable race.

11 Sonic Swish (Bet Now: $7.50) is a talented type for the Chris Waller yard who resumed at Rosehill three weeks back where he was fancied in the market to an extent but he let his supporters down badly with a below par effort behind Pick Me Up. He does go much better second up and this is a winnable race if he found his best.

 2 Brazen (Bet Now: $27.00) is a talented stayer that has had a couple of runs for the Joe Pride camp. Resumed at Warwick Farm and didn’t do much before coming here where I thought he closed off okay late behind Pelethronius. Blinkers go on with this horse and when it comes to Joe Pride and gear changes, always respect.

2 Care To Think (Bet Now: $2.40) is an above average four year old for Matty Dunn who looks so well placed in this Highway. Ran a fortnight back at Doomben where he was heavily backed late and aided by a beaut steer from Jim Byrne, he powered to the lead and was strong to the line. This stable in Highways is near unbeatable and this could be the best one they have produced in this race.

12 Fraternater (Bet Now: $23.00) is a progressive up and coming mare for the Neil Osborne camp who looks ready to tackle a Highway off the back of a smart win at Narrandera last start where she got off the pace in the run before tracking up nicely, easing into clear air and finishing best. Stable is going well at the moment and they don’t come to town unless they perform.

7 D’Beak (Bet Now: $31.00) is a Joseph/Jones trained galloper who resumed in a Highway at this track/distance a fortnight back and he did a really good job in defeat I thought behind Suncraze. Did all the work outside the speed, pulled hard, was quickly beaten off and looked to be fading, but he kicked again and was outbobbed for third. Might want further, but happy to include off that super return.

3 Sayed (Bet Now: $2.90) on top. Chris Waller trained galloper who ran over the 2400m at Warwick Farm last time out where he never really looked like winning but Bowman kicked him into full gear late and he surged hard to grab the win. Trialled up last week behind Poldark and went good to the eye to keep him ticking over. Safe way to go.

1 Auvray (Bet Now: $27.00) could be the big improver here, even with the weight. He ran over 1800m here a fortnight back and really had no hope the way the race was run. It was suited to those near the speed and he was back, and for a stayer proven at 3000m, that isn’t his go. Up to a more ideal trip now and does have the class factor.

11 King’s Officer (Bet Now: $19.00) might well be looking for the 2400m now which seems crazy because it wasn’t long ago he was suspect at a strong mile. He ran over 2200m at Warwick Farm at the midweeks and was off the bit a fair way out but stuck on really well behind Celestial Choice. He has run some good races at Randwick and the extra furlong will help.

Really keen here on 8 Admiral Jello (Bet Now: $5.00).  His trials were very good leading up to his resumption over 1500m here a fortnight back where he was a real eye catcher late when warming to the task behind Pelethronius. Up to the mile, fitter, upside and once again, he will be strong late. Struggling to find a negative.

2 Invincible Knight (Bet Now: $3.80) could not have been ridden better by Shinn in the Pelethronius race here two weeks back. Looked all over a winner once he popped out and dashed. Just had no answers to the finishing burst of the eventual winner. I think if he has last say here, he can win for sure.

10 Dubaiinstyle (Bet Now: $5.50) resumed in the Pelethronius race and while he was beaten convincingly, I thought his effort over an unsuitable trip was more than satisfactory given the tempo was okay without being silly and he was in need of the run. He is a track/distance winner and he does go well third up.

Siding with 1 Le Romain (Bet Now: $2.10). High class animal for Kris Lees who had a fabulous Autumn, highlighted by a Group l win in the Canterbury and then running second to Winx in the George Ryder. Forget the Doncaster. Had no luck and the track was against him. He has looked sharp in a couple of trials and from all reports, his piece of work last Friday was outstanding. Class gets him home I think.

2 Jungle Edge (Bet Now: $6.00) is best suited on a heavy track but I think he can run a beauty here on a Randwick track he loves and there is always cushion in it. Took all before him in the Autumn/Winter but just couldn’t quite crack it for a major. No jump outs I can find for him, but he has residual fitness and will be leading.

8 Invincible Gem (Bet Now: $8.50) just came from nowhere in the Summer/Autumn. She was a handy benchmark filly, but she surprised a few with her Spring Stakes win before having a crack at the Randwick Guineas where she beat all bar Inference. Trials have been great too and she appears forward enough to run a beauty here.

 10 Launch Code (Bet Now: $3.10) is an above average type for the Kris Lees who got a big confidence boost last week at Wyong. Schofield gave him a peach just off the pace and once he peeled three wide, he let down and put the race to bed in a couple of strides. He is a Saturday horse for sure and he gets a great chance to prove it here.

3 Tango Rain (Bet Now: $3.40) is a smart four year old that resumes for Gerald Ryan. He has had ten months off since his first prep, which started with a couple of sharp wins before efforts at Stakes grade behind Star Turn, a second, followed by a down the track effort behind Guard Of Honour. Trials have been outstanding, just needs to overcome the sticky gate, but I think he has the pace.

12 Realise Potential (Bet Now: $14.00) is a handy customer that resumes for the Joe Pride yard. I had him pegged down as a midweek horse but he steadily improved last time in and I think he can measure up. Been given a couple of nice hitouts at the trials and to my eye he looks forward enough to run well here fresh, and a fast run 1000m will be ideal.

10 Spending To Win (Bet Now: $4.40) gets the nod for me here. Smart customer for Team Snowden who attempted to lead all the way at this track/distance a fortnight back and I think he just got a bit lost in front. Had no idea how to let down but when Argent D’Or came inside him, he surged and would have won in another bound. If he has a bunny to chase here, he’ll take some beating.

You knew your ticket was confetti if you backed 9 Bolero King (Bet Now: $8.50) here two weeks ago. He played up badly behind the gates, had to be re-plated, and then in the run, it was just a nightmare. Had no luck in the straight and probably should have been in the finish with any kind of good luck.

Didn’t originally include him, but with a likely wet track, 6 Mana (Bet Now: $13.00) definitely comes into play. Smart customer for Craig Ritchie who is low flying this time in and does improve a length or two on wet ground, but his recent efforts on a firmer surface have been quite good. Hard fit, in form and he will be strong late. Ticks a few boxes.
