Morphettville will play host to a strong card of racing on Saturday, where the meeting is highlighted by the $100,000 Listed Quayclean Stakes (1200m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.

Race One (13:24) : Gordon Ormandy Brian Leahy Handicap (82) 2006m:
Back Me: Held Hostage (Best Odds: $2.30) was only second up when scoring a strong win over 1550m on the Parks track. Should only improve off that, meets a pretty thin field here, and he really should take care of this lot, all things being equal.
Big Danger: Martian (Best Odds: $4.20) was excellent in defeat last time out over 1950m on the Parks track when forced to take off halfway home yet he kept finding to just miss out on picking up Not A Zerprise. Bigger track and extra tip suits, and he should be now at peak fitness.
Roughie: Burnro (Best Odds: $7.50) is on the back up from last Saturday where he scored a dominant win over the mile here, lumping 58.5kg in the process. Tumbles in weight here, in form and does give the impression as if he will run out the 2000m.

Race Two (13:59) : Gary Radford Broken Hill Family Handicap (64) 1800m:
Back Me: Boys Getaround Him (Best Odds: $4.80) ran over the mile here last weekend where he stuck on okay to run fourth to Burnro, beaten 1.5L. He has run okay on the seven day back up previously, and I think the 1800m will be ideal.
Big Danger: Easy Drama (Best Odds: $3.80) is another one that comes through the Burnro race, and I thought the son of Real Saga was a touch disappointing in running fifth. He is better than that, so the extra furlong could be right up his alley.
Roughie: Robocop (Best Odds: $15.00) was heavily backed when running over 1700m at Gawler a couple of weeks back and the punters got it spot on, with the stayer charging home from the back to win in the last couple of strides. He still has upside left and will only get better with each run under the belt.

Race Three (14:34) : Wolf Blass Wines Maiden Plate 1050m:
Back Me: Bow Noculars (Best Odds: $2.10) looks close to a good thing here. Last trial at Cranbourne was outstanding when second to Siegestor, who franked the form by running a beauty last weekend. If he can overcome the wide gate, which I am sure he will given he is drawn next to a speed runner, he’ll be beating these.
Big Danger: Brimarvi Equiada (Best Odds: $8.00) ran over 1100m at Gawler last time out where he showed good speed to lead from a wide gate and was only grabbed in the final 75m when third to Chosen Angel. Should cross over and lead, and slightly back in trip, he should be stronger.
Roughie: Zip Stryker (Best Odds: $51.00) ran in that Chosen Angel race mentioned above, and I thought she was pretty good there considering she came from well off the pace and worked home alright late. Carries only 52.5kg here and the rider is the form apprentice in SA at the moment.

Race Four (15:13) : Penna Michael Chartered Accountants Handicap (75) 1506m:
Back Me: Coachella (Best Odds: $4.00) is a horse who is hard to tip against. She ran over 1400m on the Parks track three weeks back where she was wide with cover but near last before working home hard between runners for a close up fourth. Extra tip and bigger track, along with Neilson going back on, are the boxes ticked for me for her to go on top.
Big Danger: Written Birch (Best Odds: $10.00) was given an absolute peach of a ride from Jason Holder to win quite impressively last time out at Gawler. Form out of that race has been pretty good with the third placegetter running well on Sunday. I think the extra trip is the lone negative. Outside that, she looks a serious threat.
Roughie: Quick Lover (Best Odds: $4.40), given her racing pattern, will receive more bad luck than good luck, as we saw last start where she pretty much went to the line under a hold in running 10th of 12 behind Ample On Offa. Ounce of good luck here, and she will take some beating.

Race Five (15:53) : Consolidated Plant & Quarries Handicap (82) 1050m:
Back Me: Lucky Symbol (Best Odds: $2.40) was heavily backed when resuming over this track/distance where he copped serious heat on speed but kicked on strongly for a determined win, beating home the above average Scratchy Lass. Doesn’t have to lead to win, and I suspect Finnegan will take the sit behind Gauci on Maasai Justice and have the last say.
Big Danger: Maasai Justice (Best Odds: $12.00) resumed over this distance at Donald last time out where he sat on speed and proved far too nippy for his rivals. With the booking of Gauci, you know this horse will be leading, and he will take some running down for sure.
Roughie: What’s In A Name (Best Odds: $17.00) resumes here after 12 months off the scene. His last came during Cup Week at Flemington last year behind You Rock over 1800m. Normally I’d dismiss this horse as a chance, but recent times have shown horses who have had long layoffs in SA eg Enduro, perform well fresh.

Race Six (16:33) : Haigh Wylie Memorial Handicap (82) 1600m:
Back Me: It And A Bit (Best Odds: $5.50) was given a lovely ride by Holder to win over 1400m on the Parks track a fortnight back, stalking the leader all the way before peeling out and letting down strongly for a well deserved win. He will have no trouble with the mile, and Holder sticks.
Big Danger: Tenere (Best Odds: $5.50) surprised many when he won first up before racing in that race above, where he was off the bit a fair way from home given the speed was hot, and on the turn he looked gone, but he picked up late and was very good through the line. Third up at the mile looks perfect.
Roughie: Where’s Tim (Best Odds: $17.00) was a real eye catcher last time out at Strathalbyn when storming home from the back to finish two lengths away from Emmooki’s Dash, who is a proven city performer. Suited up to the mile, tumbles in weight and has a stack of upside.

Race Seven (17:13) : Quayclean Stakes 1200m:
Back Me: I’ll take a chance with Lord Aspen (Best Odds: $3.20). He was dominant in winning first up over this track/distance, and then in two runs since, he has been okay without setting the world on fire. Freshened up and back to 1200m is perfect, especially a fast run 1200m. If the real Lord Aspen turns up here, he’ll blow them away.
Big Danger: Karacatis (Best Odds: $6.50) was outstanding in his return to racing over 1000m on the Parks track, aided by a peach from Gatt who got the horse in behind the hot speed before getting a split near the inside and savaging the line for a top win. Only better off up in trip and with the added fitness.
Roughie: Baligari (Best Odds: $8.00) was excellent when resuming in that race Karacatis saluted in, sitting wide throughout and sticking on well when third. He has enormous upside left and second up last time in he placed at Stakes level here over 1400m.

Race Eight (17:53) : Zonte’s Footstep Handicap (70) 1200m:
Back Me: Living Large (Best Odds: $3.20) has been impressive in two runs this time in, both resulting in strong wins, the latest coming over 1000m on the Parks track. 1200m should be no issue, and I think he will be better when he is ridden with cover and has a bunny to chase.
Roughie: House Of Wax (Best Odds: $7.00) resumed behind Living Large and ran home well for third after being backed in betting at odds. He normally runs flat second up, so that’s the worry, but it’s hard to ignore how he finished off his race first up.
Roughie: Our Exchange (Best Odds: $15.00) drops a bit in class here after running well last start behind Mr Backchat on the Parks track. That horse goes around as a leading contender at William Hill Park, and by this race, you’ll know if that form is strong or not. Draws well though and is suited at the weights.
