Sandown Hillside will conduct a solid eight race meeting this Easter Monday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out ten metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:00) Ladbrokes Odds Boost Multi Mdn 1500m
2 Horrifying (Bet Now: $1.70) looks one of the best on the card for mine. Kav trains this son of Shocking, who resumed over 1400m on the Lakeside course. Just got a bit too far back in the run but loved the way he found the line late against the pattern behind Flying Mascot. Blinkers on now, depth isn’t deep…surely he puts this lot away.
4 Schuhbeck (Bet Now: $5.00) is hard fit and racing well for the Hayes/Dabernig team. Ran in a 1400m maiden on Albury Cup Day and had a sweet sit behind the leader on a day where the rail was red hot. He had his chance to win. Just couldn’t quite get there. Gets a suck run again from the good draw and should be around the mark.
1 Pilote (Bet Now: $9.00) looks to be racing well. Well enough to win this? Not sure, but he was good over 1400m at Ballarat last time out on very testing ground. Got back and made ground, but couldn’t quite get there. Small field helps his cause and should be strong at the end.
Race 2. (13:35) Ive > Print Mdn Plate 1000m
How can you ignore a John Sadler runner at the moment. At the time of writing this preview (Friday), he was six winners from his last ten runners with a 227% POT. The stable has been flying since December and he has 2 Deluxe Legend (Bet Now: $4.40) on debut. He’s looked sharp in a couple of jumpout wins at Caulfield and looks ready to go. He’ll do me.
6 Oryx (Bet Now: $3.40) is a well bred colt for James Cummings that is on debut. He was based in Sydney before a state switch to the Flemington base. Blinkers have been applied and his jumpouts to get ready have been very strong to the eye so can understand why he is hard in the market. Last 10-15 minutes of betting will be telling.
10 Inebriating (Bet Now: $12.00) can add value to multiples. Scott Cameron trains this filly, who is on debut. Interestingly there has been market support for her at odds early and can understand why. Her jumpouts to get ready haven’t been too bad to the eye and she’ll do no work from the gate, so can see why she’s popular.
Race 3. (14:10) Clanbrooke Racing Hcp (c1) 1300m
10 Always In Moment (Bet Now: $2.40) gets the nod for me. Mick Kent trained filly that was heavily backed when resuming in a 1200m maiden at Pakenham and under a confident steer from Lane, she gapped them and was impressive in solid time. Think there is depth to this Class 1 but she looks the most progressive.
6 Staredown (Bet Now: $4.80) is a horse I have a bit of time for. Maher/Eustace trains this guy. Just missed out on the win fresh at Terang before racing there again and this time, he was able to finish the job and break his maiden tag in dominant fashion. Has race fitness on his side and has to be respected.
4 Compardy (Bet Now: $13.00) took a little while to get win one on the board but it came last start at Kyneton. Took a fair while to get into his work but once he did, he chased strongly and was impressive in winning. Harder here and drawn wide, but is honest and can fill a first four spot at a price.
Race 4. (14:45) The Big Screen Company (bm64) 1300m
I like 3 Beau Rossa (Bet Now: $1.70) here. Will Clarken trained three year old that resumed on the Parks track three weeks ago and gee he was dominant from near the speed. Tick over trial was a nice piece of work…I am not sure about 1300m with him but Will Clarken knows what he is doing.
I dare say the Corstens camp have eyes on the Queensland Oaks with 4 Succeed Indeed (Bet Now: $4.80), who returns to the track after a mixed Spring. Ran well during the Fillies races, but just couldn’t quite measure up to the top tier. Think whatever she does here, she’ll improve on, but has class.
10 Till It’s Over (Bet Now: $10.00) is an interesting runner. Paul Preusker trained filly that resumes, having not raced since her debut at Donald back in February when surging hard late from off the speed to win and win well. Form has been suspect, but she’s a likely type, has jumped out well and will be strong at the end.
Race 5. (15:20) Ladbroke It (bm78) 1000m
7 Kalkarni Royale (Bet Now: $1.95) is the safe option. Talented mare mare for the Corstens camp that resumes, having not raced since December 12 down the straight at Flemington where she was near the speed, kicked and was only nabbed late by Paul’s Regret, who has since been Stakes placed, so the form reads well and her recent jumpout was a lovely piece of work. Keen on her chances.
9 Harlem Blues (Bet Now: $3.80) should be suited back to 1000m. Was keen on his chances when racing over 1100m at Ballarat last time out. Just think the sit/sprint set up, especially on wet ground, wasn’t to his liking. Brings relatively fresh legs into this back on firmer footing and he can bounce back.
Best version of 4 Final Man (Bet Now: $13.00) is capable of being dangerous. Just haven’t really seen his best since his 3YO days. Had a three run Spring prep and didn’t really fire a shot, so jury is out on him somewhat, but he has a liking for Sandown and with good speed in front, he has the set up to finish over the top.
Race 6. (16:00) Ladbrokes Easy Form (bm70) 1400m
6 Sirileo Miss (Bet Now: $2.30) looks the second good thing of the meeting. Lot of class/quality about her first up win on the Lakeside course. Showed really good change up speed when asked and she gapped her rivals. Could potentially be Stakes class, but I like the stable going through the grades with her instead of a quick leap to blacktype company.
4 Boom Dot Com (Bet Now: $5.00) has to be respected from Tassie. She has been very sharp her past couple, both coming over 1400m at Launceston and each time she has produced good change up speed from the back. Good test for her here, but you always have to respect the Tassie gallopers when they come over.
1 Stardayz (Bet Now: $8.00) has returned in good order for the Maher/Eustace camp. Lovely ride from Lafferty saw this mare bolt up over 1400m at Pakenham. Did she beat much? Probably not, but she was dominant in the run to the line. Harder here, but Will Price in town is riding just so well at the moment.
Race 7. (16:40) Ladbrokes Blended Multi (bm70) 1400m
I have it as a race in two. Just leaning towards 5 Reckoning (Bet Now: $4.40). Thought he was a real eye catcher fresh at Wangaratta several weeks ago, warming to the task late, just peaking on the run when a close up fourth to Prince Of Helena. The form around him from last prep does read very well, so keen to see him up in trip with the run under the belt.
9 Dirty Deeds (Bet Now: $2.90) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but is honest and should be around the mark. That was the case when he last raced several weeks ago over the mile here. Sat on speed and was there to win. Just found Diamonds’N’Stones too tough and too good on the day. Plum spot from the gate Jamie Kah sticks.
7 Laundy (Bet Now: $9.00) is a son of Redwood for the Busuttin/Young camp that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since New Years Day at Flemington where he did too much work in front and was left a sitting shot for his rivals. Given a good break to get ready for his return and is a horse that can sprint well fresh.
Race 8. (17:20) Ladbrokes Odds Exotics (bm70) 1600m
5 Excelleration (Bet Now: $1.70) looks destined for better races doesn’t he. He was arrogant when winning fresh on the Lakeside course over 1400m. Sat back, peeled wide and put them away in a matter of strides. He’s a beauty that will go through his grades and think this will be another stepping stone.
3 Legend Of Zorro (Bet Now: $7.50) is flying for Andrew Noblet. Has had a mini freshen up since winning over the mile on Adelaide Cup Day when wearing down La Richesse. Form out of it has been plain since, but he is a horse who is in form and should be strong here at the end of a truly run mile.
I think 2 Killourney (Bet Now: $6.50) has a decent engine under the hood. Resumed over 1400m at Sandown at his Australian debut and didn’t get the clearest of paths, but loved the way he kept finding the line when a close up third to Shandy. Not sure he wins, but a must for exotics now up in trip.
