Race 1. (15:40) Sportsbet Feed (Bm70) 3000m
Holy…what a race to start the meeting. Bludger. 1 Highland Blaze (Bet Now: $1.70) should be winning. He bolted up over this trip at The Valley last time, making a sustained run from off the speed and was far too good. The depth here is much, much weaker, and the extra weight is fine. Should be winning.
3 Diwali (Bet Now: $6.00) is the only real threat, if there is one. He ran fourth behind Highland Blaze in the race mentioned above when off speed and held up at times but was good late in the piece. Blinkers on to sharpen him up and is there to pick up the pieces if Highland Blaze is off his game.
4 Tavabeel (Bet Now: $9.00) was just going through the motions but found winning form at Werribee last time over 2800m, sitting near the speed and found plenty late under pressure to fend them off and score. Not sure he is a horse I could back to win but can fill a place.
Race 2. (16:15) Evergreen Turf Mdn Plate 1400m
2 Climb The Ladder (Bet Now: $2.15) looks a three year old on the up for Chris Waller that debuted at Mornington where I am not sure he was 100% happy around the tight track but loved the way he closed off in defeat behind impressive debut winner and stablemate Summer Flame. Up to 1400m and bigger track, he takes beating here.
4 Menzah One (Bet Now: $3.20) is a key threat. He ran over this trip at Pakenham last time when off speed before angling for clear air and knuckled down with purpose late, just finding Storm Ahead a fraction too good. Think that form reads well for this and should be around the mark.
5 Redadel (Bet Now: $12.00) should be better for the debut run over 1400m at Pakenham in the same race mentioned above that Storm Ahead contested. He got off speed and was chasing but kept on and was a pass mark in defeat I thought. Might want further but has that run under the belt and gets in well after the claim.
Race 3. (16:50) Sportsbet Jockey Watch Mdn Plate 1200m
3 Blackjack (Bet Now: $16.00) has the tricky gate to overcome but he does look a good mover for Team McEvoy. He is a son of Bivouac that looked sharp in the Spring but didn’t run. Spelled and has had two trials this time in, the latest being last week at Geelong and thought he moved quite well behind Tycoon Star. If he can overcome the tricky gate, he’ll be around the mark.
11 Heavenly Conquest (Bet Now: $3.70) commands respect. Ciaron Maher trained filly that debuted over 1000m down the straight at Flemington where she looked a bit raw/new to the caper but she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat behind Cavalry Girl. Better for the run and up in trip, she’s a key threat.
6 Stranded (Bet Now: $15.00) should appreciate a rise to 1200m after racing over 1100m at Seymour last time out where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. Dangerous if he can settle closer.
Race 4. (17:25) Thoroughbred Club Of Australia (Bm64) 1200m
6 Summer Flame (Bet Now: $4.00) looks to pick herself I feel. Chris Waller trained filly that went like a rocket prior to debuting at Mornington where she led throughout and gave nothing else a look in, winning quite impressively and ran decent time. Form out of it has been strong since, good racing style and has upside/progression.
2 Heaving (Bet Now: $3.00) commands respect for Team Freedman off the back of a first up win at Seymour where he got into a good spot near the speed and once clicked up by Shinn, away he went and was impressive. Confident he can measure up against these.
4 Arezzo (Bet Now: $10.00) has been given a mini let up since winning on debut at Geelong. He got into a dream spot near the speed before being clicked up and he showed good change up speed to win nicely. Tick over jumpout was good, maps ideally and Zahra sticks.
Race 5. (18:00) Sportsbet More Places (Bm64) 1400m
1 Lovin Laughs (Bet Now: $8.50) is the each way play for me. He was that too when racing here last Wednesday. He got the sweet run in transit and tried hard but just lacked the killer finale to go with them late when fourth to Sepals. Gets a jockey upgrade IMO and that is enough for me to say he can improve enough to win.
5 Grid Girl (Bet Now: $3.50) should be better for the first up run over 1200m at Cranbourne when back in the run but really liked the way she closed off in defeat behind American Liaison. Better for the run, fitter and up in trip, she rates highly.
3 Peel The Stickers (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Team Payne trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Dec 4 at Caulfield Heath when back off the speed and just battled late behind Smokin Princess. Trialled well for the return, and is capable with his best.
Race 6. (18:30) Tile Importer (Bm70) 2100m
2 Love Sparkles (Bet Now: $5.50) on top in a race that doesn’t appear to be overly deep. Andrew Forsman trained mare that ran over 2040m at The Valley last time out where she got off speed and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. Bigger track, maps ideally and the depth isn’t overly deep.
4 Tarvue (Bet Now: $SP.00) is unknown at the trip but she is a mare on the up and heading in the right direction for John Sadler. Latest run came over the mile at Pakenham when on speed and was trucking being clicked up and away she went to win and win well. Think she can measure up.
1 Capulet (Bet Now: $4.20) is capable with her best. Latest run came over 2040m at The Valley when off speed and seemed to have her chance, just battling late in the piece behind Fagin. The depth here is thin and she has run well at the track previously.
Race 7. (19:00) Stow Storage Solutions (Bm70) 1600m
2 Enxuto (Bet Now: $1.45) has found winning form and she can go on with it. Track/distance winner from last Wednesday where he got the A1 run in transit. Just a matter of pushing the button by Shinn and once that eventuated, away he went and he was dominant. Harder here, but his confidence is up and he can win again.
3 Active Duty (Bet Now: $7.50) is racing well for Lindsey Smith and should be around the mark. Broke a run of outs two back when a dominant winner at Warrnambool before going to The Valley when on speed and fought hard but was pipped late by Fagin. Back in trip I like, good racing style, hard to beat.
5 Ersa (Bet Now: $9.00) can run an improved race with a more patient steer. Reckon they rode her a touch warm last time out at Flemington when attempting to lead throughout and just felt the pinch late in the piece behind One Long Day. A bunny to chase here, she can bounce back.
Race 8. (19:30) Sportsbet Same Race Multi (Bm70) 1200m
5 Written Bligh (Bet Now: $2.80) is the straight bat play in the get out. Grahame Begg trained mare that was bursting to win and that win came at Mornington last time when getting the suck run in transit in front, getting control and gave nothing else a look in to win and win well. Hard to beat against these.
3 Elba (Bet Now: $8.50) is a few weeks between runs since racing over 1100m down the straight at Flemington when finding them a bit sharp but she didn’t disgrace herself in defeat behind in form mare Shesallshenanigans. Back to a bending track and back a fair way in depth, she rates highly.
11 Fayetta (Bet Now: $19.00) is a Dan O’Sullivan trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since October 3 at Ballarat when keen behind the speed but kept finding the line in a pretty good effort in defeat. Looks to have trialled well and maps to do no work.
