Race 1. (11:20) Clarendon Stakes 1400m

Back Me

2 Trafalgar Square (Bet Now: $4.80) is a filly that I think has an engine under the hood for David Payne. She was knocking on the door to break the maiden tag and she did it in spades at Canterbury, giving them a spanking in an electric performance. I am sure she could head to Brisbane and run well, so it will be interesting to see how she goes here. I think she’ll measure up.

Danger

J Mac sticks with 7 Great White Shark (Bet Now: $8.50) from the debut at Canterbury where he didn’t seem 100% happy around the track but I didn’t mind his finale behind Imperial Force, who i think would be odds on against these. Good improvement to come, bigger track and up to 1400m, I think he’s going to take beating against these.

Long Shot

9 Canara (Bet Now: $10.00) is a knockout hope. She ran behind Trafalgar Square at Canterbury when wide no cover for the trip and that early work did tell in the straight but that said, she was still a touch disappointing. Think with a more economical run, she’s certainly going well enough to be a first four threat.

Race 2. (11:55) Midway (Bm72) 1500m

Back Me

5 Go Troppo (Bet Now: $5.00) looks to be back on track and can certainly take this out. David Pfieffer trained gelding that resumed at Rosehill in a Midway and was never a factor behind Cruel Summer before going here two weeks ago and he was a real eye catcher late without being a winning threat behind Putt For Dough. Hard fit now, up in trip, he appeals.

Danger

9 Always Sure (Bet Now: $8.00) is just about at peak fitness and can take this out. He had the inside pattern in his corner here a fortnight back but even allowing for that, he was quite good in defeat and kept finding the line behind Putt For Dough. Think with a more positive ride, up in distance, he’s a key threat.

Long Shot

2 Victory Lane (Bet Now: $6.50) is dangerous. Team Price trained gelding that ran in the Provincial Championship Final where he ran last but did get into a tricky spot from the wide gate and was never a factor. Ran second in the Qualifier the start prior and was strong in defeat. Not sure he wins, but a first four threat.

Race 3. (12:30) Tab Highway Hcp (C2) 1500m

Back Me

9 Gentileschi (Bet Now: $2.10) looks a pretty sharp filly for Messara/Gavranich. She is 2/2 this time in, both on the home deck at Scone, bolting up each time. Resumed over 1300m before stretching her brilliance to 1400m and she was more impressive. The stable are so good until they get to a Highway, so that’s the knock, but she looks promising.

Danger

7 Zelgaria (Bet Now: $12.00) has only won the one race but does bring strong form lines and has the Matty Dunn polish. He ran over 1200m at Doomben last time and was game in defeat but was no match for stablemate and Stakes performer Lubrication. That form clearly reads well for a Highway so he commands respect.

Long Shot

1 Shipshape (Bet Now: $21.00) has had a few runs for Richard Jackson after formerly being with James Cummings. Latest run came behind Belvedere Boys in the Highway from a fortnight back at Randwick. He was like most for the meeting. Just couldn’t pick his feet up but he was far from disgraced in defeat behind the Matty Dunn horse. He can run an improved race.

Race 4. (13:05) Blakes Marine (Bm78) 1800m

Back Me

3 Kureder (Bet Now: $5.50) looks to have come back in really good order. Chris Waller trained gelding that ran at the midweeks at Canterbury and was a real eye catcher from the back, closing off with purpose when second to Terrestar. He is a two time winner at 2400m so the rise to 1800m from 1550m is ideal…he appeals.

Danger

6 Waltham (Bet Now: $13.00) is a very interesting runner. Former Irish stayer that makes his Australian debut for Matty Smith. He is a 2400m+ it appears so 1800m is on the short side but it is a decent kick off point for hm and he has trialled up nicely in readiness for his Australian debut. Watch the market.

Long Shot

1 Toesonthenose (Bet Now: $8.00) is racing well for John Sargent and can take this out without surprising. He ran at the midweeks at Canterbury last time when wide no cover for a fair chunk of the race but credit to him, he stayed on and was quite sound in defeat behind Terrestar. Fitter and up in trip, more economical run, he’s dangerous for sure.

Race 5. (13:40) Hawkesbury Xxxx Gold Rush 1100m

Back Me

4 Parisal (Bet Now: $2.90) looks the straight bat play. James Cummings trained mare that resumes, having not raced since Dec 30 when producing an end of prep run, finishing down the track behind Lady Laguna. Been given a good break, sprints very well fresh and loved her recent trial win at Canterbury. Hard to beat I’d suggest.

Danger

1 Spacewalk (Bet Now: $3.30) is the class of the field and class will carry him a long way. He resumes for James Cummings, having not raced since Dec 30 when near the speed throughout and presented to win but couldn’t quite finish the job when fourth to Zarastro. He is a good fresh horse and has trialled up enormous leading in.

Long Shot

13 Xtravagant Star (Bet Now: $6.00) has found winning form and she can certainly go on with it. Market wanted her with confidence when racing over 1110m at Doomben last time and despite a few nervous moments, class came to the fore and she was miles too good. Harder here, but good racing style and right down in the weights.

Race 6. (14:15) Hawkesbury Crown 1300m

Back Me

I am really warming towards the Kris Lees trained mare 13 Willinga Beast (Bet Now: $11.00). Connections are desperate to get a blacktype win to boost her price tag before the Magic Millions Sale. She is flying, she swims and given her record, she’s very well in at the weights. I think she only runs well.

Danger

6 Miss Hellfire (Bet Now: $5.50) looks clearly set for this race and the stable loves to target the race. She did more than enough fresh in the Wenona Girl before going to the Sapphire three weeks ago where she got off the speed and found the line well enough without threatening behind Wee Nessy. Hard fit and rising to 1300m, she rates highly.

Long Shot

11 Dalchini (Bet Now: $20.00) is a very frustrating mare to follow because she does have the talent. She just has an awful racing style. She resumed three weeks back in the Sapphire. She got back to near last in the run and made up minimal headway in a race dominated by those in the first few. Has run well at this meeting previously, she is one for exotics.

Race 7. (14:50) Hawkesbury Guineas 1400m

Back Me

1 Schwarz (Bet Now: $2.40) looks to have a bit on these. John O’Shea trained colt that is going to try and follow the path of Hawaii Five Oh, winning this before winning the Fred Best and get a start in the Stradbroke. He has been somewhat luckless in two runs back from a spell, the latest in the Arrowfield Sprint. J Mac sticks, maps to settle on speed and up to 1400m…he’s clearly the one to beat.

Danger

8 General Salute (Bet Now: $13.00) is an above average three year old for Ryan/Alexiou. He comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Slipper Day in the Darby Munro where he was very good late from the back without threatening when fourth to Brave Mead. The form out of that has been solid enough I felt and back to this level, gee I think he’s going to take beating.

Long Shot

11 Bojangles (Bet Now: $16.00) is a nice type for Kim Waugh on the up. This three year old took on the older horses when resuming over 1100m here and despite a few nervous moments, his class kicked in late and he was too good. Jumps straight to 1400m, but will press forward and has good upside to come.

Race 8. (15:25) Hawkesbury Gold Cup 1600m

Back Me

I reckon a throw at the stumps is on the cards via 12 Alegron (Bet Now: $101.00), who has his first run for Bjorn Baker after formerly being with James Cummings. He is better suited over a bit further but he won’t mind give in the track, he’s trialled up really well to my eye and stable is very good when it comes to cast offs and improving them. Reckon he’s worth a small speck.

Danger

11 Welwal (Bet Now: $7.50) is absolutely flying for Chris Waller. Three runs back from a spell have been strong, the latest being several weeks back in the Doncaster Prelude when a closing third, a strong third to Another Wil. He has been hit and miss throughout his career down under but this prep, there seems to be more consistency.

Long Shot

18 More Secrets (Bet Now: $31.00) is three weeks between runs for Team Hawkes since contesting the Queen Of The Turf where she was outclassed and I am not sure 1600m at that level is her go behind Zougotcha. No horse of that quality here and back to this level, she handles wet ground…she can win for sure.

Race 9. (16:05) The Lawn Shed (Bm88) 1400m

Imagine what you could be buying instead.

Back Me

17 Fall For Cindy (Bet Now: $4.20) looks to be in for a really good prep. John O’Shea trained mare that resumed at the midweeks at Warwick Farm where she got back off the speed and was held up at times before eventually getting clear and was decent enough in her return behind Green Shadows. Good improvement to come and right down in the weights, she appeals.

Danger

4 Kibou (Bet Now: $3.80) is a quality galloper for GaiBott that resumes. This guy is first up after a frustrating Spring prep where he was tested in good races but didn’t measure up. Been given a good break, trialled well leading in, will press forward and take catching. But, market will be the guide.

Long Shot

3 Coastwatch (Bet Now: $19.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Team Freedman. He resumed with an eye catching effort at Kembla behind Astero and was much the same at Rosehill behind a really good horse, Gringotts. Tick over trial was good and if they go silly in front, look for him to be charging late.

Race 10. (16:45) Clarendon Tavern (Bm78) 1100m

Imagine what you could be buying instead.

Back Me

11 Chilli Filly (Bet Now: $3.80) is a good filly that is first up, potentially with eyes towards Scone. This girl resumes, having not raced since Wave Day at the Gold Coast when back off the speed and kept chasing but was no match late for Junqueira. Good fresh record and has trialled up really nicely in readiness for her return.

Danger

3 Comtemporary (Bet Now: $4.80) is a James Cummings trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Dec 30 at Randwick when giving them a start and a beating to win impressively over 1200m. He isn’t normally a first up horse, but I have been taken by his two trials in readiness for the return.

Long Shot

7 Smashing Eagle (Bet Now: $4.80) has an engine under the hood for Ryan/Alexiou. He resumed at the midweeks at Canterbury where he got back to near last in the run and didn’t really get out until it was all over so I’d be very forgiving of the run behind Curtis Island. If he gets clear air from the outset and room to move, time to wind up, he’s dangerous.
