The three day Warrnambool Carnival continues on Wednesday, headlined by the Galleywood Hurdle (3200m) and Wangoom Handicap (1200m). The weather forefcast is for showers, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:20) Warrnambool City Volkswagen 1200m
8 Yellow Sam (Bet Now:Β $2.90) on top in the opener. Lindsey Smith trained filly that is on debut off the back of a sharp jumpout win at Terang where she led throughout, seemingly moved well (hard to be definitive given how awful the jumpout vision was), but the tick was she ran good time relative to the morning. Gate one, D Oliver aboard, home track, she’s here to rock and roll.
1 Jamarra (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is the clear pick of the raced brigade. Maher/Eustace polish with J Allen aboard and Blinkers first time for this colt, who looked all over a winner when racing at Caulfield last start but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Liberty Steps. Has to be respected.
2 Dashing (Bet Now:Β $10.00) has home track advantage and could surprise at odds. He is having his debut here off the back of a Terang jumpout, where he ran in a different heat to Yellow Sam. Overall time was much slower, but his finale was good, and I liked there was a response when asked for an effort. First four threat.
Race 2. (11:50) West. Dist. Electrical Mdn 1400m
Stack of angles you could take here. I’ll take a chance with 10 Hollywood Siren (Bet Now:Β $9.00), resuming for the Maher/Eustace camp. Johnny Allen rides and I can only assume he rides and chooses this filly over Toregene, who is just about favourite, given he rode that horse in a couple of jumpouts yet goes with this filly, who has caught the eye in a couple of jumpouts. Should get decent cover from the gate and be strong late.
15 Toregene (Bet Now:Β $3.50) could easily blow this field away. Blinkers first time, J Kah on, home track Carnival, kitchen sink job here it looks like to make a winning debut. Second last jumpout, loved the way he moved to win. Latest jumpout, he was pushed right out and did respond, but wasn’t as impressive to the eye, but the tick is that there was a response.
If you looking at this purely from a form perspective, 6 Egyptian Icon (Bet Now:Β $4.80) should be favourite. Resumed in a 1400m maiden at Pakenham when on speed and battled away pretty well in defeat, but was beaten by a star in Illation, who looks a Group l horse. Bowman on, if he can overcome the gate, he’ll be hard to beat.
Race 3. (12:20) Bottle-o Warrnambool Mdn Plate 1700m
I saw there was $71+ available in early markets for 7 Super Sntich (Bet Now:Β $41.00). I’ll take a slice of that even though he could potentially get to triple figures. I thought he was excellent at Stawell last start. The horse in front of him was going nowhere, so he had to make his own run, earlier than anticipated, and I loved the way he kept finding the line when third, beaten just under two lengths. 1700m yes, Visors on to sharpen him up, and in a very open race, he’s worth a throw at the stumps at odds.
1 Eaglesaurus (Bet Now:Β $9.50) will love the rise in trip for Simon Zahra. Ran on a vesy testing Bendigo track at the midweeks and was good in a slog to the line when a close up third to Bors. Like him up to 1700m and with luck from a tricky gate, he’ll only run well I’d suggest. Key threat.
10 Weightman (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is nearing a maiden win. Whether it’s here, not sure. He ran over the mile at Warracknabeal last start when ridden a touch warm and stuck on pretty well in defeat, albeit safely held on the line by Master Of Coin. 1700m should be fine and is one for exotics.
Race 4. (12:55) W'bool G'hound Cup Tonight Mdn 1700m
6 Henry The Lion (Bet Now:Β $4.20) should love the rise in trip. Richard Cully trained gelding that resumed over 1300m at Stawell where he was ridden quite cold, sitting near last in the run, and was solid late without threatening. Big tick he gets to the 1700m, Billy Egan sticks and should be strong late.
3 Cotton Eye Joe (Bet Now:Β $9.50) looks suited up to 1700m. He resumed in the same race mentioned above as Henry The Lion and finished ahead of him, a pass mark for a horse that is better suited over further, which he gets here, and given how hot the stable was yesterday, he commands respect.
8 Meiner Legacy (Bet Now:Β $41.00) is a fascinating runner. Aaron Purcell trains this former Japanese galloper, who had a two run Australian prep last time in and didn’t fire. His recent jumpout at Terang, he looked like a donkey, but I find him fascinating given he is Japanese bred and stable gets John Allen to steer.
Race 5. (13:30) Decron Dunroe Stpl (bm120) 3450m
8 Under The Bridge (Bet Now:Β $2.25) isn’t the most gifted jumper going around, but in a race like this, if he jumps just okay and gets around safely, his flat speed will come to the fore. Resumed on the flat at Werribee over the mile where he was really well tried at a price and he was the only horse you wanted to be on, spanking them and running fast time. Trial last week was a lovely piece of work and he’s ready to go.
1 Runaway (Bet Now:Β $2.20) has to lump a big weight but there is a reason for that. He is the class runner, by some distance. Didn’t do a bad job fresh in the Echuca Cup before bumping into Saunter Boy in a hurdle race at Pakenham. Steeple trial last week was impressive and he gets Steve Pateman.
7 Pierian Spring (Bet Now:Β $41.00) could pinch a first four spot for Team McEvoy. Ran in a steeple at Pakenham last start and tried hard, but was clearly no match for them in a hot race, won by Valac, who would be odds on in a race like this. I doubt he wins, but one for multiples.
Race 6. (14:05) Galleywood Hrdl 3200m
Looks a race in three. Leaning towards 4 Out And Dreaming (Bet Now:Β $4.40), purely because of a likely heavy track on the cards. He clashed with Saunter Boy at Pakenham last start in what was an epic clash, with the Maher/Eustace grey getting the verdict. The wetter the better for Out And Dreaming and he has the flat speed on this ground.
1 Saunter Boy (Bet Now:Β $2.25) is the big gun and is #1 seed in terms of Australian hurdlers. He had enough at Pakenham but class and Pateman got the best out of him late, getting him home just. If this track was a Soft 5/6, he’d be a $1.10 chance. The heavy track, testing track, is the knock.
7 Eckhart (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is a knockout hope. He ran third in the Pakenham race mentioned above. He just lost ight of the bunny in the Pakenham race but finished off with purpose to run third. You’d like to think he won’t be as far back this time around and his best is certainly good enough to give this a shake.
Race 7. (14:45) Sinclair Wilson (bm70) 1000m
Second throw at the stumps for the meeting, this time via 16 Sunburnt (Bet Now:Β $21.00). Bill Cerchi has this horse absolutely flying. Has been kept on ice, having not raced since March 18 at Terang when back and spotting those in front a start, but really liked his finale when second to Battleground, producing good late splits. Sweet Mary won on the weekend, so the form reads well, he won’t know himself with 54kg, and off a hot speed, he’ll launch late.
4 Hypersonic (Bet Now:Β $3.70) has sustained speed and given how the track played yesterday, he does have to come right into the mix. Dominant first up win at Ballarat before going to Caulfield when on speed and tiring late behind Embeller. Back to 1000m, significant jockey upgrade, he’ll give a sight.
9 Bones (Bet Now:Β $31.00) is a Mitch Freedman trained gelding that resumes. This son of Eurozone is first up, with his last run coming on December 12 at Bendigo when looking a tired horse and needing the paddock behind Cosmic Rhapsody. Couple of sharp jumpouts to get ready, from gate one, he’s in with a shout.
Race 8. (15:20) Wangoom Hcp 1200m
Intent x 100 here with 15 Triple Missile (Bet Now:Β $6.50), who makes his Victorian debut for Lindsey Smith after formerly racing in WA. His form reads so well from over there, including a win in the Spring/Summer where on times/ratings, he would have just about won the Group l Winterbottom. Jumped out well enough at Terang and Blinkers first time, he’s here to rock and roll I’d suggest.
13 Chassis (Bet Now:Β $4.60) has done little wrong in two runs for the Maher/Eustace camp. Just missed fresh in the Hareeba at Mornington. She then went to Caulfield and had no luck behind Juan Diva when back to 1100m. Back up to 1200m, jockey upgrade, she’s hard to beat.
If they overdo it in front, look for 8 Frankie Pinot (Bet Now:Β $19.00) to launch at these late. He resumes for Team McEvoy, having not raced since a strong win over the mile on Pakenham Cup Day back in December. Couple of jumpouts to get ready, he swims and should be strong at the end.
Race 9. (16:00) Prydes Easifeed (bm70) 1400m
9 Flash Flood (Bet Now:Β $3.20) for me. Maher/Eustace trained gelding that is several weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Sandown when back off the speed and spotting those in front a start, but his finale was more than sound behind an in form Vasmee. Tick over jumpout was a strong piece of work and with Bowman to steer, he appeals.
2 Sonaree (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is working up to a win for Tom Dabernig. He has been runner up in both runs this time in, the latest at Terang when on speed and tried hard, but was no match for Stripped Black. Home track advantage with J Allen to steer, he’ll be around the mark.
17 Nicajon (Bet Now:Β $6.00) will love the rise to 1400m. He ran over 1100m at Morphettville a few weeks back, an unsuitable trip, and I thought he worked to the line pretty well in defeat behind a handy horse in Calypso Reign. Like him up in trip, fitter, and he has a liking for this track.
Race 10. (16:30) Whalers Hotel (bm64) 1700m
1 Lunatic Fringe (Bet Now:Β $5.00) might want one more but the stable is going well and her return was quite encouraging, which came over the mile at Sandown when a solid fourth to a pretty classy filly in My Whisper. I think that form is good enough to measure up here. Just whether she wants one more, not sure, but Blinkers on and a strong recent jumpout suggests there is intent.
11 Hard Questions (Bet Now:Β $5.00) looks a horse of some talent for Lindsey Smith. Ran over 1500m at Geelong last start where he got a bit lost it looked when Fry asked for an effort. Tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish the race off. D Oliver on with Blinkers first time, he’s hard to beat if they can run on.
16 Wahine Toa (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is better suited over further, but has the Maher/Eustace polish and Hugh Bowman to steer. Hasn’t raced since Ballarat Cup Day over 2400m when a game fourth to Blandford Lad in what was survival of the fittest. 2000m+ is when she’ll come into her own, but have to respect the stable.
