4/3/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot

Nine races will be run and won at Ascot on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

Siding with 3 Brave Shot (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Team Williams trained colt that is on debut off the back of a couple of trials this prep, the latest seeing him win a trial at Lark Hill over 1100m where he moved really well under Pike and had something in the tank despite a narrow margin. Pike has ridden in both trials and he sticks with the colt for start one, so that is a good enough lead for me.

2 Alotofbanter (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. Son of A Lot for Simon Miller that is having start one. He trialled really well at Belmont back on December 19 and what I liked is that when Carbery asked for an effort, he responded nicely and drew clear. The gate makes things tricky, as does the fact he hasn’t been seen for several weeks, but have to respect this stable.

6 Platinum Shot (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the race experience on her side to command respect. She debuted during the Summer Carnival in the Crystal Slipper when leading and giving a kick but couldn’t quite get there when third to Soaring Solo. Just one soft 400m trial to get ready, but with the race experience on her side, racing pattern, she’ll give a sight I’m sure.

Back to 1000m I find interesting with 3 Prawns Eleven (Bet Now:  $SP.00) but he is a colt with talent for William Lewthwaite. He resumed over 1200m at Pinjarra two weeks ago where I thought Pike gave him a 12/10 and was there to win but couldn’t quite get there when second to Supersession. Back in trip is the query, whether he is run off his legs, but he will be very strong at the end.

I have no idea what to make of 1 Street Parade (Bet Now:  $SP.00) and his run in the Magic Millions. From what I saw on the replay, he missed a stride a couple of times and his action went so Parnham eased him out of the race. To me, he is a 1000m only horse so back in depth with the claim for Campbell, if he runs to his best, he’ll go awfully close.

6 Platinum Class (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a coming winner…not sure it’s here given she is still a maiden but she can fill a first four spot. She ran over this track/distance last time out at the midweeks and was good to the line from the inside gate when a close up third to Cut The Talk. As I said, I don’t think she is good enough to beat these, but for exotics, I can certainly entertain her.

6 Senorita Dorotea (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks one of the hardest to beat for Team Casey. She’s had two runs back from a spell, the latest being several weeks ago at this track/distance when getting a mile out of her ground but she finished her race off quite strong behind an in form Tadweer. If she is able to settle closer in the run, gee I think she’ll take beating in a very winnable race.

5 Supersession (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an Adam Durrant trained son of Sessions that commands respect. I loved the fight he showed to win at Pinjarra last time. He was there to be run down but he found plenty under CJP to fend them off and he was strong to the line in winning. Should get a lovely run in transit from the gate and finds a winnable race once again. Hard to beat.

Back to 1000m I do like for 4 Wednesday (Bet Now:  $SP.00). This mare ran over 1200m at Pinjarra two weeks back where she was tucked in behind the speed and seemingly had her chance but just failed to run the trip out when third to Dream To Me. Fast run 1000m should be fine and if she’s within range on the turn, she’s good enough to be a threat.

5 Man Crush (Bet Now:  $SP.00), if he runs up to the first up win, he’ll be taking care of this lot. Luke Fernie trained three year old that resumed with a dominant win in the WA 3YO Magic Millions two weeks ago at Pinjarra, producing sustained speed from the front and giving nothing else a look in, winning with ease and running time. Takes on the older horses but he has a class edge and gets Pike.

3 Metallon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned in pretty good order for Todd Harvey. Class got him home fresh here before going to Pinjarra where he was near the front of the pack down the straight and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when third to Beads. Third up from a spell so he should be at peak fitness and he does tend to save his best for Ascot.

1 Spin The Knife (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best. He had his first run for Stephen Miller in the Beads race from two weeks back at Pinjarra and I thought he was pretty good in defeat given he was fresh, just feeling the pinch late behind Beads. Great record at Ascot and while he is best suited at 1000m/1100m, he has the quality to run a bold race.

8 Ex Sport Man (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying I think for Steve Wolfe and I do think getting to 1400m will be ideal. I was keen on him two weeks ago over 1200m at Pinjarra and gee the ride was negative from McGruddy I thought. He had a chance to get into the three wide line but instead stayed in and hoped for luck, which didn’t eventuate. Has run well at the track/distance previously and should lob into a beaut spot from the gate.

7 Western Knight (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an Adam Durrant trained four year old that resumes. He hasn’t raced since September 24 over the mile at Belmont where CJP rode him like he was the best horse in the race and in a driving finish, he was too good, ending the prep on a high. He’s won two trials to get ready for the return and gets Pike first up, so the intent is there to suggest he’s here to play fresh.

Back up to 1400m I do like for 1 Time Scale (Bet Now:  $SP.00). She ran over 1200m here last Saturday when attempting to lead throughout and she did give a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Tadweer. If she lands in front and gets some level of control, I think she’ll take beating, especially if the track is playing towards on speed, which it can.

3 Aiyza (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top. This filly has been doing a good job against the older horses in recent runs, the last start being a big win from near last on the turn to round them up in style at Belmont over this trip. Can settle much closer in the run from the good draw and does have a liking for Ascot, so if she runs up to last start, she’s hard to beat for sure.

7 Capo Veloce (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m. He ran over 1200m at Pinjarra a fortnight back where he got back in the run and while he was never a threat, he made up headway and was pretty good in defeat behind a progressive youngster, Supersession. Like him up in trip, is proven at it from last prep, and will be dangerous if the inside gate is used to advantage.

9 Travel Warning (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Smart Missile that resumes for David Harrison. He does hold a nomination for the Derby, but whether it’s a touch too late for him, not sure, but he is a handy three year old. His last run was Dec 21 over 2200m here when game in defeat behind Kernan Rock. Resumes without a trial but if they overdo it in front, he’ll be strong at the end.

8 Here’s Dreaming (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the one to beat for me. Luke Fernie trained mare that ran two weeks ago at Pinjarra when wide throughout yet kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat behind Twice A Fortnight. Gets Pike aboard, can settle closer in the run this time around and third up from a break, she should just about be at peak fitness.

4 Born To Talk (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very honest animal for Neville Parnham that is rarely far away from the action. That was the case three weeks ago at this track/distance. He was near the speed throughout and tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite finish it off, nabbed late by Cable Boy. Good track/distance record, genuine, maps ideally, he’s one of the key contenders.

9 Leica Jaguar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is yet to tick the 1200m box but is usually thereabouts and can fill a first four spot. He ran over 1000m here last Saturday in a much stronger race than this and I loved the way he closed his race off from near last when a close up fourth to Moi Choux. With a soft trip, I think 1200m will be okay, and off last run, he appeals as a winning chance.

The gate looks tricky for 7 Starchienne (Bet Now:  $SP.00) but gee it’s hard to knock the way she is racing at the moment. Ran over this track/distance last Wednesday where she lobbed into a beaut spot under Pike. It was just a matter of him pushing the button and once that eventuated, away she went and she was dominant. That was her first run at the mile and she passed with flying colours. Hard to beat off that effort.

5 Mountain Ash (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the key threats. He ran over this track/distance last Saturday where he led throughout and gee the win was good because he did work to land on speed and copped pressure, but he found, drew clear and safely held a margin on the line. Should land in a plum spot from the gate, likely leading again, and proving hard to run down.

Back to the mile I do like for 4 Currimundi (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He ran over 2000m at Pinjarra two weeks back where he got a mile put of his ground and tried to make headway but was never a threat, finishing down the track behind Soviet Spy. They’ve tried him at a trip and it didn’t work. Back in trip, if there is petrol left in the tank, he appeals.

7 Be Optimistic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will do me. Luke Fernie trained mare that is flying I think. She ran over the mile two weeks ago at Pinjarra and was very good from near last to finish second to Bragwell. Whilst Holly Watson has been riding the mare well, it’s a big upgrade with Pike taking over. Half positive ride compared to last time and I think she’ll be too good.

3 Weaponson (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in recent runs for Dan Morton. He was 1600m back to 1400m at Pinjarra a fortnight and I thought he was given a peach by Pike. Was there to win but couldn’t quite get there when second to Multinational. Gets back up in trip now which suits and with the claim for Campbell, he appeals as one of the main contenders.

1 Cheval De Vega (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give a sight. He ran in the Multinational race from two weeks back at Pinjarra where he attempted to lead throughout and he gave a good kick, looking home but just couldn’t quite finish it off, tiring to run fourth. He was 1600m back to 1400m so back up to the mile, on speed, he’ll take running down.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 7 Starchienne

NEXT BEST: Race Nine Number 7 Be Optimistic

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 8 Ex Sport Man
