A solid eight event meeting will be run and won under the lights at Moonee Valley this Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (18:15) L'brokes Same Race Multi-rs0mw 1200m
2 Latvian (Bet Now:Β $1.65) looks suited here. Debuted in the Talindert and while he was never really a factor, I thought his finale behind I’mlovin’ya was encouraging. Drops a bit in grade/depth. has the Blinkers applied straight away and does have the Freedman/Zahra combo.
5 Zennzella (Bet Now:Β $2.35) isn’t a long shot but is third pick. Debuted in the Talindert when kept safe in betting, due to J Mac being on, and she didn’t fire in a plain effort. It’s been a lean start to the year for the stable, but this filly did show promise in the jumpouts, so not dismissing her just yet.
4 Divine Charm (Bet Now:Β $23.00) either runs third or fourth. Divine Prophet filly on debut for Jack Laing and at least she has decent trial form, with her trial being behind Zamborghini, who spanked them at Ballarat on Sunday, so it reads okay. Just not sure she’s good enough to threaten as a winning prospect.
Race 2. (18:45) Tour Edge (bm64) 1200m
9 Snakey Mag (Bet Now:Β $4.60) for me. Lightly raced mare that has been strong in two career outings. Debuted with a strong maiden win at Stony Creek before going to Sandown last Wednesday and liked the way she found the line late when second to dominant winner Fire. That form reads A1 for this and big tick is getting to 1200m.
Beware the unbeaten horse so respecting 2 Jucconi (Bet Now:Β $3.50) for the McEvoy camp. 2/2 to start his career in the Winter, both wins coming on Synthetic tracks at Pakenham and Ballarat. His recent jumpout work has been strong and if he overcomes the draw, he’ll be around the mark.
5 Magnum Bullet (Bet Now:Β $9.00) is an honest animal for Mick Sell that is around the mark more often than not. He didn’t handle the downhill run at Kilmore last time but he balanced up and surged hard late to get the win. Gets Ollie on from a soft draw, he’s a knockout chance.
Race 3. (19:15) Quest Moonee Valley Mdn Plate 1600m
2 Bors (Bet Now:Β $3.30) gets the Blinkers on first time and I’d say it is just about D-Day for him. Sat on speed at Sandown last time out and seemed to have his chance, failing to finish it off when fourth to Prix De Turn, who goes around in the Australian Guineas. Blinkers on and M Zahra steering, he’s likeable.
I have no idea what D Pagan has in store for 4 Turn it Up Tommy (Bet Now:Β $2.30), whether he thinks he’s a Derby horse? Not sure, but his resumption was encouraging, which came at Ballarat when a closing second to Improvident. Fitter, up to the mile and does get a significant jockey upgrade.
9 Firm As A Rock (Bet Now:Β $15.00) showed vast improvement last time out at Benalla at the mile after some average form prior. She got a mile out of her ground but liked the way she finished off her race to finish third. If gate one is used to advantage, I think she could be dangerous at a price if she holds that form.
Race 4. (19:45) The Ranvet Valley Final (bm78) 2500m
1 Playoffs (Bet Now:Β $2.80) should appreciate the rise in trip. He has the Maher/Eustace polish and we know the record the stable has in 2400m+ races. He ran third behind Crystal Pegasus two weeks ago and I thought he stuck to the task pretty well in defeat, albeit he did race like he wants further, which he gets here.
2 French Moon (Bet Now:Β $2.25) has been up a little while for Symon Wilde but it seems the deeper the prep, the better he gets. He beat an average bunch at Bendigo last time out, but he fair dinkum made a mess of them. Overall, this is an ordinary race, so he has to rate highly.
5 Eaton (Bet Now:Β $12.00) has a liking for this track and is hard fit after racing last Friday night over 3000m here when chasing and trying his guts out when third to Jekklyl’n’hyde, beaten just over a half length. The trip will be no issue, he can slide forward and give plenty of cheek.
Race 5. (20:15) Ladbrokes 55 Second Chall-bm78 955m
6 Smirnova (Bet Now:Β $1.75) is short but I think she’ll be winning. Talented filly for Team Hawkes that resumes after a three run prep in the Spring to start her career, winning each time and was impressive in all three outings. Has trialled up quite well leading in and finds a very winnable 78.
5 Okay To Pay (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is putting together a good little record for Phillip Stokes. Had the suck run behind the speed when racing over 1000m here last time out before getting the split and driving hard to win. Runner up bolted in last Wednesday, so the form reads well. Just bumps into a smart one.
9 Island Edition (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is on the seven day back up after racing here last Friday night in a four horse field. He should have won but when it came to getting clear, he just had no luck and went to the line like a barrier trial. If he gets the rub of the green here, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 6. (20:45) Msc Signs Electr. Servs.-bm70 1200m
I’ll take a chance with 5 Deny Knowledge (Bet Now:Β $5.50), a former European mare making her Australian debut for Mick Kent. Formerly raced in England/Ireland and the form around her doesn’t read too bad. Couple of jumpouts to get ready, I think she finds a winnable race. Just want a market push.
4 Cirrina (Bet Now:Β $2.80) is a Michael Moroney trained mare that resumes. This girl had a one run prep in the Spring, which saw her win impressively at Mornington with sustained speed coming to the fore. Like the way she has jumped out leading in and gets in quite well after the claim.
1 Don’ttelltheboss (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is a quality mare that resumes for the Griffiths/De Kock camp. She teased pretty much right throughout last prep to win races but just kept finding one or two better, but was around the mark. Good fresh record, jumped out okay and Alana Kelly gets on well with the mare.
Race 7. (21:15) The Daemco Valley Final (bm78) 1200m
I like 4 Beehunter (Bet Now:Β $6.00). Ran last Wednesday at Sandown and I thought his run was full of merit. Pulled hard in the run in a very slowly run race and despite doing that, he found the line with purpose when a close up fourth to Eluding. Tempo should be more genuine here, he’ll get his chance to launch late.
11 Evening Glory (Bet Now:Β $4.80) is a few weeks between runs for Team Freedman since racing at Caulfield where he wasn’t totally suited by the race shape but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off in a dash home behind Melba Storm. I think he’ll take beating in a race like this.
I am giving respect to 10 The Last Napoleon (Bet Now:Β $13.00) but gee I think he’s poorly placed here. I am surprised he isn’t in the 955m race because it’s clear that short course racing is his go in life. 1200m does see him out IMO but drawn wide, he’ll snick back, do no work and look to dash at them late.
Race 8. (21:45) Lawnrules.com.au (bm64) 1200m
9 Throw At Da Stumps (Bet Now:Β $20.00) is well named because I think he is worth a speck in the get out. Resumed over 1000m at Sandown where he was near the speed throughout and battled on pretty well in defeat behind a quality horse in Lloyd’s Crown. I think that form reads pretty well and maps okay from the draw.
1 Elite Icon (Bet Now:Β $2.00) is a talented animal for the McEvoy camp. Dominant winner here two back before racing at the track again when on speed and tried his guts out but was nabbed late by Hesket. Up in the weights, but lands on speed again and will be tough to run down.
8 Silly Salmon (Bet Now:Β $7.50) has been pretty good in two runs back from a break. Close up third down the straight at Flemington fresh on Rapid Racing Day. Then went to Pakenham when smashed in betting and he led throughout to win impressively. Lands on speed and will give a good sight.
