Ten races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday for George Moore Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.
George Moore Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the George Moore Stakes
Race 1. (13:03) Written By-1st Yearlings 2022 1200m
1 Capital Tower (Bet Now: $3.10) looks a safe option in the first. He was smashed in betting when debuting over 1110m and #TeamThey got it spot on. Was on speed throughout and seemingly bolting. Just a matter of Orman pushing the button and once he did, it was race over. Off that, 1200m no issue and should take beating here.
2 Mishani Mental (Bet Now: $7.00) has been a busy boy, with this being his sixth start. Loved the way he knuckled down to win at Doomben, driving hard between runners and nabbing Heroic Son on the peg. Les Ross juveniles love wet ground so with that set up here, he clearly appeals.
10 Louisiana Star (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Star Witness filly on debut. She has been given two trials to get ready for start one, so has had a good grounding for what is likely to be a brutal 1100m assignment. Both trials were good pieces of work and is bred to be okay on wet ground.
Race 2. (13:38) T'bred Indus. Ctry Cup (rs0mw) 1600m
At the time of writing this preview up, there was no weight allowance for Brad Stewart aboard 12 HI Harry (Bet Now: $4.20) so if he is to ride at 55kg, then that fact alone is a good lead for me because he is a jockey who rides heavy. 56.5kg is the lightest he has ridden at his past 50 rides. That aside, the horse is flying and is a proven metro performer when he was with Steve O’Dea. Good in defeat at Roma last time, he’ll get run of the race from the draw and will do me.
4 Doom (Bet Now: $15.00) is racing very well this time in, albeit at Non-TAB meets. Put together a couple of wins on the bounce before a close up third in a heat of the Stampede, his first run in five weeks and I assume that was a prep run for this race. Stable finds Jim Byrne and maps super.
8 Sugar Buzz (Bet Now: $15.00) is in with a shout here. He has run well at TAB meets not that long ago and comes here in winning after making a mess of them last time out at Wondai. Didn’t beat much, but won by a space. He’ll need luck from the draw but a chance if he does get the luck.
Race 3. (14:13) Eagle Way 2000m
If he gets luck from the gate then 3 Ashgrove (Bet Now: $2.40) is clearly the one to beat. He broke his maiden tag over the mile here last time and it was arrogant the way he put them away and eased down late to win comfortably, clocking fast late splits. Bred to eat up the extra ground and Maloney sticks.
5 Deep Tempest (Bet Now: $5.50) looks to be heading in the right direction for David Vandyke. Strong maiden winner two back at the Sunny Coast before going to the mile at the same track and worked to the line really well, running second co Caboche. Bred to eat up 2000m and in a good camp.
7 Balmaurice (Bet Now: $21.00) should love the rise in trip for the Lipp/Hahn camp. Ran in the Caboche race from two weeks back and was a real eye catcher from the back in a race dominated by the leader. He was only second up there after a plain resumption so you’d like to think there is plenty of room for improvement.
Race 4. (14:48) Roku Gin Ctry Stampede (rs0mw) 1110m
Hard to knock 10 Wall Street Tycoon (Bet Now: $4.80) and the way he is going about it this time in. 5/5 this time in, the latest being a narrow win at Longreach in a Heat of this Series, but it was run in fast overall time. He is a short course specialist. 1110m is as far as he wants but the soft gate helps his cause.
2 Piracy (Bet Now: $4.50) is a beauty for Team Sears that has to be respected. Strong winner over 800m at Dalby two back before winning a Heat of this Series at Chinchilla when lumping 64kg. Tick over trial last Tuesday at Doomben was strong and is a proven performer in town.
I couldn’t back 5 Raiden (Bet Now: $31.00) to win but I think he’s a must for multiples. Doesn’t win often but he’s a very consistent animal who is rarely far away. Stuck to the task well at Clermont last time when a close up third. Likely going to be dragged back from the gate but will be strong at the end.
Race 5. (15:28) Winning Rupert Plate 1200m
3 Minto’s Paradise (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Les Kelly trained three year old that is above average. 2/2 this time in, both wins coming on his home track at the Gold Coast. First up beat the older horses in a Class 2 before going to a 1400m 3YO race, made a mess of them and smashed the clock. He’ll take beating here.
9 Enabler (Bet Now: $19.00) deserves another chance. Steve Tregea trained three year old that created quite an impression on debut at his home track at Toowoomba. He then went to the Sunny Coast when hard in the market but bombed the start and that sealed his fate. He looks to be loaded with talent, so give him another chance.
7 Muschialli (Bet Now: $11.00) should appreciate the rise to 1200m for Tony Gollan. Both runs back from a break have come over 1000m at the Sunny Coast, winning the maiden first up before a closing third to Coco Rox two weeks back in a good effort. Off that, 1200m here is fine and is a knockout hope.
Race 6. (16:08) Steven W. Sinclair Qlty 2000m
3 Wapiti (Bet Now: $3.20) is a very genuine animal for Gary Duncan that commands respect here. Was 1800m back to the mile at the Sunny Coast and I loved the way he dug in. He was there to be beaten but found plenty under pressure, kicked hard and was too good. Up in trip, he’ll take beating.
2 So You Win (Bet Now: $4.20) should love the rise to 2000m for Chris Waller. He was well specked at odds two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast and he ran up to that push, working home strongly from off the speed behind Wapiti, beaten a couple of lengths. Like him up in trip and has more upside than most.
6 Humbolt Current (Bet Now: $6.00) looks a definite improver here. Resumed over the mile at the Sunny Coast where he was unwanted in betting and while he didn’t threaten, he wasn’t too bad in defeat I thought. Much better second up here…might need one more, but has the quality.
Race 7. (16:48) Recognition Stakes 1350m
2 Niccanova (Bet Now: $5.00) loves getting his toe in so he gets conditions to suit and a great chance to get a win on the board this prep. Steve Tregea trained gelding that resumed three weeks ago in the Keith Noud. Didn’t get a whole lot of room to extend but was close up behind Tambo’s Mate. He should get room to move with the wet track and with upside to come, he’s going to take a power of beating.
3 The Harrovian (Bet Now: $5.00) is a key threat for me. He’s a ripper that resumes for Team Edmonds. Hasn’t raced since the Stradbroke where he ran a belter when a close up sixth to Tofane. That is clearly A1 form for a race like this, good trial to get ready and Callow on, he’ll take beating.
6 Silvera (Bet Now: $51.00) won’t mind getting his feet wet. Tony Gollan trained gelding that also resumed in the Keith Noud where he was back near last in the run and just whacked away without threatening. Has good wet track stats and the wide gate, at this stage of the day, should be a positive
Race 8. (17:28) Eureka Stud Classic 1200m
Forgive a good horse for one below par one and I’ll be doing that with 11 Eloquently (Bet Now: $9.50). Resumed last Friday night on the Sunny Coast Poly Track. Whether she handled it or not, not sure, but she was a $1.24 favourite and was beaten. But she’s a ripping mare who is a winner, back on the turf, fitter and maps with the emergencies out.
Gee 2 Wandabaa (Bet Now: $3.50) looks well placed in this grade. Quality mare for Kris Lees that comes here off the back of a career best effort when a closing second to Lost And Running after sitting wide throughout. Massive effort. 1200m on wet ground, set weights, if last start hasn’t busted her, she’ll take beating.
3 Kisukano (Bet Now: $26.00) can bounce back. Michael Nolan trained mare that was a drifter in the market first up at Eagle Farm on Cup Day but despite that, I thought she worked to the line pretty well when third to Kylease, beaten just under three lengths. If she can sit closer in the run, she’ll be hard to beat.
Race 9. (18:10) George Moore Stakes 1200m
Looking at this race with Wandabaa out. The wet track does concern me with 5 Zoustyle (Bet Now: $2.20), but I think he’s back. Smashed the clock first up over 1000m at the Sunny Coast in the Swiss Ace, breaking the track record. To me, he seems such a sharp short course 1000m/1100m horse, so 1200m on testing ground is the query, but Brad Stewart knows him so well, he’ll be out of trouble on speed and hard to run down.
4 Baller (Bet Now: $4.60) doesn’t want it too wet, but he’s in for a big Summer Carnival. Resumed in the Keith Noud and he was fabulous from the back, charging late to run second to impressive winner Tambo’s Mate. Fitter, if the track is okay for him, he’ll look the winner at some stage.
9 Shooting For Gold (Bet Now: $6.00) should prove hard to beat up to 1200m. O’Dea/Hoysted trained gelding that resumed in the Swiss Ace at the Sunny Coast and didn’t stop chasing when third to a very sharp sprinter, Zoustyle. Unbeaten second up and out to 1200m. he’ll take beating.
Race 10. (18:48) Encryption 1st Yearl.mode Plte 1200m
4 Stellar Magic (Bet Now: $5.50) should appreciate the rise to 1200m for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. Class got her home two back over 1000m at Eagle Farm. Stayed at the trip two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast and was good late from the back behind surprise winner Coco Rox. Is she just a 1000m horse or can she stretch her brilliance to 1200m? We’ll find out one way or the other here.
10 Putontheredlight (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented filly for Tony Gollan that can bounce back. Should have won two back at Doomben before racing there again a few back and while she did a bit of work to get on speed, overall, she had her chance i thought when third to Me Me Lagarde. Perhaps with a more economical run, she’ll be more effective.
1 Glorious Ruby (Bet Now: $7.50) is a ripping filly for Bryan Dais. Had a suck run behind the speed at the Sunny Coast last time and was there to win, but couldn’t quite get there, just missing out on picking up Coco Rox. Proven at 1200m, she’ll be on speed, she’s tough…definite winning chance.
