Race One: Coca Cola Amatil Plate (C&G) 1050m:
Back Me: Going with the Jason McLachlan trained Dieters (Best Odds: $6.50). This son of Written Tycoon trialled at Deagon over 800m and won that trial, and the time was pretty sharp, and on times it’s better than the horses that performed at the Gold Coast trials. Draws well and should prove hard to beat.
Big Danger: Double Superlative (Best Odds: $2.60) is a Kelly Schweida trained youngster who is yet to be seen in public but is well bred being by Turffontein out of a Red Ransom mare. Browne booked is a good lead, so watch market moves.
Roughie: Cash Dash (Best Odds: $5.00) is a Gold Coast youngster trained by Stephen Jones who won his barrier trial by nine lengths in a very dominant display. Time was quick in comparison to other 900m trials run that morning. Hard to beat.
Race Two: Coca Cola Life Plate (Fillies) 1050m:
Back Me: Dangerous Desire (Best Odds: $4.80) is a Sunshine Coast filly who won a trial at Deagon, and she did run faster time than Dieters, who I like in the opener. Drawn a touch awkwardly, but there are no real standouts here.
Big Danger: Spot The Diff (Best Odds: $5.00) is another Sunshine Coast visitor who did win a trial impressively on her home track, winning by four lengths and running pretty solid time. He has the visitors draw here, but there was plenty to like about the trial.
Roughie: She’s A Foxy Lady (Best Odds: $7.00) ran second to Dieters in the Deagon trial mentioned earlier and she went about her business nicely enough. She’s in the right yard and comes in a couple of gates after scratchings.
Race Three: Coke Zero Handicap 1050m:
Back Me: Sticking solid with Architect (Best Odds: $3.10). He was pretty good last weekend here when working home well late to run second to Riva De Lago, beaten just over two lengths. He will get the gun run from gate one and should take some beating.
Big Danger: Miss Cover Girl (Best Odds: $2.05) is a classy type that resumes here. She won during the Championships at Randwick and then performed quite well during the Brisbane Winter. No trials, but she flies fresh and is beautifully weighted given her Stakes form.
Roughie: Lucky Meteor (Best Odds: $18.00) is a talented sprinter who pulled his head off when resuming at Randwick and ran last behind Fell Swoop. Freshened up and he does race quite well at Doomben. Definite winning chance.
Race Four: Canadian Club Handicap 1600m:
Back Me: I’m Belucci (Best Odds: $2.90) for me here. He looked completely lost around the Beaudesert circuit last start yet his class and sheer ability got him home in impressive fashion. He still has a nomination for the Spring Champion next weekend, so a win here could see him join stablemate Too Good To Refuse on the float. Looks one of the better bets on the program. Ihhh’m Belucci for me here. He looked completely lost around the tight Beaudesert track last start, but his class and ability got him home comfortably in the end. Bigger track and up to the mile looks perfect and is one of the better bets on the program.
Big Danger: Real Ego (Best Odds: $10.00) had the charmed run last time out at Ipswich but he looked in big trouble when held up, but he eventually got clear and finished hard to grab victory. I doubt he can beat the top tip, but he should run well.
Roughie: Sentimental Prince (Best Odds: $10.00)ran last Friday night at the Sunny Coast and despite racing greenly, he really finished off his race with real purpose. Harder here, but there is upside and he looks talented.
Race Five: Jim Beam Handicap (OMW) 1350m:
Back Me: Danish Twist (Best Odds: $2.15) looks beautifully placed here. She strung together a couple of wins before going to Rosehill and running a beauty when a close up sixth to Something Secret, beaten just under a length. Barrier one and Browne on…ticks the boxes.
Big Danger: Kris Lees has a very good record when sending horses to Brisbane and he might get the job done here with Moon Symbol (Best Odds: $10.00), who worked home very strongly late last time out at Muswellbrook to run second. Drawn awkwardly, but Colless is on and this race isn’t strong outside the stablemate.
Roughie: Dysfunction (Best Odds: $11.00) took a tumble here two back but she showed no hard confidence wise with an excellent second to Beatniks. Draws a touch more awkwardly here, but outside the fall, and her form this time in has been very good.
Race Six: Cascade Handiap (OMW) 1350m:
Back Me: Gotyacovered (Best Odds: $6.00) didn’t look entirely comfortable around the tight turns at Ipswich, but he was just far too good for his rivals, and really hit the line with purpose. He will be suited back on a bigger track and isn’t badly treated at the weights after the claim.
Roughie: Doughty (Best Odds: $19.00) was specked at odds when racing over this track/distance and after receiving every chance behind the speed, he stuck to the task quite gamely when running third to Forgotten Years. Similar field here, draws well again and Fancourt remains on.
Big Danger: All Things In Time (Best Odds: $26.00) resumed at the Gold Coast a couple of weeks back and he really savaged the line late in the piece when a close up fourth. He should take good improvement off that, draws well and senior rider now on.
Race Seven: Mount Franklin Handicap 1600m:
Back Me: Gee I reckon David Payne has placed Paederos (Best Odds: $9.00) to absolute perfection here. He didn’t do much when down the track at Rosehill a couple of weeks back, but he comes here second up, looks the leader, in form apprentice and he is only carrying 51kg. If he can get over without too much trouble, he just about looks a good thing if he brings his best form.
Big Danger: Lauterbrunnen ran over this track/distance last time out and it was his first go at this level. He was far from disgraced when running fifth to My Quilter, who was well backed late. Should get every chance from gate one and Colless is back on, which is worth noting because he rode the rose to its two previous wins.
Roughie: If the track is firmer, then Amexed can improve. He wasn’t suited by the wet track when resuming from a near 12 month break, finishing last. Firmer track and up in trip, along with the added fitness, could spark improvement at huge odds.
Race Eight: Sprite Handicap (Class 6) 1200m:
Back Me: Last Sight (Best Odds: $6.50) made his Queensland debut over 1200m at the Gold Coast where he was smashed in betting and duly saluted. He then went to the 1200m here and looked very one paced when third to Pinch River. Stays at 1200m which suits and Brad Stewart, who won on the horse at the Gold Coast takes the ride.
Big Danger: Divine Service (Best Odds: $7.00) has been given a five week freshen up after leading all the way to get the job done nicely over this track/distance. He races very well on the fresh side and is only carrying 52kg after the claim.
Roughie: Forget I Am Boss (Best Odds: $11.00) ran at Toowoomba a couple of weeks back given he sat back in the run and pretty much every leader won that night, so his run should be forgiven. He has placed in all eight runs at Toowoomba without winning, but he should get every chance here.
