Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville on Saturday where it is John Letts Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:31) Happy 60th B'day R Clark (66) 1200m
4 Star Of Uma (Bet Now: $2.00) clearly on top for me. Think she’s a pretty sharp filly for the McEvoy camp that gave them a belting to win her maiden at this track/distance two weeks ago, leading throughout. Time was okay relative to the day, but she was first up and you’d like to think there is room for improvement.
I think last time out they figured out something with 3 Kirinia (Bet Now: $6.50). Normally she’s a filly that likes to be on speed, but she was ridden back near last three weeks ago and I loved the way she worked home late behind Mileva in a fast run race. Love the rise to 1200m for her and with similar tactics adopted, think she’s a winning chance.
5 Winning Weather (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Night Of Thunder filly for the Macdonald/Gluyas team that resumes. This girl had a pretty solid 2YO season, winning one of four, but showed good promise when in work. Has been given a solid break and stable should be respected with their younger gallopers. Market watch for sure.
Race 2. (13:11) Winning Edge Present. (rs2ly) 1200m
6 Kayseri (Bet Now: $4.40) has done a really good job in recent runs for the Jolly camp. He had the featherweight when racing on the course proper here three weeks ago and Jess Eaton took advantage of that, sitting near the speed throughout and putting the pressure on 500m out, and he was tough in fending them off to win. He can win again for sure.
1 Tequila Time (Bet Now: $2.20) has been a good horse for the Macdonald/Gluyas team for a little while but it was a fair dry spell when it came to wins. That all changed first up three weeks ago when controlling things from the front and he was there to be run down but showed really good ticker late to fend them off and win. He is a second up winner and should improve fitness wise.
Fitter and up to 1200m I do like for 4 Kenyan Wonder (Bet Now: $4.80). She isn’t the most reliable mare going around, but I thought her resumption two weeks ago was more than encouraging, getting back in the run and finishing her race off okay behind Exalted Maxine. Suited up in trip and Vorster rides this mare very well.
Race 3. (13:51) Schweppes (58) 1800m
6 Rock Steady (Bet Now: $2.60) is getting towards last chance territory. Phillip Stokes trained gelding that ran over the mile here two weeks ago and really, it was an ugly watch if you were on. Toeroek didn’t get any luck at all in the straight. He wouldn’t have won, but clearly should have finished closer. Fitter, more ground…one last chance.
1 Mr Epic (Bet Now: $7.00) is gradually getting better with each run for Merissa Moyle. Ran over the mile here two weeks ago when near the speed throughout and battled away pretty well I thought behind Li’l Hank, running third. He’s getting hard fit now, should land the near the front and give a bold sight against these.
7 Ace Attack (Bet Now: $13.00) should be suited up in trip for the Kristen Mooney camp. Resumed over the mile two weeks ago in the race mentioned above won by Li’l Hank and he seemed to have his chance, but was far from disgraced in defeat given he was first up and better suited at 2000m+. Might need one more, but is an outside chance.
Race 4. (14:31) Tab Create Your Calendar (68) 1600m
Really keen here on the Macdonald/Gluyas runner 2 Pearl Bandit (Bet Now: $2.15). On the quick back up after racing last Friday in the Gawler Cup where he sat off the speed and tried really hard, but couldn’t quite get there when third to Tubby Two Tracks. Provided the quick back up isn’t a concern, think he’s clearly the horse to beat.
1 Hypercane (Bet Now: $4.20) will relish the class drop. Team Jolly trained gelding that comes through the Murray Bridge Cup where he had the suck run on the fence and tried hard, but probably found the class of the race a bit much behind Winning Partner. Much better suited here and is well in after the claim for Caitlin Jones.
Fitter and up to the mile should suit 5 Going Gaga (Bet Now: $6.50). Had a freshen up prior to racing over 1400m at Naracoorte when wide no cover for the trip yet fought on really gamely when a close up third to Farooq. While between wins, but is racing quite well and fitter, up in trip, he’s one of the hardest to beat here.
Race 5. (15:15) Tab Live Racing Vision (58) 1500m
4 Monraaj (Bet Now: $9.00) is on the seven day back up for the Ryan Balfour camp after racing last Saturday on the Parks track. He tried hard from off the pace but was no match for the good thing of the meeting, You Hadme At Hello. Was 1500m back to 1400m that day, so now back up to 1500m, think he’ll run a positive race and go well.
6 Keysor (Bet Now: $3.80) is going well for the Kristi Evans stable. Ran last week on Gawler Cup Day over this trip where he had the suck run off the speed and looked to be bolting. Just a matter of getting clear air and once he got it, away he went, and he was dominant. Now he has found winning form, he can go on with it.
7 Cool Fonzy (Bet Now: $14.00) has a solid enough third up record so I give him a knockout hope against these. He ran on Gawler Cup Day last Friday and was okay in defeat without jumping up and down behind Keysor. He wants a firm track so if he does get that here, think he can run a decent race at likely big odds. One for multiples.
Race 6. (16:00) Furphy (64) 1200m
Looks a lovely race for 2 Whykayoh (Bet Now: $3.70). Team McEvoy trained gelding that brings over from Victoria some very strong form lines, the latest being a solid fourth on Cranbourne Cup Day behind a progressive animal in Scottish Dancer. That was 1600m just under three weeks ago, so back to 1200m I find interesting, but he has the class.
9 Gougers (Bet Now: $3.90) is bursting to win again and I think he gets a great chance here. The win looked like it would come over 1100m here two weeks ago but couldn’t quite get there and was nabbed near the peg by General Mint in a very game effort. He’s going well and I think will take a power of beating here.
1 Beeokay (Bet Now: $5.50) is an absolute beauty for Grant Young who is never far away from the action. That was the case when he raced here two weeks ago, trying hard from off the speed, but was no match for The Difference, finishing third. Runner up was Renegade and he came out to win last weekend, so the form has already been franked.
Race 7. (16:45) Pike & Joyce Riziz Sprint (76) 1100m
He’ll need luck in running, but at each way odds, more than happy to speck 13 Akkacan (Bet Now: $17.00) as a 1×3 play. He ran last Saturday on the Parks track where he was backed at a price…and if you were on, he should have won, simple as that. I think if Zechner had his time again, he would have stayed inside, where gaps appeared, instead of peeling wider looking for a run. Looks to be good speed, he does no work and will be strong late. Just hope the breaks go his way.
3 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $4.60) is hard to beat. David Jolly trained gelding that ran in a Heat of this Series two weeks ago at this track/distance and worked home strongly from off the speed, finishing a game second to Exalted Maxine. His racing pattern isn’t the best, but hard to knock his recent efforts and is a key threat.
7 Action In Cairns (Bet Now: $26.00) can measure up here. He’s a beauty for Michael O’Leary that resumed over 1000m at Naracoorte. Market said he would need the run and on the turn, that did look the case, but he kept finding under pressure and surged hard late to nab them right on the peg. He’s got more upside than most and I think runs well.
Race 8. (17:21) John Letts Cup 1800m
4 Andrea Mantegna (Bet Now: $6.50) has rejuvenated his career since joining David Jolly. He was once upon a time a plodding jumper, but he’s turned his career right around on the flat. Rewarded for that turnaround with a strong on speed win in the Horsham Cup just under two weeks ago. He was several weeks between runs as well, so he’s got room for improvement.
2 Danon Roman (Bet Now: $3.10) is a Michael Hickmott trained gelding that was kept relatively safe in betting when he resumed in the Murray Bridge Cup, his first run for the new stable. Was caught wide no cover throughout and I thought battled away pretty well in defeat behind Winning Partner. Has the class to measure up to these.
1 Eperdument (Bet Now: $35.00) might need one more run, but she does have class on her side having won the Lord Reims during the Autumn Carnival. Resumed in the Murray Bridge Cup and passed the stragglers late, but was sound enough in defeats. Gets a rise in trip and does have more upside than most here.
Race 9. (18:05) Aami (bm58) 1100m
4 Sitting Bull (Bet Now: $3.20) on top. Sam Burford trained son of Moshe that has had two runs back from a spell, each coming at Murray Bridge. Resumed with a maiden win over 900m before going to 1000m when well backed late and tried hard, but couldn’t quite get there when a close up third. Racing well and finds a winnable Saturday race.
Can 10 Kumo Sun (Bet Now: $5.00) go on with it? Took her a little while to break the maiden tag but she finally got the win on the board last time out at Gawler under a lovely steer from Kayla Crowther. Tricky draw, but this isn’t a strong 58 race and provided she can get cover from the gate, think she’s one of the hardest to beat.
6 Magic Phantom (Bet Now: $16.00) will be hoping for a good tempo given he’s coming back in trip but think he’s racing well to be competitive. Ran over 1200m last time out and worked home strongly from the back when fourth to Valliano. He wants a good speed and if he does indeed get it, think he’ll take some beating.
