A nine race program has been assembled for Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:13) Rq Supports Safety In Racing 1110m
1 Mishani Scandal (Bet Now: $2.60) on top but not really a race I want to spend too much time. He won the Pat O’Shea at Toowoomba on debut before going to the Sunny Coast where he was very green and raw in the straight when fourth. Gets the Winkers on to sharpen him, should find the front and prove hard to get past.
3 Everlast (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Chris Munce trained cold that is on debut. He’s had one trial to get ready, which came in early October at Doomben over 840m when looking to go about his business quite nicely when third. On breeding, he should be okay on wet ground, and the Munce/Cassidy combo is in really good form.
Market watch for sure with 4 Far Reaching (Bet Now: $9.00), an Outreach colt for Michael Costa that is on debut. He trialled on Tuesday at the Gold Coast and wasn’t really knocked about when running third, bloused late. Another that should appreciate wet ground based on breeding and stable is having a good run at the moment.
Race 2. (12:51) Stylish Century Hcp 1640m
1 Magic Conqueror (Bet Now: $1.95) has been up a little while for Kelly Schweida but he seems to be holding his form pretty well. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he was near the speed throughout in the small field and he tried hard, but couldn’t fend off Soul Dancer in the run to the line. Going well and hard to beat.
3 Soul Dancer (Bet Now: $3.50) is a Desleigh Forster trained filly that can win again. Wasn’t really fancied in betting when she raced at this track/distance three weeks back but she showed a good turn of foot under Taylor Marshall and was able to wear down Magic Conqueror. Think she’s got more to come and is a leading chance here.
Very interesting that 8 Mt Mort Shark (Bet Now: $20.00) resumes in town over the mile. Could have found a maiden, but instead comes here and I always respect these Matty Kropp runners that are lightly raced and show staying ability. This guy did show promise in his first prep and overall, this race is thin, so he doesn’t need to be anything special to be competitive.
Race 3. (13:31) Tab Create Your Calendar (70) 1110m
1 Lyrical Girl (Bet Now: $1.75) for me. Tony Gollan trained mare that is 3/3 this time in. Latest of those wins came over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where she was Winx odds and Nothdurft rode her that way, holding the inside near the speed and she was far too good for her rivals in a dominant display. Harder here, but think she can make it 4/4.
2 Dotti Dear (Bet Now: $4.80) is a progressive mare for the Mark Currie team who deserves her crack in town. Ran over 1000m on her home track at Toowoomba last time out where she had the suck run in behind before getting clear air and under Nothdurft, she powered clear late and was much too good. She can measure up here.
6 Expert Eye (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Better Than Ready mare for the Kelly Schweida stable that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since June 24 at Ipswich when near the speed, tried hard, but felt the pinch late behind Knight Mariner. Resumes without a trial, but has gate one to use and Jimmy Orman is finding some good form.
Race 4. (14:11) The Moreton Hire Main Event (70) 1110m
Provided there is no second up syndrome, 8 Skins (Bet Now: $3.90) looks one of the hardest to beat. Had a rather long break before resuming here two weeks ago where he was off the speed and tried hard, but was clearly no match for the Stakes class mare Sugar Boom, who looked the good thing of good things and won accordingly, but liked the finale of Skins. He’s hard to beat off that.
Fascinating runner is 6 Ruuca (Bet Now: $2.80), who resumes for Team Edmonds. As a whole, I thought he was really disappointing when last in work, but he was very erratic during his races and didn’t put it all together. Been given a good break, has trialled up really well in readiness for his return, and his best is clearly good enough.
7 Ready To Roam (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Tony Gollan trained four year old that can bounce back, but could I back him to do it? After last start, no. I was really keen on him last time out but he let me down badly and didn’t fire a shot behind Genzai The Wolf. He can win this without surprising. Gambling on him doing it is another thing.
Race 5. (14:51) Austrans (bm90) 2040m
9 Plumaro (Bet Now: $17.00) is working up to another win for Kevin Kemp I feel. Was on her when she raced over 1700m at Ipswich last time out and I loved the way she found the line late against the pattern of the day it seemed. Looked to be a meeting where on speed/rail was the spot to be. Think 2000m will be fine and is a key chance.
7 Fastnet Cyclone (Bet Now: $4.60) should be suited back to this trip. He ran over 2200m here two weeks ago where he was just off the speed and tried hard to wear down the front pair, but they had the momentum and soft time of it, proving too good for him, but he was more than sound in running third. Hard to beat against these.
2 Sabkhat (Bet Now: $12.00) will put himself on speed and try hard. That was the case here a fortnight ago when leading and seemingly had control before copping pressure around 600m out and though a beaten horse, he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Top Prospect. Should find the front and run a bold race at a price.
Race 6. (15:36) Moet & Chandon Qlty 1640m
In the corner of 10 Plitvice (Bet Now: $8.00) for Rob Heathcoate. Was on him when he raced here two weeks ago. 500m out, he looked like he would run last, but picked up late and surged hard to run a close up fourth to Top Prospect. He’s working up to a win I feel and he does get a great opportunity here in what is a winnable race.
1 The Harrovian (Bet Now: $2.60) has to carry topweight on wet ground, which won’t be an easy task, but he is an absolute beauty. Star of North Queensland that proved he can match it with the big boys when winning over 1400m at Eagle Farm four weeks ago. He does love wet ground and maps to get a perfect run just off the speed.
7 Mongolian Wolf (Bet Now: $12.00) is a stablemate of Top Prospect that resumes. He will be better suited over a bit further but do like he resumes at the mile, perhaps a sign of intent. He handles wet ground, can sprint well fresh, and thought his two trials to get ready have been more than encouraging, so interesting to see what the market does.
Race 7. (16:23) Mr Suez Jim Cahill Hcp 1350m
Third up, stepping to 1350m, this just looks a perfect race for 3 Red Chase (Bet Now: $3.80). Very good late fresh in the Weetwood before going to 1200m here where he just got too far back in the run but loved the way he found the line late behind Jadentom. He’s flying this bloke and should just about be at peak fitness now.
7 Grey Missile (Bet Now: $6.00) has a fabulous second up record. Team Edmonds trained gelding that had trialled up well prior to resuming over 1200m here three weeks back where he was kept pretty safe in betting but didn’t really fire a shot and was disappointing I thought. He’s better than that, and that second up record has him in the mix.
6 Junction (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Mark Currie trained gelding that was a brilliant first up winner to start the prep but his form since was a bit hit and miss, so it was good to see him bounce back into the winners list a few weeks back at Toowoomba when having a struggle with Plitvice but his race fitness came to the fore late. He can win again.
Race 8. (16:58) Planet Ruler (rs0mw) 1200m
10 Depths Below (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Gillian Heinrich trained gelding that had trialled up well prior to resuming over 1200m at Eagle Farm several weeks ago where he had a suck run along the fence and chased hard. Just wasn’t good enough on the day when third to Metson. He’ll come on from that and I think is hard to beat here.
1 Weboughtazou (Bet Now: $5.00) is a beauty for David Vandyke that will put himself on speed and try his heart out. Got things to suit in his last run, September 30 at the Gold Coast, where Maloney controlled things in front, and he was much too good for his rivals. Form out of that has been good, he handles wet ground, finds the front and is hard to beat.
Back to 1200m with fresh legs I do find interesting with 6 Superbowl Sunday (Bet Now: $16.00). Has been kept on ice since September 23 at Eagle Farm over 1400m when leading and tiring late behind Tesarc. Does seem more effective when produced with fresh legs and is a city winner from three back, so he’s well in against these.
Race 9. (17:42) Superior Pak (bm78) 1640m
7 Prospectus (Bet Now: $3.00) has been up a while for Chris Waller but gee he’s racing well. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when backed with confidence late and surged hard, just missing out on the win when a close up second to Seeingisbelieving. Just has to hold his form to go close to winning again.
5 Alderman (Bet Now: $8.00) is racing really well at the moment for the Lindsay Gough camp. Was 1350m to 1700m when racing at Ipswich last time out and I thought he was very good in winning. Chased the speed throughout and was entitled to perhaps drop away late, but he kept finding and was too good over the concluding stages. Racing in good form and can measure up.
Not sure that 13 Brocson (Bet Now: $81.00) wins but for wider multiples, I could include. Resumed over 1350m at Ipswich where he looked in need of the run and that’s how it panned out, but still thought the run had plenty of merit. His record at this track/distance doesn’t read too bad, so for a horse likely to be near the rank outsider, he could fill a first four spot.
Race 10. (18:20) Sky Racing (bm80) 1350m
9 Fisticuffs (Bet Now: $4.00) is a horse I want to give another chance to. On face value, was just a run behind Beaufort Park three weeks ago, but considering the winner went sub 34 for his last 600m and Fisticuffs was near last on the turn, he had no hope of winning. Hopefully the tempo is more genuine and he can finish over the top.
16 Unguarded (Bet Now: $9.50) can win again. Chris Munce trained mare that produced a monster effort to win over 1200m here three weeks ago. She was tardy to begin and back near last in the run, but Larry Cassidy was able to slice her way through the field and away she went late, drawing clear for a super win. Repeat effort and I think she can go close.
12 No Doubt Acracker (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Stuart Kendrick trained mare that is racing really well at the moment but can’t quite crack it for a win. Hasn’t raced for around four weeks since racing over 1400m at the Sunny Coast where she tried hard and looked the winner, but had to settle for a close up second to Top Me Up Again. Draws well and being by Not A Single Doubt, wet ground is fine.
