Group one racing continues at Caulfield this Sunday where we’ll see the running of the $400,000 Group l Clamms- Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m). Moment Of Change is the early favourite ahead of a host of gallopers, including We’re Gonna Rock, Pinwheel and Solzhenitsyn.
The other highlight event on the card is the $175,000 Group lll Beck Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m). Golden Rose winner Epaulette is the $2.50 top pick ahead of the horse that finished third behind him in the Golden Rose, Ashokan at $5. They dominate betting for the race.

Race One: Bmw Handicap (89) 2000m Form Guide
Back Me: Put in/Take out job here in the shape of Practiced. Huge win first up in a hot race at Echuca before bumping into the well above average Callanish at Sandown where he cruised up to win, but found the winner too good. Not up against much here and he should kick off things on the right note for punters.
Don’t Back Me: Whisper Downs appeared to win nicely at Bendigo last start, but I query him at 2000m and against a couple of good types here. Couldn’t have him.
Big Danger: Mumbeilly appeared to have his chance last start at Kilmore when beaten narrowly by Victoria Bluebird, a handy type, but nothing special. However, he does have some upside and is on his home track. In a race that lacks depth apart from the top pick, he can easily run second.
Roughie: Zuma Roc, purely because the other two are out of form.

Race Two: Thomas Sabo Watches Plate 1800m Form Guide
Back Me: Punters should keep the ball going with Chateau Margaux. She was excellent first up behind Thy and she was much the same a couple of weeks back in the Stock Stakes (1600m), where she sat back in a slowly run race and got home very hard late. The 1800m looks perfect, as does the drop in depth and if she is to go in better races this Spring, she’d want to win this.
Don’t Back Me: Can’t see anything beating the top pick. She looks a standout.
Big Danger: Rock Princess has been up for an eternity, but gee she is racing well. She also caught the eye in the Stock Stakes, running a similar style race to the top pick. She looks the logical second pick.
Roughie: Manilla Jewel looks the obvious third pick. She’ll get the gun run from the inside barrier and looks well weighted given her career stats. I think the $9 on offer is good overs.

Race Three: The Orion Expedition Cruise Handicap (89) 1400m Form Guide
Back Me: Sharnee Rose is without doubt the best maiden galloper in Australia at the moment. But due to her racing pattern, she won’t be winning many races…but I think she can record her first win here. Should have won first up here, then went to Sandown and was caught deep in the run before settling for another minor prize. If she gets cover and a drag into the race, surely her time is now.
Don’t Back Me: Star Of Giselle was slightly disappointing first up when finishing second in a very, very weak race. She’d want to improve a few lengths to feature in the money here.
Big Danger: Biancon Rose found the class a bit rich at Flemington in a nice little mares race. She gets back to her level here, should roll forward and make her own luck. She’s going well enough to win and the price is right.
Roughie: Tai Tai Tess produced a barnstorming first performance at Seymour where Bossy sat her last, pulled out the widest and unleashing a powerful burst to win on the line. If she reproduces that performance, she’s a major chance here.

Race Four: TMB Printing Handicap 1400m Form Guide
Back Me: The obvious tip is Love For Ransom. She was just electric when she won at Moonee Valley. She was two lengths last at the 300m, yet just rounded them up, despite laying in badly. She is one of the major players for the Thousand Guineas, so you’d expect her to go close to winning. But don’t take anything silly.
Don’t Back Me: La Zuma was particularly impressive when winning on debut at Ballarat. But she was a massive drifter on track, from $10 out to $26. I just want to see her again.
Big Danger: A Time For Julia oozed class in her debut win at Kilmore where she led all the way in handy time. She was crunched in betting and duly saluted. I like the fact that Moody has thrown her straight into the deep end because he normally doesn’t do that with young horses.
Roughie: Flying Hostess was a bit plain last start at Moonee Valley. She didn’t quite bring her a-game and I couldn’t figure out why. Now I know…because she was looking for further and she gets that here. Dean Yendall could have had a full book at Coleraine yet has come to Caulfield for one ride…Respect that.

Race Five: Beck Caulfield Guineas Prelude 1400m Form Guide
Back Me: Got to tip Epaulette because he is the group one winner, but I won’t declare him. The race was run to suit him in the Golden Rose and he duly saluted. He’ll only improve on that run and will prove awfully hard to hold out.
Don’t Back Me: Just not sure about Ashokan. Yes, on face value he was strong. But the horse he beat into third, Ninth Legion, was disgusting last Saturday and I have my reservations about this bloke running 1400m.
Big Danger: Shamexpress wasn’t ridden the best in the Golden Rose. Did work early and was forced back. From there, I think he was just run off his legs and he didn’t appear to handle the Sydney way at all. Back to Melbourne, Williams back on, looks a major player.
Roughie: Got a few roughies. Awesome Bro should have won at Flemington, but had no luck. He could surprise. Let Go Lenni was ultra impressive at Kilmore and can take the next step while Timely Truce ran on strongly last time out and could do the same here.

Race Six: Clamms Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes 1400m Form Guide
Back Me: Very hard group one race to sort out. The key here is That’s The One and how far back he’ll get. He was enormous when resuming in the Macleod Stakes at Moonee Valley where he sat back and was never fully out until the final 100m where he really attacked the line. Hopefully Williams can possie him up a touch closer to the tempo and from there, we can see the dynamite turn of speed he has up his sleeve.
Don’t Back Me: It’ll be a big effort if Moment Of Change can overcome the barrier and win. I think he’ll do too much work from out there.
Big Danger: Pinwheel deserves a major triumph and he won’t get a better chance than here. Great overall record and he is flying this prep, with two group victories at Warwick Farm. He has been freshened, trialled nicely last week at Rosehill and he appears beautifully placed to get that elusive group one.
Roughie: Solzhenitsyn was enormous winning first up. He can step up here. Smokin’ Joey was solid enough in the Bobbie Lewis. And I wouldn’t be shocked if Strike The Stars caused an upset.

Race Seven: Spicer Thoroughbred Testa Rossa Stakes 1200m Form Guide
Back Me: All things point to Amah Rock in this race. He was excellent first up, he is unbeaten second up, Bossy is in form, drawn well, on the minimum weight and has good stats at the track/distance. In a wide race, he goes on top.
Don’t Back Me: Curtana is a highly talented mare for Peter Moody, but from the wide barrier, they can only ride her cold and hope for the best. I fail to see how she is second pick in betting.
Big Danger: Stratcombe just looked in need of the run at Moonee Valley behind Bel Sprinter. He has a good record second up, and at Caulfield. If he jumps cleanly and sits in the first few, he is right in contention.
Roughie: I wouldn’t rule out Ahdashim. He wasn’t too bad in the Bobbie Lewis and from all reports, he worked superbly during the week alongside boom filly and stablemate Snitzerland. He is $19 and that is big overs.

Race Eight: Programmed Property Services Handicap 1700m Form Guide
Back Me: The banker of the afternoon here in Callanish. He is just bombproof. Six from six and showing no signs of getting defeat. He looked in a bit of trouble last start, but once Smith gave him a click, he put a length or two on them quickly and the race was over. Clear top pick against this lot.
Don’t Back Me: I think Spirit Song is flying, but she has to take on the boys here and she is being asked to carry 58kg. Big risk in this race.
Big Danger: Midnight Martini was solid enough in the Stock Stakes, where Spirit Song finished second. The difference is that this mare has taken on the boys in the past and performed quite well. She should get the run of the race from the barrier and run on well at the end.
Roughie: Extra Zero got back and worked home nicely first up behind Fawkner at Flemington. He does have class on his side and looks very well weighted considering his record. He could easily fill the placings.
