We got three legs up last Saturday, with the well backed favourites letting us down. The big6 on Wednesday for NSW punters is on races 3-8 at Canterbury with a $10,000 jackpot. Here is my $20 strategy. ($5K jackpot).
Leg 1 – Very weak maiden with three hopes. Harley Down had trialled well leading up to his debut but was run off his legs and finished well back. He’ll appreciate a massive drop in grade and a firmer surface. Kabuki Kiss showed great natural speed to lead first up at Kembla when kicking clear and being nailed on the line. She’ll be fitter and should dictate from the front. Oakfield Gem looked very good in three runs before spelling. Trials leading up to this suggest he’ll improve on whatever he does here, but again, it isn’t a strong race.
Leg 2 – Looks a race in two. The Opera House, closely related to 1997 Caulfield Cup/Melbourne Cup hero Might And Power, looks ready to show her best fourth up from a spell. Fitness probably got to her last start when she cruised up to win but was outsprinted. Dreams And Desires has a bad habit of missing the start and that is rarely seen with a Waterhouse runner. Having said that, she has placed in all four career starts and the step up to 2100m looks good for her.
Leg 3 – Steerage had been knocking on the door to win before she got the job done last start over 1500m at Kembla. Extra 100m is no issue and she strikes a nice race to maintain her winning form. Yonderstar had the right run and proved too good on the line to break her maiden status last start. No reason why she can’t go on with it. Young Money got through the heavy ground best last start, that’s the only reason she won, but she has to be included. Also put in Quite Classy and Blackzak.
Leg 4 – Race between two. Bidden’s last two starts have been at Canterbury in much stronger company than this and has performed very well. Drawn a touch awkwardly but he has the class factor. Fletch has come back in good order. Kicked up to lead at Gosford last start and just weakened the last 100m. He should go straight to the lead here and give a great sight on a firmer track on a track which suits on-pace runners.
Leg 5 – A horror race here. About eight or nine winning hopes. Put in Sure Division, Golden Dive, Baby Boom, Lifou, Little Vicki, Dream With Me, Switmoa and Zafer. One of these should win, but it’s the sort of race where one of the others could win without surprising.
Leg 6 – Come home with three runners. Swarm is now with Darren Smith after originally being trained by Anthony Cummings. Best form is over longer but his two trials indicate he is ready to win first up. Market Gal is so consistent, but she just can’t seem to win. A senior rider back on her may change that. Glyn will know where to put her and she is a must put in horse. Darewish found her right race last start. She has to step up here but she can roll forward and give cheek.
Leg 1: 1, 2, 3
Leg 2: 9, 11
Leg 3: 4, 5, 6, 7, 9
Leg 4: 3, 4
Leg 5: 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12
Leg 6: 10, 12, 15
A $20 investment = 1.38% of the dividend if successful
