Race 1. (11:55) Midway (Bm72) 1800m
Not going to get $26 for 10 Loving Cilla (Bet Now: $SP.00) like we did two weeks ago but I am happy to cop the shorter price because I think she is an each way good thing. Greg Hickman has this mare absolutely flying. She ran in the Midway here from two weeks ago where she was well specked at odds and while she ran a close up third, you can easily make a case to say that with clear air she wins. If she gets that here, she’ll take a power of beating.
4 Philipsburg (Bet Now: $SP.00) isn’t a horse I could back to win but he can run top four. He ran in the Midway from two weeks back here where he got back off the speed and took a little while to wind into his work but was pretty solid to the line behind Satness, beaten 2.5L. Like him back up to 1800m and should be stronger than most at the end.
13 Jessandi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for first four bets. Kerry Parker has this mare racing really well, her recent efforts coming at Hawkesbury. Latest was over 1800m where the sit/sprint set up wasn’t to her liking but she kept on and was pretty good in defeat. With a more genuine tempo here, I think she can take this out.
Race 2. (12:30) Gimcrack Stakes 1000m
6 Lady Of Camelot (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Written Tycoon filly that looked sharp in her respective trial win. She led throughout under Prebble and while she was somewhat niggled at, she lengthened nicely and won by a space in pretty solid time. Seemingly has the right racing style for a race like this and with that, will look the winner for a long way.
7 Lady Tassort (Bet Now: $SP.00) likely lands near the front and will give them something to chase. She won her respective trial on the Kenso, leading throughout and under minimal pressure, she moved quite nicely in winning and running solid enough time. Being by a former boom juvenile in Tassort, it will be fascinating to see how his progeny goes. Watch the market.
11 Totoka (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Brutal for Paul Perry that is on debut. She ran second to Celestial Bling in a recent trial and I thought she moved well enough to my eye, closing off under riding to be beaten just under a half length in a tidy effort. Stable is flying at the moment so not going to entirely dismiss her.
Race 3. (13:05) Breeders' Plate 1000m
11 Scampi… (Bet Now: $SP.00) is it a case of good luck beating him? Maher/Eustace colt that looks above average given how sharp he trialled on the Kenso. He led throughout under Jason Collett and gee he moved nicely, drawing clear and winning by a space in good time. Stable have recently loved these early 2YO races and this guy looks a very sharp early 2YO. Keen on his prospects.
12 Straight Charge (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a well bred colt for GaiBott that has to be respected. His trial win was the opening heat of the morning on the Kenso, smashing the clock late in the process and yes, he was pushed out, but he responded quite nicely when asked, which is a good sign for a juvenile this young. Always have to respect the stable in these early 2YO races.
6 Fearless (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Pierata colt for Team Snowden that looks like he will be stronger than most at the end. He won his respective trial on the Kenso where he was off the speed and was under pressure to pick up but what I liked is that he responded and was strong late to the line in winning. Spots them a start but will be finishing off late.
Race 4. (13:40) Bisley Workwear (Bm88) 1600m
13 Altivo (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another chance for Team Hawkes. He resumed over 1400m here two weeks and while he was beaten over three lengths, I think you can easily make a case to say he should have won had he got clear when Zac was probing. Things didn’t eventuate and it ended up being an ugly watch. Rub of the green here, he’ll take beating.
8 Unspoken (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Team Snowden trained gelding that resumed at Rosehill three weeks ago where the market wanted him with confidence late and under a peach steer from Parr, he drove hard late to finish best in a super return. He’s got good room for improvement and fitter, up to the mile, he only runs well.
16 Bellatrix Black (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a first four contender. This mare resumed on her home track in the Tibbie at Newcastle where she got back to near last in the run and did make up solid headway without threatening behind Banana Queen. Like her up to the mile and she does have a touch of quality about her when right.
Race 5. (14:15) Dulcify Stakes 1600m
IMO, I don’t see how 4 Cafe Millenium (Bet Now: $SP.00) doesn’t take this out. He is flying for John O’Shea and I’d be locking in whatever odds you can for the Spring Champion because after he wins this, he’ll be favourite. He has been excellent in two runs back, each time getting back to last and finding the line with purpose. Both runs have come at Rosehill and given how big of a horse he is, he’ll love getting to Randwick. Up to 1600m…good luck beating him.
1 Tom Kitten (Bet Now: $SP.00) has eyes on the Caulfield Guineas you’d assume given the stable only has him left in the race. He comes through the Ming Dynasty where he too was back near last in the run but made up really good ground late in the piece when third to Encap. Can settle closer in the run from the good draw and third up, should be close to peak fitness.
10 Agita (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks more your Spring Champion/Derby type but he has an engine under the hood to say he commands respect. Last run was Aug 26 when an impressive winner at Kembla over the mile. Might want further, but for exotics, don’t dismiss him.
Race 6. (14:50) Flight Stakes 1600m
5 French Endeavour (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a great each way gamble. Matty Smith trained filly that won like a good horse two back at Hawkesbury before going to the Tea Rose when thrown in the deep end but I thought she measured up big time when a closing fourth to Tiz Invincible, who is the one to beat, but she seems on the short side. Much rather back this filly, who gives every indication of eating up 1600m.
1 Tiz Invincible (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been the best filly in Sydney this Spring and can confirm it with a Group l win. 3/3 this time in, the latest coming a fortnight back in the Tea Rose where she got a beaut sit in transit under Lloyd before angling clear and she was strong late in winning. Off that, 1600m should be fine and is the class factor. Hard to beat.
7 Mollynickers (Bet Now: $SP.00) will love getting to the mile for Moody/Coleman. This filly ran three weeks ago over 1200m in the Atlantic Jewel where she was off a freshen up, back near last in the run and worked home with real purpose late in the piece when a close up fourth to Charm Stone. Should be able to hold a forward spot from the inside gate and only run well.
Race 7. (15:25) Premiere Stakes 1200m
2 Think About It (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very good horse for Joe Pride that resumes. He really came of age when last in work, winning the Takeover Target before going onto become a multiple Group l winner and soon after, an Everest contender. He resumes with the GF in two weeks time but with two strong trials under the belt, how genuine is, he’ll take a power of beating.
3 Mazu (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket IMO. Team Snowden trained five year old that resumed two weeks ago in The Shorts where on face value, he was just a run, but when you break down the splits, the race shape, the Stewards Vision, it was a clear forgive run. Hopefully can settle closer in the run because if so, he’ll be very dangerous.
1 Lost And Running (Bet Now: $SP.00) is another from The Shorts that has to be given another look. He resumed and just had no luck, sitting wide throughout and was never really a factor in a total forgive behind Private Eye. He won this race last year and did trial up a storm prior to the resumption, so I wouldn’t be totally dismissing him.
Race 8. (16:05) Epsom Handicap 1600m
8 Hope In Your Heart (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a ripping mare for Kerry Parker that has to rate highly against these. This mare resumed several weeks ago in the Tramway where she got back on the fence in a slowly run affair, which wasn’t to her liking, but I did really like the way she found the line late in the piece. Tick over trial was good and given how genuine she is, proven Randwick mile performer, hard to beat.
10 Kovalica (Bet Now: $SP.00) might want one more and a further rise in trip but he is a very good horse when right and I thought he did more than enough when resuming, which was at Rsoehill several weeks ago in the Theo Marks when the market said he had three legs and while he didn’t win, I thought his run was full of merit given the race shape and the fact he was first up off a Derby win. Too good of a horse to pen off one run so giving him another look.
1 My Oberon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Annabel and would be a clear top pick if the track had juice in it. He has been excellent in two runs back, the latest being two weeks ago in the 7 Stakes when game in defeat at WFA behind Think It Over. That is the A1 form for this and despite a tricky gate, I think he has to rate highly as a key winning chance.
Race 9. (16:45) The Metropolitan 2400m
It’s hard to get away from 14 Just Fine (Bet Now: $SP.00). UK import for GaiBott that is 2/2 since arriving in Australia, winning impressively over the mile before a dominant win two weeks ago in the Kingston Town where he was an outstanding on speed winner, copping pressure on speed yet found and was too good. He’s short enough…but gee it’s hard to get away from him.
3 Cleveland (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look for Kris Lees. Market wanted him with confidence when contesting the Newcastle Cup last time but I thought the ride from Melham was very negative. He rode the horse like it was a barrier trial and he found the line quite well after getting a mile back. He is a very good stayer when right and has upside to come IMO.
9 Ho Ho Khan (Bet Now: $SP.00) is steadily getting towards peak fitness and I think Mitch Freedman has him flying. He ran over 2040m three weeks ago at The Valley where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, he did make up headway and was pretty good late in the piece behind Young Werther. Love him up to 2400m and with good upside to come, he is the one at silly odds.
Race 10. (17:25) City Tattersalls Group (Bm94) 1200m
6 Knight’s Choice… (Bet Now: $SP.00) he is the one in this field that I think could be special and yes, 1200m is short of his best, but he did enough when last in work to say he could be special. His Winx Guineas win was something else, the way he trucked and then put them away was just so impressive. He’ll need luck from the inside gate, but if the breaks come his way, he will launch.
18 Airman (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep for Team Hawkes. This guy resumed a few weeks ago at Rosehill where he was ridden cold and in a race dominated by those on speed, he was never a winning factor, but did work home well behind Red Card. Good upside to come and if he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take holding out.
4 Rubamos (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous at odds. He resumes for Chris Waller, having not raced since May 27 when making ground without threatening over 1400m here behind Cisco Bay. Trial work has been more than encouraging and he maps to do no work.
