Race 1. (12:10) Gian Gets His Maiden (Bm64) 1000m
3 Pride Of Sullivan (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is suited back to 1000m I feel. Three weeks between runs since attempting to lead throughout in the Atlantic Jewel at The Valley and she did give a solid sight but couldn’t quite see it through behind Charm Stone. This looks more her level and I reckon with a bunny to chase, she’ll be more effective.
7 Undisputed (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of two runners that are 1/1 in their career. Market wanted her with confidence when she made her debut at Moe and despite being out of petrol tickets late, she had enough in hand to just hold on. Good racing style it seems and it is suited to Mornington, especially when the track is on the firm side.
Back to 1000m is a big tick for 4 Zousuko (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). John McArdle trained filly that has been racing at 1300m/1400m her last couple where she has run well but just hasn’t been able to attack the line. Back in trip and I reckon with a bunny to chase, she’ll be far more effective and a win wouldn’t shock.
Race 2. (12:45) The Big Screen Company (Bm70) 1000m
8 Hydro Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket in what looks a competitive race. He’s a hard horse to catch at times but he tends to run well on the home track here and is racing in good form. He ran over 1200m at Cranbourne last time when wide no cover for the trip and tried to sustain a run but couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Gabstar. Like him back to 1000m and gets a big jockey upgrade.
4 Lempicka (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and she can certainly go on with it. She was specked at odds when racing at the midweeks at Sandown and under a lovely ride from McDougall, she finished best to win and win well. There is a bit of depth to this line up but confident she measures up and runs well.
5 Lloyd’s Crown (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give them something to chase. He resumes for Bec Waymouth, having not raced since July 26 when a solid fourth at Sandown behind Twin Perfection. Good fresh horse with a good racing style and a recent Cranbourne trial was a solid piece of work. He’ll give plenty of cheek.
Race 3. (13:20) Mercedes Benz Mornington-Bm70 1500m
4 Fiasco Tess (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will put herself on speed and give them something to chase. Briedoake/Jenkins trained mare that sat on speed at Sandown last time and gave plenty under pressure but couldn’t quite finish it off when fifth to Glitzing, beaten just over three lengths. Love the booking of Winona Costin, because she is a gun front running rider. Should take this mare to the front and prove hard to run down.
6 London Point (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is running out of chances but she is a mare who has an engine under the hood. She ran over 1400m at Cranbourne last start where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she did make up headway, she was never a threat. If she’s within range on the turn, she’s good enough to win.
Fitter and up to 1500m are two big ticks for 5 Mere Fancy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). John McArdle trained mare that resumed over 1300m at Sandown. She got back to near last in the run and failed to make up any real headway behind Boldinho in an okay effort. Like her up in trip and is trained on the track so she has a bit in her corner to say she can run an improved race.
Race 4. (13:55) Gary Lee (Bm70) 1500m
1 Grand Pierro (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is better suited over further but he does have a class edge on these and that will carry him a long way towards victory. He resumes for Jason Warren, having not raced April 22 when down the track in the Mornington Guineas and was spelled soon after that plain run. Two jumpouts under the belt, the latest over 1200m, so the grounding is there to run well fresh.
5 Pungo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of So You Think for Chris Waller that resumes. This guy is first up, with his last run coming on Anzac Day on the Kenso when beaten just under four lengths by stablemate and potential Group l horse, Rediener. Two jumpouts under the belt to get ready for the return and first up at 1500m signals some level of intent.
8 Rhionceros (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the quick back up for Team Browne after racing at Flemington on Sunday where he got back off the speed and looked to be going quite well. He presented to be a threat in the straight but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Matron Bullwinkel. Like him on the back up and the depth here, as a whole, isn’t deep.
Race 5. (14:30) Penang Turf Club Trophy (Bm70) 2000m
12 Commando Drift (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in an open race. Carey/Walker trained mare that resumed over the mile at Sandown where she was unwanted in betting but she was far from disgraced in defeat I thought behind The Marg Factor. She’s unbeaten second up, she’ll love getting to 2000m, down in the weights and placed in her lone run on the home track.
2 Aravene (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) gets the Blinkers back on and that could just about be her saving grace. I was keen on her running well last Wednesday at Sandown but gee she was very one paced when asked for the effort and only got warm very late in the piece. Blinkers back on should hopefully sharpen her up and she gets a big jockey upgrade IMO.
5 Tommy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Team McEvoy trains this former Kiwi, who won her Australian debut on the Ballarat Synthetic before going to 1800m at Sandown where the race shape wasn’t to her liking but she made up ground and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Falcon Of Malta. More genuine tempo here, she can bounce back.
Race 6. (15:05) Homes & Acreage (Bm70) 1200m
6 Prancing Spirit (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Phillip Stokes. He ran over 1000m last Wednesday at Sandown where he was off the speed but was trucking and presented to win but couldn’t quite get there when a closing second to a handy mare, Luna Cat. That is two runs at 1000m to start the prep so now up to 1200m, he appeals big time.
9 Pantelone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for James Cummings, having not raced since August 16 at Sandown where he seemingly had every chance from behind the speed and was there to win but had to settle for a second to Coincide. Tick over jumpout was good, maps ideally and strikes a winnable race.
4 Hidden Legend (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one that could pinch a first four spot at a big price. He resumed over 1000m at Sale where he did plenty wrong behind the speed and had nothing left for the straight behind impressive winner Dio. Host of gear changes to hopefully sharpen him up and his absolute best is certainly good enough to say he can run top four.
Race 7. (15:45) R.M. Ansett Classic 2400m
1 Regal Power (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top but gee this is a bludger of race. He is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday in the Naturalism when on the plain side behind Uncle Bryn but why I like him here is because he’s on the back up and this will be a proper 2400m contest with Rebel Racer engaged. He has the class and I think that just about gets him home.
4 Born A King (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is somewhat unknown at 2400m but is giving every indication like it will be fine. He ran in the Young Werther race from three weeks back at The Valley. He made a sustained run from off the speed and kept finding in a solid effort. I think 2400m is okay for him and he should be hard fit now after four runs back.
3 Maserartie Bay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a knockout hope for Maher/Eustace. He comes through the Future History race from several weeks back at The Valley where the sit/sprint set up wasn’t to his liking so be forgiving of the down the track effort behind the stablemate. Has won at this trip previously so I wouldn’t be totally dismissing him.
Race 8. (16:25) Ibuild Group (Bm70) 1200m
3 Miss Galore (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a promising mare for Price/Kent that rates highly. Market said she was a moral when resuming at Geelong and despite a few nervous moments, class came to the fore and she was much too good. She has good room for improvement and with the claim, she gets in really well. Leading contender.
5 Fearless Writer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a talented mare resuming for Adrian McGregor. She hasn’t raced since April 29 at Sandown when placing over 1300m behind Jenny Jerome, who was flying at the time. Just one soft 800m jumpout at Cranbourne to get ready but she has a touch of quality about her.
6 Boss Queen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will put herself on speed and look to give her all. She did that last start at Sale over this trip and gave a solid kick but couldn’t quite sustain the gallop and tired late. If she gets a cheap time of it on speed, she’ll be dangerous.
