30/4/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Warrnambool, Wangoom Handicap day

The Warrnambool Carnival continues on Wednesday, headlined by the ‘Newmarket Of The Bush’, the Wangoom Handicap (1200m). Weather is fine, track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

7 Arizona Luck (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been specked in early betting and I can certainly see why that is the case. Lucky Vega filly on debut for Symon Wilde and I was taken by her recent jumpout at Warracknabeal. She seemed to jump at a shadow early on in the straight but outside that, gee she moved with purpose I thought. Going to take a power of beating here.

2 Shades Of Stardom (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Tosen Stardom gelding that is on debut for Matty Williams. He’s had a trial and two jumpouts to get ready for start one, and each time he has stepped out, he has moved quite well. Maps to get a beaut run in transit and be effective late.

11 Morgana (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the debut run, which came over 1000m on Terang Cup Day. She got back to near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up good headway in defeat. Like her up to 1200m, she commands respect.

4 Kingsford (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the main horse I’ve blackbooked for this Carnival and am quite keen on his chances. Matty Williams/OTI have had Harbour Views and Toregene over this Carnival in recent years and I reckon they have this guy prepped to go. He looked very sharp in a recent trial win at Terang and fresh at 1400m tells me he’s ready to go.

6 Vianarra (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win a maiden. Both runs back from a spell have come over 1400m at Pakenham, the latest run being near the speed and he presented to win but couldn’t get quite finish the job, nabbed late by Feeling Dusty. Maps perfect and gets B Shinn on board.

8 Los Alamoss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Peter Gelagotis trained mare that resumes. She is first up, having not raced since July last year at Moe when over 2050m and struggled on the testing track. Given a good break, has jumped out well…first four contender.

12 My Uncle Did It (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a filly heading in the right direction for Symon Wilde and is one of the hardest to beat. She ran over the mile at Doomben last start and she was very good from the back, closing with purpose when second to Littlebitcheeky. Shinn on, hoping for a positive ride, she takes beating.

2 Factcheck (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the key chances. He attempted to lead throughout over 1400m at Pakenham last time and he looked the winner for a few strides but just felt the pinch late when third to Feeling Dusty. 1700m is the query but with front end control, takes running down.

9 Heat Of The Night (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but she does look a filly with talent. She ran over 1450m at Kilmore where she got off speed and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was good in defeat. Dangerous if she can get a drag into the race.

1 Prismatic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has class on his side and class will carry him a long way. He ran in the MJ Bourke at Pakenham over the Hurdles when far from disgraced in defeat behind The Cunning Fox. Back over the bigger jumps should be fine and this isn’t a deep race.

2 Nelson (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was down to run in the Brierly but was scratched in preference for this softer option. He resumes, having not raced since March last year when falling at this track/distance. Been well schooled for his return and spanked them in a recent trial here so watch betting.

5 Dr Dependable (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has run well at Warrnambool previously and is a sneaky first four prospect at a price. He ran over the two miles at Pakenham last time where he just found them a bit sharp when down the track behind Duke Of Bedford. First four contender with clean jumping.

3 Kirwans Bridge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning but not a whole lot of confidence. He ran over the mile at Caulfield Heath last start where he got a fair way off the speed but I liked the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Show Of Gold. Racing like a rise in trip will suit and strikes a winnable maiden.

2 Devoted Poet (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks like he has been set for the race and third up from a spell, he should just about be at peak fitness. He ran on Terang Cup Day where he looked hard to beat on paper but was quite keen in the run and couldn’t quite finish the job. Perhaps a rise to 1700m and hard fit helps the cause.

11 Meika Tate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout first four contender at odds. She ran in a 2000m maiden at Warracknabeal last start where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, her finale was sound enough. Back to 1700m should be fine…I’ve seen worse $151+ shots.

2 Affluential (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying and is the one to beat for mine. He won at Flemington on Anzac Day, getting better as the race went on, knuckling down late to nab Fernao on the peg. Great win in the Novice Hurdle last year and looks right on track to win the big one here.

1 Stern Idol (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is jumping over Hurdles vs Steeples as it stands right now and does come here off a second in the MJ Bourke at Pakenham to The Cunning Fox when attempting to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick from the front but had no answers late. Hard fit, he has class and it will carry him a long way.

6 Right Now (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran third to The Cunning Fox in the MJ Bourke. He got into a decent spot off the speed and he tried hard but he couldn’t quite see it through and just lacked the class. He was first up there so he has good upside/improvement to come.

3 Whistlefield (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up for Tom Dabernig and is a key threat. She is first up, having not raced since Dec 18 at Caulfield Heath where she attempted to lead throughout but felt the pinch late behind Rock Melody. She has jumped out well for the return and has a good racing style.

1 Call To Glory (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Tom Dabernig since racing at Sandown on March 26. He did early work to hold a forward spot and just felt the pinch late. Home track advantage, in well after the claim, he appeals.

4 I Miss Margie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Busuttin/Young trained mare that resumes. She is first up, having not raced since Oct 25 over 955m at The Valley when racing like a tired horse behind Port Albert. She can sprint well fresh, is suited at the short course and has jumped out well.

7 Marble Nine (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the one for me. He looked cast for a while but his recent efforts have been quite strong, the latest performance coming over 1300m at Bendigo when a strong on speed winner. He’ll land near the front again, hard fit, in form, happy to be in his corner.

3 Hedged (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door. He was wide no cover in the Hareeba at Mornington but he stayed on and was game in defeat behind The Instructor. Better run in transit this time around, he’s one of the leading contenders.

5 Dubai Poet (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Michael Hickmott trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since a strong win in the Christmas Handicap at Morphettville on Dec 28, his only run for the campaign. Given a good break and he is very reliable fresh so watch betting.

4 Midnight Glow (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned well for John Salanitri and commands respect. Resumed with a bang at Sale before going to Terang Cup Day when near the speed snd fought on really well in defeat. Should land in a great spot here and take beating.

14 Barbie’sdreamworld (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for Peter Chow. She was thrown in the deep end last start in the Auraria when outclassed on paper and ran accordingly when down the track. Much better suited at this level, home track and gets B Shinn.

13 Muppet (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but has a good finish on her. She ran over 2000m at Ballarat last start when back near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up good ground. Back in trip I like and she can certainly win.

I think 1 Boltsaver (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good thing to close out the meeting. He reseumed at Echuca on Good Friday where he was heavily backed and I thought didn’t get the best of steers by Allen, but that said, I reckon condition gave out late, so fitter and up in trip, he will be extremely hard to hold out.

10 Persian Spirit (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting towards last chance territory. He is a talented horse, but he has been beaten in both runs back where the punters have liked him, the latest at Terang when second to Luna Cat. Third up, hard fit, D Day for him.

5 Dark Harmony (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1400m for Aaron Purcell after attempting to lead throughout in the Warracknabeal Cup and he gave a strong kick from the front but had no answers late for Angry Skies. Front end control, he’ll run well.
